Broadswords on a Shadowlord Faeling?

Currently my 1337 Shadowlord Faeling is using dual masterwork rapiers, and maybe Terenas just sucks at forging, but they don't seem to be doing a lot. When I asked people's opinions they all said rapiers were the best way to go for a Faeling, but...

Currently it takes me roughly two and a half seconds to regain one arm's balance. I'm assuming this is just about as fast as you can get, and so I'm wondering if a pair of broadswords would have too crippling and effect on my balance. If I'm already at the max with rapiers, wouldn't two broadswords with decent speed be able to hit just slightly slower and for way more damage?

My Shadowlord alt was using Broadswords with around 184damage and I have 3sec recovery. I did good wounding and really good damage for a non-artie user

Do you honestly expected to get great weapons on the first tries? I've forged my rapiers over 200 times to get only around 260 speed weapons. Of course your rapiers won't be doing a lot, they're not meant for damage. doh.gif

Oh, I know, Terenas. The thing is, even if they were the most badass rapiers every I think, because of Faeling's natural speed, a pair of good broadswords would be better. Don't worry, if I ever get the gold I'll let you make them. wink.gif

as far as I know the balance speed cap is at two seconds. So two and a half is pretty close

My experience with faelings or aslarans with broadswords is that they are sacrificing speed and wounds for more damage, but with their low strength, the extra damage is not significant. So it is really a choice between being very fast // lots of wounds // negligible damage, and good speed // moderate wounds // moderate damage.

Another thing to consider is whether you will be fighting in duels or actual conflict. The difference being in duels, rapier is a better choice because they can rack up the wounds quickly and rend more than makes up for the low damage, but it takes time and your opponent is not running away. In actual combat, however, you would want to finish your opponent as fast as possible, to stop them from running or calling for help, so higher damage is prefereable.

Keep in mind though Rapiers design have recently been changed so they do not get high precision as well as high speed. So new rapiers that pinleg in 4 lunges may no longer be possible. smile.gif

I've had a dagger (made by Richter) that has crotamine on it, another dagger with botamide, and another with paralysis (can't remember the name) on it. Trills with sharp things should be feared.

What is your focus now, to become a speed knight or a tank knight?

Wrong, you can.

Visaeris did.
Tenebrae2005-08-07 19:20:43
Personally, get 4 blades, but start now with two longswords, later 2 rapiers... for faelings, longswords is a good all along weapon.. for the stronger races, perhaps broadswords.

I killed Visaeris as an unspecialized Merian with rapiers with damage. I mean, Merian Serenguard here. tongue.gif

The difference between weapons are the range of stats that you can have. Also each stat has an effect on your performance. Depending on how you play(the style you're most comfortable with) these stats should be more accustomed to you. That being said broadswords do have the most damage potential and rapiers have the most speed potential. Though this potential means nothing in relation to your style of play if you do not know how much such affects you.

If you want to have a superior damage weapon go broadsword. If you want to have a superior speed weapon go rapier. But what I'm saying is I can manage to get the same effect with any type of weapon because of how it works. ie I can still be a speed blademaster (and be only a little bit slower if not just as fast incomparison to someone with high speed rapiers) with broadswords, scimitars and longswords.

Also there is such a thing as excess, and just shy when it comes to weapons. Sometimes 40 points will mean nothing, sometimes 1 point will mean a world of difference.

Weapons arent about going overboard on one stat, its more about balancing the 3 stats to compliment how you want to use them.

Was that before or after he got Thorgal's system? He stopped sucking so much after that.

How the heck did Visaeris dominate everyone early on?
Yrael2005-08-08 05:07:18
Noone could cure.
Gwylifar2005-08-08 14:32:39
Many of us didn't even have the cures and couldn't get them, as there weren't herbalists and alchemists trained up enough and people hadn't found the ingredients yet. For instance, back in the first couple of weeks, Moondancers were the best Seren bashers by far, because most everyone else was stopped short by something as simple as a gila's dulak, but 'dancers could heal themselves.
