Huh. I thought pipes in other games didn't go off herb balance, so it balances out. Plus they had purge blood (or at least did on Imperian, not sure about Achaea) which made it -easier- to cure than here...right?
And yes, all guardian combat is sleep/aeon, I'll agree with that.

I like it here, the challenges, quests, and people, ect. Though sometimes I admit I go back to Achaea to just log on and chit chat, more of a social aspect chat room there :-)
not saying it's a good thing but think of games like achaea that have 230+ people on at any given time. How many of those people are actually doing something? Not many, I might be the only one but I don't have much, just downtime, in Lusternia, like I do in Achaea, I don't just sit there and do nothing.

yeh pipes don't go off herb balance, but there aren't that many herb cures on that note, and being able to eat apply sip is a pretty easy way to cure. you can't stack all that much up.

Who put admins? O_o
Exarius2005-08-15 00:34:33
Everyone's leaving?
Look, the player base on any MUD is going to fluctuate over time, and no one plays on any MUD forever. Me, I've been playing MUDs off and on for about ten years, and I'm really not sure that I've ever stayed on a single MUD for an entire year.
My most popular reason for leaving? Admins who broke their bargains. I'm not big on instant gratification, so none of the usual tantrum subjects phase me. But I expect people to live up to their word.
So far, Estarra's played as straight with me as any MUD admin I've ever known (which is damning with faint praise, but there you go), so I'm rather hopeful this is a place I can truly settle into.
But most players do not stay on most MUDs for years at a time. Life happens. They move on. Often for reasons that have nothing to do with the MUDs themselves. If a lot of your friends are drifting away from Lusternia, well... that's always a bit sad, but it's the nature of the beast.

I can't say what is making other people leave, but I can try and give my thoughts on why I feel less attracted to Lusternia as a whole.
For one, I feel there is a whole lot of conflict and simply not enough people to support it. It's always the same small bunch in the mix of things, and for me it gets very boring very quickly.
I also feel that Lusternia isn't particularly newbie friendly, so with such a small player base and a very slow influx of new players, every person who quits playing has a reasonably big impact.
Gorokan.

Lusternia's playerbase after a year of existance is about twice as big as Achaea's playerbase after a year of existance, don't think we're doing too bad.

I'm not sure if that's really a fair way to judge it though. We had a lot more advertising than Achaea probably did because we've got the rest of the IRE playerbase to draw on, amongst other reasons.

I'm pretty confident in saying that more than two thirds of Lusternia's playerbase heard of Lusternia from an already existing IRE game.
Thorgal2005-08-17 13:25:59
I guess.
Anumi2005-08-17 15:35:57
Heh. Some of us just 1) became obsessed with World of Warcraft 2) were forced into less MUD-friendly jobs and 3) had our DSL suddenly and inexplicably degrade to the point where the connection would reset every 5 minutes, making any online gaming impossible.
In that order.
And it sucks. But I'll be back

I left because I broke my own number one rule: Hate the Character not the Player. When it comes to a point in the game where you actually want to ruin a Player's gaming experience it's time to take a break. I can not think of a single valid reason to want to bring misery directly to a player instead of a character. Some people don't agree with that point of view. They see the game as a player versus player struggle instead of character versus character. That's not my bag so to say. When I started thinking that way I knew it was time to go on a long walk.
Olan2005-08-20 19:41:49
I agree with Anumi. World of Warcraft.
At least, that's what is preventing me from even considering coming back. I'm actually having fun playing a game, which I think was supposed to be the whole point of games.

I hate everyone with WoW, if only I weren't poor.
I can't speak for other people, but I think the main reason anyone leaves is because of something outside of the game. For example, I went away to the beach in early June. I spent an entire week with my friends, without Lusternia, which is something I hadn't done in a while. When I got home, it was hard for me to get back into the swing of things, and it got to the point where I knew I wasn't logging in ever, or would only log in for a couple of minutes and just idle and timeout, so I was going to quit. Unfortunately I got so bored, seeing that I moved to a new state and have no friends here, that I came back and started playing.
I don't think it's usually something to do with the game itself. I think it's just that people find...well...better things to do, and sort of lose their desire to play.

Mmm, on the WoW I hate anyone who likes it, i think it's totally ruined any story that Warcraft could have had, but alas Blizzard is more concerned about money the that and this isn't the place to debate that either.
The main reason i think people leave in the first place or the most exagerated one is people are just too pissed with all the fighting that's going on. IMO there is way to much conflict and Lusternia's really just distilled down to warmongers and bloodlusted people, no one really wants to stop fighting, and if one side does, the other just uses it to their advantage and crushes them.
If you really think about that, there's lots of things better to do then sit infront of a computer slaving away at a reality that doesn't exist, but yeah, that's just my opinion. THe game itself i think we just need a grace period or some celebration, like a Festival of Compassion for Isune.

Exactly the same has happened to me twice now. First it was exams that made me stop, then I've spent the last couple of weeks constantly out of the house. Any spare time I do get gets poured into powerlevelling on WoW (which is surprising in that it seems really fast, but is actually really slow).
Kymir2005-08-21 10:45:20
Let me see... Guild Wars, getting back into retro gaming (go Monkey Island, Donkey Kong and original Zelda games!), and Gunbound, mostly.

I disagree. I don't think there is enough serious conflict. No open wars, no thing - just smacking each other once in a while. The reason why people get frustrated is because most fights require people to fight for the most retarded reasons. I have ever yet to see a TENSE moment in Lusternia. Whenever something happens, it always turns into a fight. There is never time to develop tension and hatred against your enemies like in the real world (Cold War). We just jump straight into mindless killing, and I think that's where the problem lies. No negotiation, no talks, no nothing. Once someone gets the smallest excuse to kill someone, they take immediate, reckless action. I'd personally like to see more tension building first, which escalates into something extremely dramatic and long lasting.
Right now, it's like, "Oh yeah, soandso is a good fighter. He can kick my ass in combat, he whores ability
Like, right now, I dislike Narsrim and Amaru because they can kick my ass. But I don't hate -Celestians- or -Serenwildens- as a whole, and I think many people also feel this way. With tension and more communication between commune/city that ESCALATES the situation and makes it more TENSE, I think the game itself become much more interesting, deep and enjoyable.

Murphy, wtf else am I going to do?
I have Healing... but I don't think -healing you- would get me very far. My only active abilities are aeon, web/vines, sleep, bedevil, lash, moonburst, toadcurse... go figure, I use them a lot.
