Both Serenwilde and Glomdoring members spend a lot of time defending the Ethereal plane, or watching for enemies to come in. It's really boring. And I do mean, REALLY boring. I feel bad for Kalo and Ashteru and any Glomdorians who sit at the Twilight Trees 24/7 waiting for Narsrim to attack or for us all to leave. Can we please have something to do up there while we keep watch? Either some bashable denizens that aren't loyal to Moon/Night/Faethorn (now that NEITHER commune has a reason to kill Faethorn-loyal denizens, and many reasons not to, both RP and mechanics-wise), or a more substantial quest somewhere on the Ethereal, or some fun game (perhaps a chessboard, perhaps something more interesting), or maybe make influencing more fun/rewarding *shrugs*
And to say again, just a simple chessboard would make some of us very happy -grins-
When guards kept watch together in olden times, they would bring dice or such to keep themselves from falling asleep from boredom.

Pleease, a chessboard. *I'LL* pay for it. It's just annoying to run to prime, start a game, then go back up to the Ethereal.
Besides, Ashteru's getting tired of losing.

I hear you can continue to play after you left the board. But I personally wouldn't do so, as that seems like a bug to me.

When you touch the magical chessboard, a small replica of it appears, and you can take it with you. It's always been that way. Even in Achaea. It's still annoying to have to start games on Prime though =\\
Shamarah2005-08-10 16:05:03
The other games had dice artifacts... don't know where they are here.
But I agree that a chessboard or something would be good for you people. Or some other minigame?

As Shorlen said, it is not a bug. We should probably stack chess games.

Just to clarify:
You touch the chessboard, and suddenly a replica of it, complete with pieces,
springs into existence and moves to hover between you and Kalodan.
You have begun a new game of chess with Kalodan, and are using the dark pieces.
Doesn't say the replica is immobile
Unknown2005-08-10 16:53:54
Indeed, and they can be stacked. Shorlen and Kalo are now engaged in two rounds of Chess.
Gwylifar2005-08-10 17:33:34
Ah, didn't notice that the couple of times I played.
Richter2005-08-10 18:26:05
Yeah, there's a command to see saved chess games I think.
If you want a chessboard, ask your patron if you can buy a manse chessboard and stick it there, they might be nice about it. *shrug*

Even if all we get is one in Maeve's tree or something - or maybe one in Lisaera's temple? *hope*

Honestly, chess is fun and all, but it gets boring and can be played IRL. I was really hoping for something more interesting and more Lusternian. If a divine ever made an awesome little minigame that would keep small groups of people entertained while they waited or kept watch, I'd just be so happy....

*mutter* You only won two games out of three!
Besides..there's no need to feel too bad about me. I usually read the forums/surf a bit/read/look tv while I sit there, but sometimes I start to randomly talk with the Gloms that sit at twilight trees...
Okay, PLEASE give me something to bash!

Now, I understand that 'forced' boredom in a game is no fun for anyone.
But why is this situation suddenly unique enough to request chess boards and stuff? What about people that have guarded Ladantine, or the Ebonglom, or any number of other things for hours on end, sometimes the entire length of their stay in the game for a day or more at a time? There are people who even guard places they don't HAVE to, even if they claim it is their RP people are always quick to call it BS. Ur'Guard isn't asking for a chessboard in the Catacombs.
Although there are times where I think people are mechanically forced into excessive boredom, there are also times you should just suck it up and call it part of the game. I don't know which situation this is, since I'm not involved. But neither situation warrants chessboards.

Shooting Fae in the Barrel for Glomdoring members, and maybe Hearts with a couple of the Faeknights?

Gasp, the difference is, we're asking as to the possibility of BUYING one for our entertainment. There's a difference between guarding Ladantine once every couple RL week for a few hours, and protecting Faethorn 24/7 for an indeffinate, possibly a time frame limited solely by the closure of Lusternia, period.
Tenebrae2005-08-10 19:01:07
Can we have then something that eats weevils? in the list of what eats what, there must be a creature that eats weevils... in rp, that is how it survives... and this is ethereal, so get a unicorn perhaps, or a goblin....

o_O Please read my post before commenting on it in the future, okay? I was asking for something for ALL people who sit around bored guarding some place. NOT just us. The specific situation that I am interested in involves me and my IC friends, since, well, I'm not you. However, the post was intended as a general call for something to do besides sit around running observation scripts while looking for another game to play, or anime to watch, or something to do that's not so farking boring as sitting around is.

So if the artifact dice were for sale, people would actually buy them and use them here?

Meh, I have no money for such. And dice is another game I could just play RL I was thinking something more uniquely Lusternian and new.
