QUOTE(Nokraenom @ Aug 19 2005, 04:11 PM)
It really raises the question of whether Viravain is truly blind to the Taint, or whether She just refuses to accept its existence. Estarra supports the former, but such an extreme attitude towards it seems to suggest that She may have some knowledge that the Taint is real. Interesting dilemma, but ultimately it's only interesting at a distance, not for those in the commune.
Why? She can't see the taint and it is my understanding that she doesn't like people talking about the taint in her presence. (Rather like it pisses off color blind people to have others continuously describe colors around them.) I'd guess that whether or not the taint exists is irrelevant to Viravain, and if no one ever mentions it around her, it would be a non-issue. But so long as people shove it in her face to declare that Glomdoring is a 'tainted forest', then who is the one making it an issue?
Just a perspective.
Jairdan2005-08-20 00:03:51
I hope Viravain keeps it up. The idea of a tainted forest not believing they are tainted is what made it, in my mind, not just a forestral Magnagora.
Its a silly silly thing for everyone to move there and expect it to fit their perspective. I know you guys don't want to expend the effort to make it an awesomely original place, and would prefer a cookie cut-out of Magnagora which will thrive under big brother.. but.. wtf? You all begged and begged for Glomdoring.. just so you could turn it into Magnagoa Jr? Jesus. I'd have MUCH prefered to have either Hallifax or Gaudiguch returned over the crap the almighty Treerippers are trying to pull with Glomdoring.
"We decided we were goin to announce that Glomdoring is tainted!" ... who the hell are you to decide that? See, this is the problem with Glomdoring.. you "leaders" are all the rejects from everywhere else who wanted power but didn't get it, but then, you found out too late that VIRAVAIN had the power in Glomdoring, and what strings you want to pull don't mean jack.
Bleh. I say Glomdoring goes back to an NPC forest, and the Treeripper family gets banned from every future organization.

Heh. As we have discussed over and over, if Glomdoring just wouldn't push Viravain, things would be cool; I don't understand why the bulk of Glomdoring is so hellbent on fighting with itself.
Is this why we also see Gloms killing Gloms all the time?

I imagine the only reason it would piss off color blind people is because they know that colors do exist, and they can't see them. The question that I think is interesting is (as I imagine is more likely) whether Viravain has some idea the Taint exists, particularly now that She has vastly increased intelligence and a plethora of information suggesting that it does and what happened to Her, and She just continues to deny it, or, whether She's completely oblivious to it (as I think is less likely).
You're right that it would be a non-issue if nobody mentioned it around Her, but then again, if nobody in Celest, Serenwilde, or Magnagora mentioned the Taint either, we wouldn't all be at war with one another, and could negate some of the greatest conflicts in the history of the Basin!
The issue itself is what makes it interesting, not that you can simply ignore it and play ostrich.

Go back to whatever hole you crawled from please.
The Treerippers don't control nothing and I never said they did. It was discussed though INORDER TO HELP GLOMDORING, that maybe declaring we are tainted may draw more people. Open your damn ears and listen, this isn't for a selfish need, it's just how we see people going. I don't care if it is seen as tainted or not, it changes nothing about Ethelon really, but this is for the future of Glomdoring and it's current perspective on the taint is not drawing enough people and we kep losing people over the argument.
Nyla2005-08-20 00:08:31
Me leaving was because Yukari and I had argued this whole Glomdoring being tainted thing constantly and we were both getting on each others nerves. The perspective of the taint before I left the BLacktalon was along the lines of
The defenition of being tainted in the eyes of the Blacktalon is the presence of the essence of Kethuru.
Viravain wiped his essence from the Glomdoring therefore it is not tainted.
Viravain created something new that is neither tainted nor forest (by the definition of Serenwilde) so to call it tainted is to dishonour her. However to say that the effects of Kethuru's presence can be seen in the Glomdoring does not.
This however did not please Yukari and more arguing commenced and Shikari got involved and all hell broke loose.
*note:This is not all of it

So.. YOU decide to shout "Hey, we really -are- tainted! Come join us!"
And a flood of Mag rejects show up..
And then the majority of the population no longer believes in the original (both in being the first, and in actually being original) ideals of Glomdoring and it turns further into Mag Jr.
Um.. how is this good for Glomdoring in any way, except to bring you closer to your buddies?
That's what I thought. I think you're more dellusional than Viravain.

Where did I ever say it was going to be like that... I'm sorry, but there is a great deal of RP within Glomdoring and the Treerippers. We have been discussing it for litterally the last few months among our members and if it was that we decided to push forward, it would be through RP and not some lame shout. Just because the only side you see of me Jairdan is when I'm killing your people, don't assume I don't understand what RP is. And the major difference is it would stop arguments like what Nyla and Yukari had among others... this would be better for the Commune I believe.

