I don't know about you, but I think these are high prices.  Down with the Astral linkers!

Yeah, damn those Astral linkers for inflating the credit market again! biggrin.gif

I'm going to have to agree with Shiri that the death of astral is directly linked to the slow but gradual price drop in the credit market. However, if this war with Serenwilde/Celest v. Mag/Glom intensifies, I'd rather have astral back to its motes state. Why? People are going to lose levels and it'll simply be easier for them to gain it back with astral back up. If the war does intensify and eventually ends, people are going to want to bash to regain the experience they lost. Having astral open as a viable option to bash will allow more people to regain their original levels and therefore be less frustrated.

One question: How do we bring them back, assuming we want to?

Just recharging the things won't do. Fact is, the nodes should've been charged back by now (takes 2 weeks from empty to get to half way I heard); it's players that drained it and it's players that are still keeping the things drained. Filling them back up via imm event just means the ones draining them get a rush of power and we go back to sware one in a week at most. I bet if you speed up the recharge time the things won't have a chance.

To the folks who have played normal bashing muds: remember those areas that were VERY good bashing zones? Remember when everyone got good at bashing there? That's Astral right now.

Thus I believe the only option that will work at all is what's going on now: player regulated action. I can be done and if it succeeds, Astral will return.

We will see what happens when there is no more credit sale.

shush thorgal, they drop what they're worth. 80 gold wouldn't keep you in health potions.

I can keep myself if health potions just bashing Earth, and I sip every time I get heal balance back. If not, I can always weevil for 5 minutes and have enough health for another few days. It's really not that hard.
Daevos2005-08-24 04:01:40
Personally, I'm starting to like Astral dead.

I love people like this who post. how many health vials is this, perchance? Two? 5 minutes of weeviling will get you enough for 5 or so health vials. Thats cool if you're tanky mofo and you can bash water/earth without health vials (like me now), but thats not cool if you're not so tanky and can't slay something without using health.
Sylphas2005-08-24 04:03:22
I sip EVERY time I can. I use sparkleberries most times. I'm not tanky at ALL. I still keep myself in health, easily. Get a clue.
Kahazul2005-08-24 04:25:40
I'm a Mugwump, quite easily one of the least 'tanky' races in the game.

I sip health at every balance when bashing spectres, and still get enough gold from what they drop alone to keep myself refilled with health and fire. This is not to mention the gold you get for doing the rest of the quest.

Shallach Orcs pay off far more than they cost in gold as well, as do Astral creatures. I don't know about the catacombs.
Narsrim2005-08-24 04:48:17
I really wish the people who drain the nodes to nothing would enroll in a basic Economics course and learn how supply-and-demand works because I'm quite tired of whinning about Astral having some major effect on credit prices. With every IRE game, as the maximum number of credits increase, the overall price decreases. Given the current credit sale and thus the surge of credits, we find them to be cheaper than before. When this ends with-or-without Astral, the prices will surge once again.
Kharvik2005-08-24 04:48:28
I also like Astral dead and think it has had a positive impact on the credit market.

And Raguel, Astral mobs are -not- worth what they drop. They die in a crushing critical a lot of the time, thats not worth 150-400gp.

See above post.

I understand what youre saying, but also take into account the amount of gold flowing around when Astral was at its prime. When everyone has such gold prices inflate. If you can sell credits at 6k and people buy, you and other sellers might step it up a notch to 6.2k and see if they buy, if they buy then you'll raise the price again. Which is what in my opinion was happening. Bashing Astral I could afford credits at 7k a piece as could many other people and so sellers looking to make the most from their credits would continue to sell at that ridiculus price knowing people would buy. Now without Astral there's not so much gold in the system and so the prices have been dropping as people can no longer afford 6 and 7k credits.
Sylphas2005-08-24 05:07:40
Which makes credits worth less gold, which makes it harder for Hartstone to afford rooms for it's guildhall. sad.gif

Hartstone doesn't need more rooms, it's just a big circle of dirt and rocks.

It's about inflation also, and when there is practically limitless supply of gold, the value of one piece of gold is less than if there was a capped amount of currency.

For example, when Brazil (I think) had the bright idea of printing a crap-load of currency to fix their economic problems, inflation increased by some obscene amount.
Singollo2005-08-24 05:27:18
I laugh at anyone saying that because Astral is dead, I should get my gold from my trade skill. Yeah, I sure have a huge breadwinner in this forging skill I have. So do those poisonists, and tailors, and jewelers. The only thing players can really do is police their own organizations, or at least attempt to.

If I had it my way, I'd powerblock everyone I thought was overlinking, but since I don't, they can still run willynilly and drain the nodes selfishly with some stupid rationalization linked to the Catacombs and 1.75 mobiles in the bowels of Serenwilde per person because there's 100 ranked people in the top 100 xp ranks.

Screw your credit market economics, screw your catacombs, screw your lobstrosities and most of all screw France.
