Too many trades?

Or... why don't we just allow a full second tradeskill?
Thorgal2005-08-17 16:35:08
And after that, you want a third, and a fourth, and a fifth.. tongue.gif

One tradeskill per player is fine, like I said, the less people that have a given tradeskill, the more profit they make.

I'd even say: there can't be too many tradeskills, regardless of playerbase.
Richter2005-08-17 16:36:05
I hear you can have them all in Imperian. sad.gif

And heck, I'll take two. It's better than nothing!

We have 0 active trans tailors in the Serenwilde...

*cough* Hello? Is this thing on? Testing?

Have you seen my Cat's Paw shop?

I know I'm relying solely on word of mouth and a listing in the Serenwilde Yellow Pages, not constantly waving a red flag around like Richter, but come on... I only own the two oldest private tailoring cartels in the basin.

Yes, I'm somewhat reclusive (can't stand channels). Yes, I gave up on Moonlace after Jairdan took it on himself to break a bargain with me, right after he took over as Trademaster. But I didn't leave the Serenwilde, and I've been a trans tailor for most of my twenty Lusternian years in the game.
Terenas2005-08-17 19:02:03
You also have your ct off the majority of the time, not to mention you never seem to respond on market for tailor request. So you can't expect people to know you're actually a tailor.

I would like to point out. Just for shameless plug sake that while Exarius has the oldest private tailoring cartel in the game. I have the oldest private cartel period.

I have the two oldest private forging cartels, the oldest private artisan cartel, and the oldest (any only) private bookbinding cartel.

But anyway... I do "wave a red flag". It's called advertising! And if more people would advertise, we wouldn't have people saying "looking for a ___" every five seconds on market!

Darn that Richter for advertising! Support the underdog! (when you find out who the non-advertising underdog is)

That's part of the problem, not just that we don't have enough people, or too many trades, it's that people don't know where to go for services!

Don't take me wrong! I love the idea of book binding. I am just a bit worried!

I am wondering if there are perhaps too many? Perhaps let us be able to choose a secondary tradeskill with some limitations?

I know full well the lure of multiple trade skills. I was already a tailor in Achaea when Jewelry was introduced, and I'm fairly sure I was the second player in the game to trans it.

Give me the chance to trans something else in Lusternia? I'd do it in a hearbeat, and buy my own cartel to go with it. Jeweler, artisan, cooking... Anything that involved making my own designs, I'd want to do it.

Would it be good for the game? No no no no no! A million billion zillion times no!

Economies happen when two or more people each have something another one wants. The more useful things that exist in the game that no one player can get hold of without the assistance of another player, the more realistic, healthy, and vibrant the in-game economy will become.

It's a game. It's supposed to come with challenges. If you want instant gratification, you can find all sorts of social MUDs to hang out on.

I told you I can't stand channels, and that includes market.

I don't expect everyone to know, even though it's as easy to find out as typing "cartels", but Shorlen knows. He named me specifically as not wanting to bother with Moonlace when he was running for trademaster.

Bau2005-08-17 21:13:51
And here I thought you disassociated from Moonlace cause of me!

Wasn't meaning to say waving the red flag was a fault. It's just what you do. Just as not advertising is what I do. It's a calculated decision, which generally gets the results I want. It's just when someone who knows better publicly claims I don't exist that I get irked.

And you may rest assured, I'm not any sort of underdog in this equation. I'm not trying to build wealth here, or role-play a merchant prince. Sure it could be interesting taking my industrial empire toe-to-toe against yours, but I've got other things in mind for mine, so why play dog-in-a-manger?

I did, but that's old news.

I gave it a chance again when you left. Haven't bothered to give it a chance since Jairdan left.
Richter2005-08-17 21:43:03
Oh, yeah, I knew you didn't mean it was bad or anything. I was just saying that I've gotten 10-20 members in the tailoring cartel within a year or two from that advertising. If you can be successful, and feel the need to spread by word-of-mouth (which is the best way, irl, not nessecarily ig) then feel free to do it!

By '0 trans tailors in Serenwilde' I meant active tailors (we have at least one inactive one) and ones that respond to CT requests for tailors (we have at least one who doesn't). I was referring to difficulties in finding a trader when asking on CT for one, as that is the primary way most tend to seek traders, apart from using the Market channel (even those who do usually ask on CT first).

I did not mean to offend you by not counting you, or say you don't exist. I just don't usually see you as part of the Wilde, IC or OOC, and it really seems to both me and Shorlen that that is how you perfer it. If we're wrong, you should probably say something.
Richter2005-08-17 22:26:41
Hrm, someone who does trade stuff and never is really interested in what happens in the commune?

Imagine that. *eyeshift*
Bau2005-08-19 09:32:58
Hey, it ain't that common. I do plenty for the commune when I'm around.

Hmph.
