I'm glad everyone likes the histories! They are more time-consuming to write than one might imagine (though a poor excuse for how long its been).

Just for your own edification, centaurs were supposed to be a race choice (as is probably obvious with how prevalent they are in Serenwilde) but Roark talked me out of it because (as someone mentioned) the logistics of accounting for 6 limbs in the code.

I no longer like Roark.

Edit: Namely because if you take out 1 leg of a massively front-heavy 4-legged creature, like a centaur its going to have a maaajor limp, and if you take out both, its not going to be able to walk. It just doesn't seem like the extra legs would change combat at all.

Centaurs + riding = AWKWARD

Not really. Let them use the abilities without a mount. They become the equivilent of a "legendary" mount at level 50. Poof.

Yeah, as cool as centaurs may sound, there's all sorts of things beyond just breaking legs that just doesn't make coding them worth it (unless we had a lot of time on our hands which we don't).

As another example besides negating the entire skillset of riding for centaurs, there's the little problem of what to do with pants. That may not seem like a big deal until you realize that warrior centaurs would probably really want armour, which brings up coding a whole new set of clothing slots, maybe adding new additions to tailoring and forging, etc.

Or, if you allowed them to use riding without the mount, then the Defense skill could be used to grant them an armor bonus for their legs?

Defense and trample would be just about the only two usable skills in the entire set though. The rest of them mostly relate to calling or caring for your mount.

Fording. Gallop. Jousting. Would be made up for by actually giving Defense a real effect for them, since its not really much use for others, given that they get knocked off pretty quickly. Sort of like an extra Resistance skillset.

Apologies to Valarien, who got to feel the brunt of my very non-IC desire to see the latest works. I'm a story whore... sue me.

But yes... all sorts of fun with Tae, here. I'm not sure if anyone else got this mental image, but I imagined this giant, hulking, bedraggled hobo-man smiling and talking with his hands as he rumbled to an audience of gods, only every fifth word or so being coherent.

Xyl's great just due to sheer grumpiness.

And I'm thankful for the confirmation that Crumkane was indeed a highly-deranged Elder God, as suspected... I've been spending entirely too much time in that aetherbubble for my own good. Fun thought... if Ackleberry ever comes back, would Crumkane be the patron god? Just think... gingerbread war shrines.

Defense and trample are just about the only useful skills in the entire set anyway. laugh.gif

And I highly doubt we'll be seeing Crumkane. My guess is that he splintered into the candy people. (Also, he'd be a bit too silly to actually reintroduce into the game's environment.)

Looks like I wasn't so far off basing tae'dae on Winnie the Pooh, Tae reminds me of him on many levels.

See the first thing I said to Estarra after reading the Book of Tae was that Tae and Bollikin reminded me a lot of Pooh and Piglet, but apparently it wasn't actually designed that way!

Well, people thought Viravain was a bit silly until she was possessed by Kethuru and then transformed.

Try to imagine a tainted Crumkane.

I suppose it wasn't obvious, but the denizens of Crumkindivia were actually the fae who followed Crumkane (remember that a group of fae became his avid servants, i.e., sugar plum fae, etc.). Crumkane couldn't stand the thought of his recipes (i.e., his artwork) being lost in the Elder Wars so he created the aetherbubble and hid the fae there who had his recipes memorized. Over the aeons, the fae forgot who they were and merged with the recipes, becoming what we see there today.

I'm slightly dissapointed that you thought you couldn't make centaurs work.

A faeling with wings, and a Tae'dae can both wear the same shirt, armour etc.

A simple magick that makes clothing conform to the body it is put on would work.

And being able to count as a legendary steed at level 50 would be pretty darn cool. Just make a flag that states you are always mounted.

Of course what would be even neater is if you were a pegatuar, but bleh.

Also, from the reading of the story of Tae, I thought it was very clear that Sugar and SPice were types of fae, and thought that was a bit neat.
Unknown2006-06-10 17:28:49
It would have been cool if you could ride your centaur friend.
Danm cool...albite a bit perverted, but yeah XD

They are fae... they just aren't NATURE fae, the faethorn fae are the spirits of nature, those fae were the spirits of ... ingredients, later they melded with the recipes themselves; so honestly, the serenwilde shouldn't have anything for or against them compared to any other sentient beings out there.

This would be the best way to discribe it in my view: Faethorn fae is to Tree as Aetherbubble fae is to Cookie.
