Every game needs a bumbling, megalomaniacal villain who always manages to screw up his overly grand schemes.

I suggest this hypothesis is not only unproven but in fact disproven.

Oh random question... Are you able to have an arena event specific to your arena and your arena only?

Hrm, no one has ever done that yet. Would be interesting though, if we came up with a game and paid for it, something like... sack the shadowdancer, or bop the blacktalon.

It's possible, I'm not sure we'd ever do it due to the amount of coding it requires to create one.
It took me quite a while to do Hamsterhunt and Slippers and those were just conversions, they still retain most of the core code.

Not even fo cookies..
Hmmm what if it had to be paid for in credits?

Guido! I demand a list of your failed plots immediately.
Seriously. I'm interested in seeing what they all are and how many

Speaking of arenas, if anyone has an idea for a unique (i.e., not seen in any other game) ideas for a new arena game, feel free to post on comments in-game or email me directly.

Hate to ask, but how about arena events (original or from other IRE games) that are -not- games? Like those deathball things from Imperian. I just think the amount of options we have for actual fighting things are kinda low.

Here's an arena game that doesn't seem very different from a normal FFA, but in terms of how it plays, it's really very different. Plus it wouldn't be that hard to code. I call it the Circle Hunt.
People join just like in a FFA and when the game starts, the list of participants is shuffled randomly into order. Each person is told their target is the next person on the list, forming a circle. So for instance, if Gwylifar, Nejii, Shamarah, Nyla, and Richter were in the game, we might shuffle and get this order:
Gwylifar -> Nyla -> Nejii -> Richter -> Shamarah -> Gwylifar
Whoever your current target is, that's the only person you can attack, in any way, including area attacks. Any violation of this and you're disqualified and kicked out of the game.
If you kill your target (or if she is removed from the game for any reason), her target becomes your new target. Eventually the game boils down to two people fighting it out, just like a normal FFA, but before that point, the tactics are interestingly different in that you are attacking against a different person than you're defending against, and so is your target. Also, there's less value in trying to wait out the fight rather than engaging in it -- if you don't kill your target, no one else will.

Thats an event in Imperian.

Called Manhunt in fact...
Anyways, Guido, you're more of a Pinky and the Brain type villain... Mum-ra was kickass and was only foiled because the Eye of Thundara and such really rocked everyone's socks too.

I suppose I am.
Visaeris was Brain, I was Pinky.
"Narf! Hey Visaeris, what are we going to do tonight?"
"The same thing we do every night, Guido. TRY TO RAISE CROW!"

Oh, is it? Hmmm, interesting. Too bad they got it first.

I think a fun arena game would be 'Capture the Shadows'.
Everyone who enters is given a Shadowcatcher net, like those used to collect Crow shadows in Glomdoring. They then have to run around the arena and capture as many shadow creatures as they can, delivering them to a denizen on top of the mountain to earn points. You can kill other players as well, causing half their held shadows to drop to the ground and disperse and making them respawn in a random room.

A fun game would be some sort of simulated raid-ish game. Players split into two teams and take turns trying to accomplish and defend an objective... say, to kill x number of mobs, or deliver an object to a place, or hold a certain room for 1 minute. I'm sure you've all played things like that in various other games. It'd be interesting to have in a MUD.

That's still an arena game, do you guys deliberately nitpick just so you have something to complain about or what?
We're looking for ideas for arena events, is that better for you?

don't ask how I thought this up, I read the thread went to get a drink
and came back with the idea in my brain, maybe I was possessed.
basically everyone enters the arena and a demon possesses one of
the contestants, causing them to transform slightly, go nuts with
spewing up ectoplasm and acting like a nut case running from room to
room. The job of the other contestants is to exorcise and kill
the demon, when they catch the possessed they can exorcise the demon
which jumps out of the player, then they can attempt to smite the demon
(maybe have like 5 smites kill the demon) but the demon will then
try to jump into another player causing them to go insane and run about.
(I'm thinking have exorcise take equilibrium so you can't exorcise
and smite one after the other)
the game is won when the demon is banished.
there are three winners, the one who actually slays the demon.
the one who exorcised the most people.
and the one who managed to stay possessed the longest.
possibly the possessed person gains the ability to spew ectoplasm
at people. (or in the case of parasites, some sort of telekinetic
or telepathic attack)
(A deep sense of fear enters your soul, there all out to get you, you must get
away!)
I was thinking this can have two flavors, either give everyone a sphere
of the supernals (I don't know the supernals so one of the fighty ones)
which can be used to exercise and smite or instead of demons
and excorsism, have a mental parasite that those mages use to catch
(which I never saw so one of you guys go get infected so I can see)
and all the participants given a crystal to use for purging people and
zapping the parasite when it leaves the hosts body.
so what do you think?
