How do you prevent the telepath skill dominate? I cant seem to figure it out.
Gwylifar2005-08-05 19:11:48
All the mind-control skills have no defense other than being somewhere else. Various solutions to this have been proposed but not implemented.
Thorgal2005-08-05 19:25:26
Yeah, you just have to hope they dominate while you're off balance/equilibrium, or don't force stuff that don't require either.
Unknown2005-08-05 23:26:52
so they can pretty much rob me blind and the only defence is to run?
Gwylifar2005-08-05 23:27:48
And you can trigger removing items to wear them, hide your gold somewhere other than your main pack, keep Selfishness up, etc. but that only protects against some theft, not against all the other uses of this kind of ability.
Sylphas2005-08-05 23:28:50
Selfishness, triggers, or just not being AFK. It takes a good amount of skill to steal from anyone with a clue.

Using the occasion... I also have a question.

When I use dominate (Nihilist) on someone, it gives the message when it's successfull (You sense that your archdemon has control of Target.).

When testing the skill on someone, it worked just fine so I triggered my order to that message. But when I tried to use it in fight, it never went through. Demon was performing the attack, but there was no message, which I understand means that it didn't work.

Do they need to be on balance for it to work?
Am I missing something?
Shiri2005-08-06 01:41:37
Depends what you tried to order. If you tried to order something like evoke pentagram, then they have to be on equilibrium same as if they did the move themself.

Not sure what you mean by "no message" though. No WHAT message? YOU have to be on equilibrium to order as well, if that's what you're not sure of.
Elryn2005-08-06 01:45:05
I believe the mind control skills work like routing your command through your target as if they had entered it. So you can only command them to do things they themselves could do.

THEY will get any message about them being off-balance, or unable to do something, rather than the forcer.

That is not what I mean.
QUOTE
A hideous archdemon forms a ball of darkness in his palm, then hurls it at
Kharvik, striking him full in the chest. Shadowy tendrils burst forth and
slither over his skin.

That is the message which I get when my demon attacks with dominate (or something else from that pact).

When I was just testing it on someone, whenever it attacked with dominate, I received additional message.

You sense that your archdemon has control of Kharvik.

So I triggered it to give an order.

Reading Shiri's response I already know that's a mistake if I need to be on eq to give an order, however it should still give the message, right?
Shiri2005-08-06 02:03:38
The former message applies to all Luciphage powers, and probably won't give the message twice until you lose control, if that's what's confusing you.

But yes, you should get the message. Also, don't trigger it at all. In my experience it's best to combo demon control attacks into your active attacks. Obviously the exact combination won't work for you, but if I have someone's insomnia stripped I have a combo that makes them sleep with the pooka, then follows up with a sleep enchantment. That sort of thing.
Unknown2005-08-06 02:14:02
Yeah, so I was not getting that message (control one) in a fight, even though I had only invested dominate. It was only coming up when I was testing it earlier, that's why I thought it only works when the target is on balance.

I think the fact it won't give the message again until I order something (what are other options of it losing control?) explains it. It might've come up the first time, order haven't went through because I was off eq, and I could've missed it.
Shiri2005-08-06 02:20:12
Probably. Pooka won't either. It just stays in control until you lose it.
