Hajamin, please do not encourage the evil Channel Emotes.

If we can get seasons more visible in the game, it would be of help perhaps... For example, if you are in a forest, you would notice the leaves falling down during fall, or the sun burn your back during summer...

It's only a cheap substitute, a workaround. And it looks bad (the second one).
Emotional speech on channels just like it is possible with says is indeed a very nice idea.

Excuse Me? Audible emotes have, and always will be, allowed on channels. You hear channels, therefore you can hear someone laugh. You cannot hear them smile.

It is also something players can do, without special coding, which gives us time to work on fixing bugs and doing larger(more important?) projects. Anyone that codes can tell you how much of a pain parsers can be to write, in the same amount of time we could code... say a new skill.

Like the new druid skill. Perhaps you and Lisaera can work together. You + Lisaera's asian sweatshop = Happy Kalo.

I would like to see more gifts too.. I think that would be an awesome idea. It could just be a little add-on to artisan too. biggrin.gif

We need a performance skillset too.. and maybe more emotes. I'd like more Npcs in the guildhalls too.

Bah, I'm certainly not saying "you should do that now". You have a heap of a much, much more important things to do so you do those. But it doesn't mean you need to strike it down when it's a good idea. Priority is another issue.

And, it's already there and working for says, so would it really be that time consuming to incorporate it for channels?

Heh... It would take longer to find that section of says than to start from scratch.

So far, for non-combat-oriented items, I've made a carpenter's hammer. Woo.

They let you do that? My woodsman's axe got rejected for the same reasons, even though there is a skill to use a woodsman's axe specifically already. sad.gif
Unknown2005-08-05 02:57:09
Err.. maybe you should start indexing the code or something. Don't strain your eyes too badly! quickexit.gif

On a serious note, you don't have a way to painlessly sift through things? I haven't bothered to look up all sorts of coding language stuff since I'll be bombarded with it in a semester, but I figure with so much code that already exists it'd probably be hell. wacko.gif
Hajamin2005-08-05 03:01:17
More like 10 year old Vortex code is ugly and hard to go through, not to mention some very bad coding habits they had back then. doh.gif

Some of the realism problems I'd like to be looked into are- meditating while proned, namely you can't do it! Also, if you're already sitting and try to sit again, it says you have to raise yourself up from the floor, or being unable to moonburst with one crippled arm or leg(s).

The problem... with audible emotes such as *chuckle* and *laugh* is that when you use the aetherwaves it will say;

(Serenwilde): Ialie says, "Heheh Gregori is funny!!! *laugh*."

You see the word (says) indicates that the following text will be something verbal that someone would actually say. So even if you put the little asterisks beside it, it is something that is said.

Even if it is okay or acceptable to do it still is kind of tacky.

Just my thoughts anyway.
Xinael2005-08-05 09:14:01
All I can say is that if you have a problem with something that tiny and nitpicky AFTER Hajamin's said it would be annoying and time-consuming to code, you have some serious suspension of disbelief issues.

Or.... that I have my own opinion about a subject matter. Which as I understand is perfectly okay.

I never suggested he code something to make it less tacky. I am just pointing out why I think it is tacky and pretty much why I don't use sound emotes over the aetherwaves.
Xinael2005-08-05 09:48:22
Yes, you're perfectly entitled to your opinion. I'm just saying that I'm of the opinion that your opinion is too nitpicky. This is called debate, or argument - I attempt to show you the flaws in your opinion, you attempt to show me the flaws in mine.

And on that note, how is Hajamin saying "Channel emotes are fine" and then you saying "This is why channel emotes don't work at the moment" not an implicit request for them to be fixed?

Nope

Xinael, I think she was more responding to the bit where he said the channel always have been and always will be acceptable. She was explaining why she thought the were unaccaptable, or at least in poor taste to use.

That being said, we're completely derailed now.

I like the idea that several people have suggested thus far of having completely combat worthless items: candles, balls, teddy bears. It makes it far more immersive to actually posses an item, then to say

"I command the power of the Spirits of Nature. I follow the teachings of crow. I can weaving a cloak from a single feather and summon a giant bird to follow me. Yet... um, we're going to have to play pretend with the candles in our bloody ritual because we don't have any. Oh, and that carving knife we're using on the victim is really my big ass bastard sword."

The people in my head say things like this. But seriously, there doesn't even really need the extra yard of having them emote their own things (although it would be especially lovely). Just the ability to have an item that you can put in a room or hold in your hand makes the game feel less like "let's play pretend" with anything besides PvP combat.

The other thing that would really help is Gwylifar's scepter of RP illusion. Having something that would allow non-cities to perform a ritual would just be nice.

For the people that don't know what I'm talking about, the basic premise was to have an item held by random people in positions of authority that could do illusions if the wielder was a full health/mana and consume balance for 2 seconds. The actual restrictions are abitrary; the goal was to make it impossible to use in combat, but allow non-mages to have a dynamic ritual.

Did anyone try to swan dive in the ocean? If that could be fixed, it would help.
