I just had another idea.
If there's a sequel, such as the History of the Vernal Wars (in detail), rather than have a book, maybe we could have them appear as a series of plays in the theaters. Y'know, instead of having them appear in a Divine Book, we have a Divine Play and each community (or those on the world stage) can get together and start watching the show when a new chapter appears.

I totally get to play the role of Tzkarizko, because we all know she was secretly a loboshigaru.
-waits for impending arguement-
Edit: I don't care how misspelled that name is.

I totally approve of this. Just think of how cool the effects could be!!

In the end it turns out that Kethuru is Estarra's father.

In all seriousness, I thought of a Divine Play as a way to keep things more in character. It can be hard to gather around and have one person read the book aloud. Hallifax did it, apparently, but it's easier to read than to discuss it--I had Tully post quickly because I wanted as many people around to help and fight the Gnafia. (And I was kind of Disappointed Illeein had posted TBOB here so quickly, because the event hadn't ended yet and I felt we should wait for OOC discussion until after everything ended--no offense Illeein). I was thinking of what Sylandra said about "discovering it in character".
Having a play would both encourage keeping it in character and also have the interaction of the audience as well. It's recorded so you can watch it again. (And for the lapsed players who pop in to read it from time to time, somebody will log it). It really is like a movie, you want as many people around for the experience.
It would also give our Divine a chance to be creative with the plays--the plays are well done, but let's see what the gods can do, and it might lead to new features. ("Estarra: Why can't we do this with the play system? Sior: On it Ma'am!") And yes, I know, Lusternia is their whole stage, but still, I'd love to see a history played out.

Under ordinary circumstances I'd agree, but considering the Elder Wars are so eagerly anticipated (and have been for some time), I think it's forgiveable to have them posted on the forums ASAP for those players who can't, for whatever reason, get to read it in-character. (Especially considering the website histories haven't been updated since the Elfenhoala book - it could mean a long delay for the unfortunate!) Totally in agreement with the plays thing, though. That'd be an awesome use of existing mechanics.
Ileein2011-01-13 17:24:06
To be frank, Tully, the event was in fact pretty much over-- that is, the climax had been reached. Those people incapable of logging in were the only ones who wouldn't have read your post, and since they were incapable of logging in anyway...

True, but the event was still going on (I don't think the last machine died until 11:30?) and it just seemed too quick. I wasn't sure we should be discussing it until after the climax, especially after seeing many times to not discuss ongoing event details. Or maybe I'm jealous because I spent all the time trying to post in game and your forum post came up quick . I do agree with Jack that it's okay to discuss the Elder Wars stuff in general, since there's a lot of love for this games Mythology and History.
(Additionally, I noticed since two books were not posted anywhere here, posting the books here was discouraged or something...I've been trying to figure out the new forum paradigm since I got back, and I didn't want to break any rules.)

For some reason the idea of it being a play bugs me. It'd remove the sense of urgency. The thing about the Elder Wars is that they're an Apocalyptic Chronicle. They wrote this stuff down pretty much as it happened, presumably for the benefit of mortals later. If it was a play, someone would have had to orchestrate it that way. It'd've had to've been constructed after the fact.
Unknown2011-01-13 18:46:31
Of course, but we're talking about a sequel like the Vernal wars, not the Elder ones.
And a "Divine Play" may not be conducted by "actors". Suppose it's the fates using the stages to show some lost aspect of histories, with their servants in the roles of those people, or just using the stage to project their knowledge. (The stages are a bit weird in that they are partly a live broadway performance and part TV or theater (with recording and playback).

The stage really allows them to present the story just as it might have happened if we were playing through it. There's no limit with effects and such. Maybe the events were recorded as they happened on some kind of crystal that our stages can process and replay?
Kiradawea2011-01-13 18:47:48
That was already done in Serenwilde with, I think Lisaera and Charune. You'd need to ask someone more knowledgeable than me though, as I only heard it through the grapevine.
Rika2011-01-13 18:49:47
If the Vernal Wars were to be depicted in plays, they likely would have been directed by Menestre. I really doubt the other Vernals would have had the time to care. This won't have the same effect that the History of the Elder Wars has, as we will not be able to go into the thoughts of the individual Vernals.
Sylphas2011-01-13 23:58:22
Even if they don't do a Divine Play, someone could easily take the Elder Wars books we have and make plays from them! I should try my hand at Bollikin's, if no one else has.
