I want to know if the Ethereal still has these healing mounds, and do some Orclach turn Orc because they OD on Soulless essence?
It was mentioned in the Empire Histories that Orclach who were present while Kethuru was still active in the Taint were degenerated into Orcs, actually.
That gets me thinking, though. If the Orclach were splintered from someone who took the Soulless-adeâ„¢ (i.e. was already Tainted, in a way), then maybe that's why the Taint affected them differently from everyone else.
As someone else said, I liked the way you worked all those nice new words in there, like Domoth, Immanidivinus, and Auron. I bet there'll be an event some time in the future involving the Excorporothingy.
Oh, nearly forgot: Whooo! New Histories!

I think the Well is one healing mound, or positioned on one. It stands to reason that there might be more Ethereal away from Faethorn, like Ethereal for Jojobo. It's probably a seperate "continent" of Ethereal, a little like the catacombs.
Arvont2008-01-25 09:13:31
It's the History of Lusty that got me hooked into reading different other RL histories - American Civil War, the Great Plague, World War I. Woohoo for another one!

I was struck by this particular part:
QUOTE
The ethereal realm was a reflection of the prime plane... Since we entered through a forested area, we were standing in the centre of an ethereal forest...
Doesn't that strongly imply that if they had entered somewhere else they would be in a part of the ethereal plane that wasn't forest? But though some of the currently known ethereal has room descriptions that aren't entirely foresty, it's all at least a little forest and all considered forest in terms of terrain. Seems like some of those other continents of ethereal might correspond to other terrains: mountains, hills, valleys, jungles, lakes, deserts...
Unknown2008-01-25 15:34:48
You got what I figured Gwylifar. The current Ethereal consists of two locales, three if you count Isune's Glade, the Forests are what the current two nexii link, catacombs are entered elsewhere. Gateweaving can only link to where another person is, the portals discussed in that history are likely a technique only gods can do.
I suspect there are other Ethereal realms linked to the basin and the world. We just don't know how to get there yet.
The thing I like about the histories is usually Estarra will tie some piece of a new history into a past or upcoming plot. The book of Keph came out either shortly before or shortly after the Undervault was released.

Personally, Estarra, I think you should just write the History of the Elder Wars until they're done. Forget unimportant things like monks, bards, DMP, bugs, and all that nonsense. The histories must be completed!

Yeah, thats why my initial question was asking.
@Phred: Gods can create portals to locations and not people. Viravain has done that for me a few times. I wonder if thats going to become an ascendant power now.

It could be that, as Orlachmar was rejuvenated with the essence of another soulless, when Kethuru touched the race that was splintered from him, he cannibalized the essence of that other soulless, diminishing the Orclash into orcs even as it tainted them.

Ooh, that's a good theory. Far better than anything I came up with!
Astraea2008-01-25 21:05:41
I agree, I really like that theory too. I wonder if there are going to be some Orclach that, after reading this, that are thrown into an identity crisis. I know if I was an Orclach, I'd be a little bit unsure of myself.

Yea Estarra it is pretty nice, as long as the whole woohoo for another one part they put at the end does not mean, woohoo lets have another world war. Cuz well, that would just plain ol suck. I don't want to be part of that history!!
But your histories, yea they are fun to read.

Loboshi's is my favourite volume so far.
It doesn't look like any of the splintered Divine who subsequently became the mortal races went through this process; since it radically changed Orlachmars appearance, and the Elder Gods are pretty much the same in the histories as their mortal avatars. But I think Fain went through it, which might explain the mask and his undeadness.

Fain might have done it, but I think it's definite that Morgfyre did, given how he's essentially a mini-Soulless and eats other Divine.

I have to say, the Histories is one of the most ejoyable aspects of Lusternia because it's so rich, so detailed and so well written. A world is nothing without a deep background, and Lusternia does deliver that. Kudos

I agree. I've lured a couple of people to Lusternia from my PbP games, and the histories and richness of setting detail are always the final selling points that do the trick.

Yeah, I get a whole "mad scientist" vibe from the whole thing. Fain descending into insanity, his loyal lieutenant becoming his prime experiment, ultimately downing the brew himself, slipping into insanity, et cetera, et cetera. Maybe that's why he thought he could make a deal with the Soulless - that he was somehow becoming one of them.
