Can I have another Other?

One of you is enough. I can only imagine what your Other is like. It's probably Kethuru.

My Other is a pretty lazy player. I think they may have abandoned me. cry.gif All I do is sit around at the computer! They should try to get out and RP some more. sad.gif

I was a little surprised to see that card being played. Part of me thinks it's cool to have one more way to have some of the unavoidable OOC stuff have an IC explanation -- the same way the amnesia of the Portal has always, since day one, given us an IC explanation for the OOC necessity that you start at age 16-21 and yet don't know the world yet when you start. Part of me is worried that all the people who talk in thinly veiled allusions to "my soul is tired" or "I am having troubles with my soul connection" will be worse, and joined by more people, and we'll just have more reason to slip farther from immersion, because now it's not only common, it's canon.

My mind wasn't particularly blown, but I think the first time I wrote up my own character sheet and wondered about what kind of harsh GM my player is stuck with, dates to almost thirty years ago, so the "Other's Other" is a pretty familiar idea for me.

Where these last few chapters have been most powerful is when they were saddest. I think that for as much potential as Meridian had for being sad, being the last, Xyl's story (ironically, considering who Xyl was) was the saddest, and the most powerful. All in all, the journey has been amazing.

But I'm also whimpering at all the questions that never did get answered. I wonder how they will get answered eventually... and which ones never will be.

Was I the only one disappointed in the blatant fourth wall being broken there? sad.gif

Reminded me a little of this.

Otherwise, loved it.

You're my Other from another mother.

This entry made me mad. I do not know why.

My other is a jerk then. Also the Bollikin, and Dracnoris splinter parts were so sad. I was also really happy to learn that Dracs are the longest lived race. Longest lived, not longest living.

Getting to read two new Elder Books in a day...didn't think that would ever happen.

This last book was awesome. Really really awesome. The last couple of books also captured the vast expanse of time from the beginning of the Elder Wars to the end...it's a really epic story.

Loved the twist at the end too, makes the Portal of Fate and the entire newbie intro really fascinating.

I feel bad hunting dragons now though. sad.gif

I believe that part was in reference to dragons, not dracnari.

Er, I read it as Dragons are longest lived and dracnari were not particularly notable for life span.

I don't think it's aether dragons that are shards, rather the dragon that we see with the Zoaka quest.

Also wow, two new books.

What I liked is the thought that there were four tribes (kinds) of Dragons, and that's probably not counting the Black Dragons in Aetherspace.

Unknown2011-01-22 05:46:32
They should clearly make Lusternia v2.0 where the setting is a parallel universe in which there are four dragon orgs.

Personally, I think this "Other" is all bunk and those who believe such nonsense should be locked up and kept away from sharp objects. What's a fourth wall anyway?

Anyway, I hope everyone has enjoyed the Elder Wars! It certainly took longer to write than expected. I did want to release the last two chapters close to each other as I considered them rather a pair.

I know there was talk about doing the Vernal Wars, but I do not think that will happen. We have been using the Vernal Wars as background for many areas and quests, and I think that probably is best to reserve the history for that. (But you never know -- I may change my mind!)

Have you ever given thought to expanding on the history of the Soulless Gods? I personally am a huge fan of the Illithoid and the unofficial 'Book of Illith'.

Just read the last few pieces.

The last ones were really quite depressing, especially Bollikins.

I'm not sure what to think of the final bit for two reasons, realistically suddenly finding that out would be a huuuuge shock for my char, who would probably start acting utterly paranoid and distressed. I mean what would you do if you suddenly found out someone was seeing through your eyes and possibly controlling some of your actions? You'd start wearing a tin foil hat, that's what.

Secondly, yeah, it's a break in the fourth wall which I had hoped had just been confined to the odd bid of banter and dingbat items (Cririk Adom doll, anyone?), but it was a nice story and good to have a real reason why entering the portal of fate can make people better and whatnot.

Unknown2011-01-22 07:37:49
I really like this idea of the Other. Rather than disrupt any sort of immersion I think it helps reinforce it, on multiple levels.
Razenth2011-01-22 07:38:55
Hey, I actually designed a tin foil hat. Hit me up sometime.

I think Moonlace has tinfoil witch's hats, if that's more your thing!
