The way you talk about it, Mugwumpi are combat skill distilled. So, am I unstoppable now?
Ceres2005-08-29 08:44:52
Get into this grinder.
Then I'll ferment your corpse, distill the results, and run tests.

Yum. Yrael flavour. I can assume I'll be normal again afterwards. Right, Ceres?
Right?
Right?

Regardless, I'll be brutally murdered by even any half-decent combatant. I might get a lucky shot in (I managed to wrack Alger because he wasn't paying full attention) but that's about it. I've got an ego, though, does that count?
Ceres2005-08-29 08:57:07
You're actually not that bad.
Killing me (admittedly while I was afk) was quite a feat.
Of course, I fixed the bug that let you do so.

Ceres has Narsrim's crack pipe! Regardless, it's a fairly easy point to see I'm not as horrible as I once was, but still fairly damn bad. Mugwumps are not the problem; take a look at the current mugwumps. They had success as other races; Kaervas as an example. Yes, Kaervas suddenly got good after going Mugwump! He was so bad as a Viscanti that he got the shite beaten out of him the moment he walked out of Magnagora!

I'd be a usless combatant not matter what race I was.
Influencing however...
Every race has advantages and drawbacks. Faelings (non-specilised) and mugwumps make good influencers. Course, faelings have the advantage of not looking like amphibians. Just look how many faelings there are outside of Glomdoring.
Yrael2005-08-29 09:14:59
Serenwilde has a few; GLomdoring just has faeling specilisations. Think of them like Viscanti, or delicious Merian. Or Elfen. Except.. less.. Fain-hated.
Edit:
Protector of Hartstone, Kariol
Heir of Ellindel, Narsrim Moonlit Avenger
Yrael, the Necroturge
Rwho now, that is. In peak hours, double or triple the list. So many mugwumps!

Basically if you look at this objectively, Loboshigaru are severely disadvantaged, and all other races are vastly superior.

Right.
Or, say, cold vulnerability/resistance doesn't matter much, because the only player attacks that can do cold is Aquamancer hailstorm (and that's only half cold). The only time that would really matter is if you're bashing the catacombs. Similar case for psychic - very little does psychic damage and the little that does is generally a very small amount of damage.
On the other hand, having an extra point or two of intelligence for a mage, or strength for a knight, can make a very significant difference.

and that's why igashos are the best race! well, even if over all their abilities aren't best they still are best! the world will be ruled by the igashos!!
tsaephai2005-08-29 13:24:26
hmm...this thread made me think, so i went and looked at all of the races and added up all of the stats, then added and minus for advantages and disadvantages. any advantages or disatvantages that didn't have a level number i automatically made worth 1 point. here's what i got;
aslarani-79
dracnari-85
dwarven-75
elfen-83
faeling-78
furrikin-77
human-75
igasho-90
krokani-85
loboshigaru-83
lucidian-77
merian-79
mugwump-66
orclachi-80
tae'dae-91
taurian-82
trill-83
viscanti-80
tae'dae is best and mugwump was worst, so you can tell it isn't really accurate, some things are worth more than what they say in different situations(like knowing how to fly or something)

Aye, you can't add things up like that, because faster eq or balance is worth more then 1 point, it'd be more like 3 or 5, or maybe even 10. It's all 'fairly' balanced in any case. I'm fine with being an Elfen, I'm ok at hunting, could be much better at it. I'm ok at defending, or at least I would be if I really consentrated on my curing/reflexes And I like my RP as an Elfen, even though Faeling RP would work well too.. *pissed off cause he just discovered how good the faeling sipping is* a Faeling of my Level sipps for like 400 more ego then me, even though they have the same amount of ego... oh well. I'm decent, and I like it.

Tae-dae and Igasho the best races? Mugwumps the worst? No, not really.

That's why we've such huge weaknesses and dodgy constitution, I suppose, to the two most common elements.

You've never seen Kariol's stats back when he was a mugwump knight, then.
Unknown2005-08-29 14:34:02
Mugwumps are statistically balanced. There's just no attacks that fit in WELL enough for their weaknesses. Give Druids a 50/50 heat/lightning attack, and we'll make Mugwumps and Merians cry.
