Yes, that damn'd hurricane is going to hit Lousisana and Mississippi really freaking hard. If you haven't been keeping up with the weather it's supposed to be stronger the Camille. It's supposed to hit the morning of my birthday (damnit) so if I'm not around it's because our connection is down because of wind/rain.
Is anyone else going to be caught in this too?
Oh and if you didn't know.. 1/3rd of the oil comes through New Orleans, so you might wanna go and fill up your car before this thing hits.

and I'm very afraid of storms.. this is going to suck.
We are under a Tropical storm watch and that's saying something, considering how far inland I am.
Silvenae2005-08-28 21:32:57
How far inland ARE you?
I remember having to go to school during Ivan last year when there was about 6 inches of water on the ground and it was coming down like a waterfall. We weren't even in the direct path of it, it was a state away. And Katrina is a lot bigger.
Glad I don't live anywhere near where it's hitting anymore.

I'm about 7-8 hours inland.. not sure how many miles, but you get the idea.

They did wonderful jobs predicting it. They're like, "It'll cut RIGHT across Florida." So we all got totally wasted, as the eye was SUPPOSED to go over us almost perfectly, and it curved along the edge of Florida overnight and hit back home.

You know.. if there was this big bad thing that could kill me heading towards where I lived.. the last thing I would want to be is drunk, so at least I would have the sense to seek shelter. Jesus.. imagine a hangover and all of the warning sirens going off.

My dear, I was in Hurricane Andrew. In fact, we evacuated to my Aunt's house - in Kendall Park. I remember walking around during the Eye. Ever since, I have no fear of hurricanes.
Drunken terror is one of the greatest things EVER. I know Richter hates me (when I post like this), but it is. It's funny. It's hysterical. I love it.
Manjanaia2005-08-28 22:54:51
Hehe, I was in Florida just as the meteorologists started warning people about it, and left a week before it hit
Vix2005-08-28 22:58:33
That thing looks like it's the size of Texas! I'll probably feel some effects of the hurricane too even though it's not going to hit me directly. BAH! So much for storms like this hitting once every 29 years. *grump*
Vix2005-08-28 22:59:23
Hurricane Katrina is now a Category 5 hurricane -- top winds are 165 mph. The pressure has dropped as low as 902 mb. This pressure reading is the 4th lowest on record in the Atlantic Basin.
As says www.weather.com.
EDIT: Oh, here's the image as of now.

That's a demon of a storm. I feel bad for you all. It's a beast, but it'll break down, nothing that big can keep such strong winds for long.
Unknown2005-08-28 23:10:23
I live in Hattiesburg, MS, about 60 miles from the coast. Thing'll still be a cat 2 when it hits me. I went to Walmart Superstore today to get some water and stuff and it was a MADHOUSE! Seriously. I got one of the last cases of water they had and I thought a lady was gonna hit me or something.
I'm totally gonna lose power, as a normal storm causes the electricity in this old house I'm living in to flicker. Who knows how long. My grandmother said Camille knocked power out for a week and this bad boy is at least as strong as Camille. Course the electrical companies have hopefully gotten more efficent since 1969...but still.
Gonna be fun.
I really feel bad for folks in New Orleans though...the interstates are parking lots headed out of there right now.

Maybe it's just the love that I have for my life that makes me not want to be a drunken idiot in this BEAST OF A STORM. Instead I will be cowering in fear in my basement.

I'm worried for you really bad. Make sure you have lots of candles and flashlights. Canned food.. (and can-opener) bottled water.. matchs.. ect. Better stock up!
Gah.. I feel for New Orleans.. I really really hope those levys don't break or else.. well the city will basicly be destroyed. If the Superdome collapses their will be a load of death. Retarded people don't even know if it can withstand this storm, but let's tell everyone to go get in it!

*Flash 20 years into the future*
Ancorman: Hundreds of tourists have flocked to Lake New Orleans to try the new scuba extravaganza. Guides are taking people swimming through the old french quarter in what some are now dubbing the new Alantis.
Humor, its good for the soul.

The weather channel is scaring me with its meticulous charts on wind and rain and the like. I'm rather far inland and my power is predicted to go out. So, if I'm not here for a few days do hold down the fort.
Unknown2005-08-29 04:49:47
Goodness, the eye alone is easily the size of a city.. I've not seen a big one like that for a while.. I suppose we can only hope it loses some strength as it hits land at least.. Meh, I hope people have listened to the warnings this time around...
