You're applying RL knowledge to Lusternia. The domesticated (italicized for emphasis, not correction) dog only came about because of human intervention a loooong time ago. In Lusternia, there is no human intervention (I'll even be nice and say any intervention in general) - just the Elder Gods and the Great Nature spirits - so the concept of a domestic dog shouldn't even exist in the first place.
You're assuming that Lusty has no unwritten history. The admin have said multiple times that Lusternia's technology level should be considered equivalent to ours, but because Lusternians have different tools and natural laws, the technology hasn't developed in the same way. We have chemistry and physics. They have magic and planar manipulation. Both worlds have agriculture and domestication.

Then why are all the cows and sheep in the wild and not in the villages?

But there are domestic dogs in Lusternia. Celest has golden retrievers and Magnagora has bloodhounds. There are mutts roaming the streets of Magnagora and mongrels roaming the tidelands - both domestic dogs gone feral, just one in a city environment and one in a 'wilderness' type place.

Not all. Just some.
Lusternia doesn't seem to experience population booms or urban sprawl. Lots of wilderness. I suppose life in a world where killing dozens of people for combat training, wealth plundering, or generic amusement is a status symbol for the upper castes would do that to you.

Well, in some of the villages, Shanthmark and Paavik at least, there are cattle and sheep kept in the village. Maybe the other villages' ranchers just aren't as competent at keeping theirs penned up so they broke out and went feral.

On the contrary, Lusternia experieces sudden booms and sprawl. (i.e. new areas opening up)

So basically, only the one eyed monsters, and the cat people are competant enough to domesticate (if you can't keep them penned up, you can't domesitcate them)

Guess so! Everyone else just goes out to nab a feral cow when they feel like having steak.

"In the first place" was referring to the setting of the book, but it was a bad choice of words. Fixed it.

Yes, you too can own a "fence", this exotic Shanthmark import will cost you a mere ..er... jogabizillion gold.
Daganev2008-03-12 00:07:42
I can't own a fence! Thats immoral!
Only thieves have fences, I'm a legitamite pawn broker I tells ya!

Well, you wouldn't know that for sure-- the only person who said otherwise also said that there was no lava in the book of Tae, so we're still a bit unsure on whether they're the same thing (just changed).

Difference between Tainted and Soulless-infused.
I know that, I was just saying that someone will soon be running around saying that Sun is tainted. Logic has never stopped people before!
On a diferent subject, are the moorings between the ethereal forests and the Tree of Trees the start of what eventually became the forest's Great Trees and nexii of power?
Arvont2008-03-12 06:51:02
I think the Great Trees were seeds of the Tree of Trees.

Oh. I thought they were the Nexuses.
Arvont2008-03-12 09:41:37
Commune Nexuses were granted to them by the Fae, to help them (originally) heal the forests. They (I think) came from the Tree Of Trees. As such, the Commune Nexuses were 'natural', not like the City Nexuses that were built by mortals.

Yeah, but if you buy that "reasoning", you could just as easily prove that everything is made of cheese. So?
So did Noola and hers won prestige, but it is easier to proove the world is Tainted than not.
Also I thought the Trees created the nexuses as they are the conduit for power like Pool of Stars and Megalith, but once the nexus was anchored were no longer needed, such as with the Ravenwood being keeled, yet still used for ethereal transverse. Maybe I'm wrong, what book is it in?

Actually, you wouldn't know that at all.
(Gods really shouldn't post their opinions without definitively checking first--players will take it as canon even when it's completely wrong--such as what happened with some players thinking Elfenehoala was responsible for Mother Night. But just goes to show that gods in Lusternia aren't infallible!)
