Ok, so I've read the histories on the website many times (in the first week) and as I've said before they are very well done. My question(s) are based upon the use of that history ICly and also if we should seek approval for some things. I'm asking this mainly as the writer of this history may be horribly offended if you attempt something based on those histories which they did not have in mind. I have an idea to try and use something obscure from the Magnagora part into my RP in the city (and character), but don't want to step on any toes.
Also, I've heard debates about how much the histories posted on the site mean ICly. Do we as characters know these histories, or are they simply something that we as players know? I heard an interesting debate about this today, and I think the recent bookbinding skill added to it. If the Great Library was destroyed, then how do we as characters know the last transmissions from Hallifax and Gaudiguch (sp?). I've pretty much given up on combat other than influencing, and want to take on a more indepth RP style which I have tried to startup before. Right now I wallow around bashing and um...bashing. So any opinions on the full use of Histories ICly or the use of things with approval?
Thanks. Again, well done on the histories. I read them the first day, and really haven't touched them since then. Reading them again has really reinvigored my love for the realm, so hopefully some other people take a look as well again.

We're tainted, we hate the light and we want to spread the taint through the entire basin

Gwyl's post there is basically the way I've taken it as well.

My bad didn't even notice your posting. More opinions will help though!

I always assumed they were written records, and that I had read them in my guild's library. This seems particularly a necessary interpretation given the "written" nature of the latter parts -- transcripts of meeting minutes and aether broadcasts, excerpts from journals, etc. (Gwylifar's Posting from the other thread)
I was under the assumption that all the guilds had little bits of info, and that the Great Library served as the storehouse for all of it. It's a little late now since almost everyone uses the histories, but jsut has me confused. I have read them on the website, but not as my IC character.
As far as the approval thing, I was aiming towards family names and activities of certain groups. Like the Great Houses of Magnagora, I get the names, but were those given by the patron or did someone just decide to found them one day? Can you pull small things like that out of the history and use them for yourself..or should I contact my patron/Estarra/Roark/Lisaera...whomevah!

Lets discuss that when Great Libraries are finally built.
But speaking of histories... did we mention that the books received during the scribe event were magical and continually update? Hope the cities and communes kept theirs and aren't just using them as door stops!

Door Stops! I'm insulted. We use ours as a dining table, I'll have you know!
Ok, let me be more specific, but not on the topic that I am thinking of. Lets say I wanted to plan an entire family history as the descendant of Lolly Pringle (put in any name from histories). NOTE: THIS ISN'T IN MY PLANS. Can I as a player go and pay the 25k to found the Pringle family, or will I just be told later on that I need to drop it. Magnagora has its great houses (already founded) and a few other families and I know the other commune and cities have some decent sized ones as well. I think it is something we can draw upon more to create some unique situations, but again, don't want to step on toes. I realize I can't just walk around and say I'm from the descendancy of Emperor Ladantine, etc., but some of the more minor points in the histories.
Can't wait to see what happens with the Libraries btw.

For a prominent name in the history, email support with a background of the family and short summary of why you are taking that name. We only want established players who we know will be around and not let the name die.
If it's a prominent name in the city or commune, it'll need to go through the city/commune patron.
