You (Soll, Shiri) suck if that's true. In this county, at least, we've changed to "the Six-Term Year". Basically means our holidays got shifted around - a week and a half for the October half-term, for example, and two and a half weeks at easter, but we break up for Christmas on, like, December the 22nd.
And we only get 5 and a half weeks for the summer (this is the second).

We sort of half-switched to it over in Lincolnshire. Because people got upset over Easter.
EDIT: Come to think of it, only like 2 counties changed in the end, plus us. I don't think anywhere else even changed at all.
Xinael2005-08-05 09:40:20
That's because the real idea was really really crap. It Key Stages 1-3 doing all the science subjects in one term, all the arts subjects in another term... it was bad.
So instead they brought it in without the lesson changes and we ended up with our holidays screwed up. Deep joy.
(Gloucestershire, btw)

Who the hell came up with the idea of all the key stages doing the same subjects all at once? That's exactly what you want NOT to happen.
What I want to know is who was in charge of the 3 counties getting screwed up, but the others...not getting screwed up. I didn't follow that part.

The county council was. There've been loads of things about school reform in this county recently (including shutting grammar schools for some bizarre reason, but I won't start on that). One of them was this crappy idea - they did meetings with teachers and then meetings with the public, a survey I think, and then it happened. Hooray.
Shiri2005-08-05 09:49:02
Yeah, the grammar schools thing was odd to say the least. I think they were complaining about elitism (which seems to me to be just a negative word to describe what essentially is the whole point of them). Didn't go through and I don't think it will unless I got something wrong, though.
Xinael2005-08-05 09:56:28
No, thank god. They did manage to get grammar schools to reduce Sixth Forms by 10% though (so my school, with a sixth form of 120, took in 140 the year before that came into effect )
Shiri2005-08-05 09:57:45
What exactly was the point of that? (And my sixth form was LARGER than the preceding year... In all my classes anyway.)
Xinael2005-08-05 10:03:07
I think they thought "Well, the grand project to merge the schools didn't work (they wanted to close my school and a girls' grammar school and combine them) because it was total crap. We need to look like we're doing SOMETHING towards the government's schools policy! Quick, cut entry to them instead!"

When you all go to work every day with the exception of the weekend, you will have reason to moan about going back to school after 6 weeks off.
I wish I was still at school...

Hmm let's see.... my term ended July 15th and lectures will start again on October 17th. Sounds like 11 weeks.
But hey, 'tis not like we have, you know, vaccation. *burns term papers and examns and practical training requirement lists*

I go back the 29th of the month. Too soon. College is nice like that though. I got off a lot of May. And Christmas break is about a month or so, but I'll probably try to kill that with minimester again.

i go back late August i think. school registration is in a few days. I have an orthodontist appointment so my dad has to register for me. Makes me nervous because he'll either forget to sign me up for Driver's Ed, or decide he doesn't think i should drive until i'm 18.

I got kicked out of Driver's Ed when I was a sophomore.. so ever since I have never tried to get in..
Unknown2005-08-14 02:36:52
Driver's ed is evil. It took 8 months to do the classroom portion and the behind-the-wheel part keeps getting delayed becaue the instructor's car breaks down. Granted, I did do the at-home version of the classroo and they just fixed all of the problems as soon as I was done with it. But it's still stupid.
Vix2005-08-14 02:48:48
Eh? I took Driver's Ed this summer and it only lasted a week since it was a summer course.
We just sat in the classroom for a week and took one outing in the car. Yay for insurance discounts!

School starts tomorrow for me. Good thing I just finished my summer homework today! I'm such a procrastinator.
I'm scared of my new teachers though. The upperclassmen say that all of the teachers are horrible. Last year the English teacher assigned an essay on the first day of school.

I remember school.
*points and laughs*
However, my little sister (and little brother, for that matter) still goes to school. Let's see... She has two weeks at easter, two weeks in july, two weeks in september and summer holidays from, um, third week of december till the end of january or start of feb. She doesn't like it, but I love it
