Okay... Why does the taint matter to those who dont believe they are tainted. The whole infesting thing has nothing to do with a forest being 'weak' or 'natural' or 'pure'.
Ialie2005-08-04 13:34:59
THey are just censor.gif trees. Doesn't matter whose goes where.

Agreed. No point in tearing them down, unless they show obvious signs of disease.

However, DON'T ARGUE THIS ON THE FORUMS, DAMNIT. TAKE THIS IC. NOW. QUICKLY. RUN.
Gregori2005-08-04 13:44:31
psh I took it IC.. and I removed all the Blacktalon Trees I found and planted lovely Hartstone Trees. As I said here and there. I don't view their trees as sick or infested. I view them as a symbol of Glomdoring. I don't want to look at a tree and the first thing I think is "Some Glomdoring fool was here." I want to look at a tree and think "Hartstone still looks after this region."
Ialie2005-08-04 13:48:02
If we have blackthorn trees and things in seren How are they symbols of glomdoring? They just appear as saplings. The fact that they have been summoned by Glomdoring isn't really apparent only the fact that they appear as an object instead of seeing it in the desc. Which is an OOC mechanic

If you all payed attention IC, you'ld realize it's been answered, in it's entirety.

I have.

Saplings grown by Blacktalon or Harstone will grow the same in either forest or infested forest environment. For all intents and purposes, druids battling for demesnes can ignore saplings (unlike mages and illusory terrain). It is conceivable that the two communes may even decide to want more of a variety of trees in their forests or in Faethorn and come to some agreement to cross-populate what they respectively grow. That is, of course, up to the druids to roleplay--it's perfectly fine to hate what the other grows.

Aye. Kalo only dislikes Hemlock, for it's poisonous properties. Nothing more, nothing less.

It's also one of a few game mechanics that makes them allying all the more possible.

*nod* I'd definitely love to see the Serenwilde at least acknowledge Glomdoring as something beyond TAINTED, MUST SLAY!!!. We don't have to be friends with them, but lumping them in with Magnagora in every way is giving up a lot of room to do other neat things with.

As stands, it will remain that way, until they lay off the reliance. They're getting better, at least.
Unknown2005-08-04 17:38:45
I really think we should get past the "ours is better" attitude and not chop down those trees. It's quite obvious that it's in both sides' interest to have healthy mature trees in Faethorn asap. And for all that matters, the trees are really the same, except Serenwilde's are nice and shiny and Glomdorings are somewhat wicked, but taint really doesn't play a part in the children of an untainted Great Spirit of nature.

Who said it's because they're wicked, or "ours is better"? Kalodan doesn't LIKE Hemlock. PERIOD. That's all. If I don't like Grapefruit trees, I'm yanking it out of my yard, and replacing it with a seventh tangerine tree. Simple.
Gregori2005-08-04 18:33:03
I said ours are better. I still say ours are better. So if you don't agree with me that ours are better, guess what. I dun care! It is my RP and my choice. tongue.gif

The only concern I will be addressing is a law in the Leaves stating that chopping down trees in Faethorn, and trees in Serenwilde, except for areas marked for timber cutting by Hartstone, is bad bad bad.
Estarra2005-08-04 18:41:56
I should probably point out that the older and larger a tree becomes, the more difficult it will be to chop down. Thus, if really old mature trees are all over Faethorn (for example), mages will have an extremely difficult time trying to put a demesne up. Of course, if Blacktalon and Hartstone keep chopping down each other's respective trees in Faethorn, then they'll never grow to such heights. (On the other hand, it would make Faethorn an attractive target for zealous lumberjacks.)
Olan2005-08-04 18:48:56
Yeah, that's funny...give the druids a mechanic so that Faethorn is hard to meld for mages...and they'll be so busy in their pissing contest about whose trees are 'better' that it won't matter.

Gregori: How is it that you claim your viewpoint is OOC (from your first post) and yet clearly biased by your IC beliefs (Harstone tree=good, Blacktalon=bad) and then justify that saying its your RP? You RP your OOC beliefs now?

YoLF: Out of curiosity, do you refuse to envenom weapons because they are also from 'poisonous' creatures? Do you have any idea how many creatures and plants in real, normal, natural nature are poisonous?
Richter2005-08-04 18:56:52
At the risk of defending him, it could be that he thinks poison tree = bad, because serenwilde <3's trees.
Olan2005-08-04 19:00:12
So there are NO poisonous trees in Serenwilde? Even though they are not an uncommon part of nature?

Serenwilde doesn't care for the animals?

Kalo has the mentality of, tops, a six year old. He talks like one, reacts like one, and behaves like one. You should have seen what he did when he was power blocked because of a miscommunication, and a message that disappeared (possibly deleted on accident).

Kalo represents a single aspect of Nature - if there were Sundancers, he'd be one. He likes life and flourishment, he enjoys light-toned trees with blossoms and vivid colouring.

He'll never, ever be a warrior. Your decision on plants are fine. He doesn't like Hemlock - it's poisonous, and could be used against him or a friend. Rowans, Blackthorns, he doesn't mind. One of my favourite trees are Rowans and I enjoy hemlock. Infact, I wear a pendant all the time, carved from coconut on a hemlock necklace.
