The thing I don't understand Ialie is that you don't fight. If your cubix took a couple seconds to work, what effect would it really have on you?

Because it would be a hinderance to me. Just because I don't fight doesn't make what I do less important. I love it the way it is.

But if you had to make a minor sacrifice to make things more balanced, would that hinderance be too much to ask?

What DO you do, anyway? I never see you on prime - you're always in your manse. Aah, the innuendos we could make on this one.

And I would like to add, for those whos argument are 'It was no problem in other IRE games' there was but there was means to prevent it, they had totems, they had vibes, they had realm scry (I know it exists here, but how many are that high in planar?) they had guards, + guards shouting..
And like you it was said before, to escape with wings, you had to first fly, and when you flap into the sky
there's a balance, (what I remember), that would leave a room for geyser/(that tattoo that pulls them down, can't remember the name)..
And they didn't have distant importent objectivs to raid/defend, where you can only type _who_ to spot all the attackers/defenders, leaves for the raider to the complete initiative.. unless he gets caught when he enters, which is still a high chance to be able to escape..
I think that was all...

Why change my artifact, why not change the way guards can be positioned on Celestia and Nil?

Well, you know, I just realized something. Your complaints about heirloom rings and all. It is a hindrance to fighters to only have 10 charges, and all that good stuff. We loved it the way it was. Why change it? It doesn't make what we do any less important.
Athana2005-08-27 23:52:23
Hrm, I suppose I wouldn't mind it taking a few SECONDS...
And I've seen Ialie on Astral, instant cubixing is good for running away from mobiles when you're about to die...not just for fighting.

Because it becomes a problem with guard placement, and extra amounts of power/gold cities now have to put into guards. It doesn't bother you - we're a commune. We don't have to worry about that.

You couldn't have loved it the way it was because it was never like that. What happened was a quick change that you never got a chance to experience.
Nice try though.

Coming from a man with a cubix:
Yes, I believe that the single-handed power that it adds to raiding parties and such cannot be so easily overlooked. This artifact is by far the most powerful thing that I have in my arsenal.
While I have been stopped from cubixing away from certain battles, namely I believe in which someone was dedicated solely to keeping me entangled.. the fact remains that with this I can lead an entire Army onto an enemy Plane in a matter of seconds, and all I have to do is wait for a moment in which the opposing side is weaker in number or in viable combatants to launch a strike that can be utterly devastating.
Take the current situation with the Demon Lords. How was that possible? Because I took a bunch of people without cubixes, gathered them all together into one convienient little entourage, and led them to Nil. If it were similar to, say, Imperian (where one has to fly and leaves behind an entourage that cannot fly as well), or just made to where people cannot follow the owner.. then the owner can still reap the benefit of being able to gain near instantaneous access to any Plane while still taking away the vast military applications that this artifact possesses as it stands now.
That is the biggest change I would recommend. The idea about a short delay is nonsense. I didn't pay $600 for some new form of teleportation. I paid for its incredibly quick access to any Plane. However, to limit its effectiveness in raids, I would recommend that only the owner can use it, and entourages are left behind, so that the owner and only the owner can ever enjoy its benefits.
Of course, this also makes picking people up and helping them from Higher Planes a bit more of an inconvienience, but that is something worth paying to take away what is right now simply a powerful military tool, for either side.

Enemies of Nil cannot follow you into Nil. Or atleast that was the way it was when we were trying to get to astral to get the shards of the Seals.

And making it have a few seconds lag AFTER touching wouldn't affect you at all. I mean, okay, it stinks - you have to sit in the fulcrux for 2, 3, maybe like 4 or 5 seconds. Woo. Nothing's going to happen to you, if you're not fleeing from an attacker. And that takes someone with a cubix.

They can. We did it earlier.
Unknown2005-08-28 00:03:56
It doesn't matter if they can or can't follow me to Nil. The cubix itself doesn't take them directly to Nil. It's not like, "Touch this cubix. Go to Nil. Go directly to Nil. Do not pass Nexus, do not collect 200 guards."
It takes me to the fulcrux from which I can access Nil. If they can't follow me directly onto the Plane, that doesn't matter. They can simply take a single step south for themselves.

Wow so snappish.
It was that way when we were trying to get shards from the nods on astral I was enemied to Nil so I couldn't follow the rest of the people there correctly.

Right, Ialie. I remember that. However, it is still an irrelevant argument.
I touch cubix, I go south.. then anyone left behind just go south themselves. Situation remedied.

Why not just make raiding impossible? That will solve all your problems.
Saran2005-08-28 02:50:52
these threads are getting boring. it's just back and forth
we paid $600 (or whatever near $1000 for aussies i believe)
we'll we don't have one and it's too hard to defend
(add in the stirers)
it is unbalanced thats easy to see, making it like wings might not do much with the guardians/wiccans or any trill/fae (if i have my facts right)
so go back to what this thread is about how about 1 power per person in your entourage? this mean's no more than 10 people can be cubixed. the more people you cubix the longer the down-time, so taking an army to celestia or nil would effectivly slow your chances of getting away easily giving the defenders time to kill who ever the owner is and possibly trapping the rest up there for the defenders to pick off
