Same four here (haven't learned yet, but will). Haven't picked a fifth.
Shiri2005-08-16 03:30:09
Dracnari, Elfen, Merian, Lucidian, Aslari. Looks like everyone picked those or mugwumpi and not the obscure ones. Sylphas, get a weird one as your last one.
Unknown2005-08-16 03:31:22
I'm gonna get wierd ones, but I need to actually find a list of languages to choose from...Mesolost.
Eyod2005-08-16 04:37:08
I'd prefer if the commone tongue was renamed Lusternian
or something oh well.

Up with Lucidian!

Being able to understand but not to speak it? Doesn't really make sense.
But hey, there's always Magic! wink.gif

My understanding of Spanish is much greater than my ability to speak it. Makes sense to me.

That's actually a good point, and I thought about that. I took spanish for 7 years, and I can actually understand it fairly well, I just cannot speak it for the life of me.

Funny, I have conversations with Koreans all the time. I speak English, and they speak Korean... both of us can understand the other language, but can't speak it as well.

I bet that's interesting to deal with. How do you know if they are cussing you or not?

Edit:
Korean tells you something that sounds like utter gibberish.
You tell Korean, "Are you cussing at me?!?"

Mugwumpi is my racial language.

Brain damage induced language problems? I think aphasia is the term you're looking for. There's been such experiments with humans too, not cutting up their brains obviously but blocking specific aspects of language by giving electrical stimulus to small spots of the brain. Scary indeed.

I think it'd be cool if there was a special language only Bookbinders could learn.
Unknown2005-08-17 20:11:46
Out of curiosity... can bookbinders forget languages too?
Sylphas2005-08-17 20:12:30
No, unless they forget the skill and relearn it.
Unknown2005-08-17 20:14:21
Ah. I was more thinking among the lines of being able to forget, like, common *grin* never mind then.