I don't think the problem is so much your intent, Ethelon, but the reality that it wouldn't help Glomdoring to make it "more" like Magnagora and thus "more" coupled as their forest territory.
I understand you want to do something, but I really think this the wrong path... that is, to start a war with Viravain.

Thing is, you're taking the WRONG side. Nyla had the right idea. The path you're taking is one to RUINING what Glomdoring could have been. If you're going to take a side, take the one that will make Glomdoring respectable in its RP if not in politics. You talk about knowing how to RP.. but you are basically trying to grab the reins away from Viravain and steer it in the opposite direction, when obviously her actions were meant to be the example.
You know about RP? Your whole famiy went to a place with a dictator and then was shocked when things didn't go there way. You're not trying to help Glomdoring, you're trying to help yourselves. If you wanted to help the ideal of Glomdoring, you would be backing Nyla's views, because they are what the damn place was founded on.

Hmm, I didn't realize there was a right and a wrong side to roleplaying. They should do what's right by their roleplay and their characters, and you should leave them to it rather than harassing and attacking them on the forums.

This is something that has been gone over while Vira was gone... as I stated earlier, if we think this would harm the Glomdoring now, we won't do it... which is how it looks. It's annoying when we are be seen as selfish and greedy when this whole thing started up by us trying to figure out a way to make Glomdoring better, it was NEVER intended to make us more powerful. As I said, as Ethelon and aside from Faethorn, I'm hapy with Glomdoring and the RP within in, though I was only trying to think of better ways to assist our people.
Silvenae2005-08-20 00:26:16
Honestly, Jairdan, you have to realize that this version of Glomdoring with the "we are not tainted" belief is not what anyone had in mind when they were pushing for the commune to be an actual organization. It came into play only when Viravain did, and is actually -- believe it or not -- a large part of why Glomdoring doesn't have nearly as many members as it would have if it had just began as a tainted commune. Yes, declaring that Glomdoring is tainted now would inevitably draw a lot of Magnagorans, but that's because you can't create players out of thin air and they HAVE to come from another organization. A lot of the original leaders were Serenwilders, which made just as little sense as the commune being composed of Magnagorans.
What ruined what Glomdoring "could have been" is this weird shades-of-grey system of beliefs Viravain introduced. In case you haven't noticed, people in Lusternia like being tainted or non-tainted. Any other sort of alignment is just too confusing. It's like Achaea's chaos vs. order. Eventually it reverted to evil vs. good because shades of grey in roleplaying are too confusing for most people and create situations exactly like this.

There is most certainly a right and wrong side. You don't join a brand new organization, cruise along during all the culture-shaping events, and then go "Hey, F that, we want it our way." and then, just because your side is bigger, kick the hell out of the effort the Admin put into something so big.
Basically, they're hurting the overall atmosphere of the game with their actions, at least in my opinion. If Glomdoring had been MEANT to be a province of Magnagora, then sure, that'd have been cool.. but it wasn't.. the cultural-development went in a totally different direction.. and one group of people are basically ignoring it even on an OOC level. (like hell Marsu would have gotten in/made champ/now marshall based on IC events. He should have been run up the Ravenwood, but no, he is buddies with the 'in crowd')

There is a great deal you seem to be missing man. I've recently, and in the past spoken with High members of other organizations who stated very clearly that the only reason they didn't join Glomdoring is because they didn't agree with the falsehood within. IE, if we embraced the taint, which doesn't have to be the same "type" as Magnagora's, itwould draw more people and stop the civil war which seems to be brewing. Then again, I can be wrong, after all, everyone has free-will and can decide how they wish to RP.
Jairdan2005-08-20 00:36:00
The falsehood is what makes Glomdoring UNIQUE and INTERESTING
your vision of Glomdoring is incredibly dull to me.. because it is essentially a Magnagora with Trees
I had this silly image of 1984 in mind for Glomdoring when the cultural-shaping events were happening, and it made me think 'wow, the Admin are really giving us an awesome world to play in" and then your side comes in and is like "What? Work for it? NoooOO! I want to embrace the taint so all the cool people I hung out with beore will come join meeee! I don't like to strain myself and forge an original ethos! I want a chatroom, dammit!"

Glomdoring is open to interpretations, the whole concept is shady, and you're surprised people have different views on it? Damn, even the two patrons have different views on it.
All you're saying is that there's only one right way to perceive it and whoever thinks otherwise is a moron and should leave or keep quiet. In a spiteful way.
