Aye. The history that place has built up. The music and the passion that drove it. I've tried really hard to isolate myself here. I know nothing of the death tolls, and the horror that struck New Orleans, my only info was from here, until people started bombarding me about in on AIM, so I was forced to go look stuff up.
It may sound mean, but.. I feel worse for the lost history, music and soul that is now lost than the lives. Hopefully the spirit of New Orleans will live on.

From what they have said on the new sites and channels, it will take atleast a Month for the water to be pumped out of city and perhaps a few years before everything is returned to normal. Most likely 1000 plus people are dead from what I have heard

This is horrible.. it really is. All I got was my power going out for about.. 5 hours and I'm at the northern part of Mississippi. New Orleans.. is gone.. the gulf of Mississippi is gone.. We've been talking about it in school and there were several high schools down south of us that were just picked up off of their foundations and moved, completely destroying them. We're getting new students that have had to move north and live with relatives already. This will probably be the biggest natural disaster within the United States in a long long time.
I went to some of the places that were shown on CNN last year on a school trip to the Gulf, and it has been wiped out. The casinoes that they showed destroyed.. I drove right by those less than a year ago. Nothing is there. You can barely even tell what -used- to be there. This is a huge loss to the economy of my state and we'll be feeling that until we somehow raise the money to rebuild the cities down there.
oh.. and has anyone heard from Amajos? I'm really starting to get worried, because I haven't been able to get in touch with her since Monday. I heard the place she was staying got hit pretty hard.

I'm sure Amajos will be fine. She'll be without power and phone for quite a while, though.
I remember Andrew. I know, I wasn't very old - it's one of those things, though, that sticks with you. My family evacuated to Kendall Park, right where the Eye went over. The devestation was horrible - I can't imagine what this was like.

There are lots of looters stealing for greed though. The newspaper did a story on them and even had a quote which went something like this:
"'Is everything free?' asked a woman. She then screamed 'TV! TV! TV!' when someone answered yes."
It's quite sad. Not to mention the woman won't even have power to watch the TV or cable/satellite anyways.

I'm fine. No trees fell on my house in Hattiesburg, though several of my neighbors' homes were crushed. For the first two days we didn't have running water, and there's still no power for most of the city, including where I live. No phone either and all the cell phone towers but one were destroyed and that one is so clogged up that calling out is almost impossible, so I hadn't been able to get in touch with any of my family living in other states to let them know I was ok.
Things in Hattiesburg are messed up though. People are starting to go a bit crazy from the stress...a man shot his sister in the face a couple of days ago over a bag of ice. Two people were killed in a gas line day before yesterday. The MPs are in town though and they've calmed things down a bit. They're deadly serious about the dawn to dusk curfew. People are still stealing generators out of each other's back yards though.
I'm in Jackson right now, at my dad's house. He's got power and phone, which is how I'm online.
I tell you what though...you haven't lived until you've stood in a line for four hours to get bottled water for two days in a row and have them run out when there's only five or so people left in front of you. Finally got some on the third day.

I remember that. Hurricane George.
Horrific incidents like that make people do some wierd crap. It's horrible that people are reacting like that.
Glad to hear you're okay. <3 Be safe.
