Does anybody here play around with tarots?
I just did one for Gregori, don't know why, but just went ahead and did it.
These were the results

Past

VII Swords

Present

X Wands reversed

Future

Swords VI

Can anyone help me in deciphering this?
Tenebrae2005-08-31 15:53:01
And this was for Amaru

Past

The Lovers VI reversed

Present

The Empress III reversed

Future

The Hermit IX

What kind of spread were you using, six cards sounds... odd. Also, I'm not really sure this belongs in General?
Tenebrae2005-08-31 15:58:00
Three card spread, past present future, and it is about the rp players
Tsakar2005-08-31 16:12:20
Not personally, but my mate does, will ask her about it if she doesn't post a response herself after she gets home from work
Saran2005-08-31 16:36:46
hmm lemme think
In the past there may have been some thing that made Gregori flee or some general Lone-wolfness
Presently he may be starting to take on too much though cause it's reversed he may be being prevented from getting a role that may lead to him being overburdend
And for the future he may travel or move homes.

For Amaru

Previously she may have been prevented from entering into a relationship
Currently Amaru might be disconnected from a maternal influence or the natural world
And Amaru may go searching one day, externally/internally, or might give guidance to others

the problem is i have no idea about these people so i can't do to much more than this
Tenebrae2005-08-31 16:51:03
Amaru, Amaru, I would need to ask the cards if Amaru is just in his cause. Get ready to decipher this.

You have working with you the Pentacles V, Your near future is the Knight of Cups. Your present is of the Temperance XIV, your change in life, or what will be your topic, is the Queen of Pentacles reversed. Your future, in the end, will be The Chariot VII reversed.

Enjoy deciphering that.

oh and sorry but one last thing

http://www.hisremnant.org/eby/articles/kin.../christmas.html

hehe it's a full article outlining the reasons why those who believe in god SHOULD NOT celebrate Christmas (classic laugh.gif )

mainly because it was originally a pagan/roman/greek party

EDIT: Also because the descriptions of what happened do not match the environment at that time of year
Amaru2005-08-31 16:55:44
I'm sure the article undermines Christianity entirely. And Meowmix, in-game is in-game. Someone throw a real life lovers Tarot at a girl, I bet it doesn't make them unable to harm you.
Saran2005-08-31 16:59:02
actually the article isn't written to bring down christianity, it's by some Priest (or what ever christians call their leaders) is extremely well written citing biblical sources

here is a quote from point 3(the pagan one)
For "Christians" who still may say, "Well, it is just a harmless custom, what can it hurt—and besides it is fun," I shall only ask: How can performing the forbidden rituals of the heathen glorify Jesus Christ? The apostle Paul declared, "But I say, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice to devils, and not to God; and I would not that ye have fellowship with devils. Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and of the table of devils" (I Cor. L0:20-21). The "Christmas tree" along with all the other customs surrounding Christmas is but the modern version of the pagan custom of offering gifts to idols; it is of "the cup of devils". It is not Christian.
Tenebrae2005-08-31 17:00:33
Who knows? Maybe the person loves you instead, and is not willing to let harm come to you?

If you're going to play with Tarot and know little about it, I suggest throwing down standard celtic cross spreads, as they are relatively easy to interpert, and usually you can find some meaning in them.

I used to use celtic cross spreads to generate random NPCs for a tabletop RPG I ran biggrin.gif It worked surprisingly well.

As a literature major, I fell in love with the Tarot, as it creates a metaphor for a situation which you can map the situation to, and by understanding the metaphor you have created, you can expand your understanding of the situation.

How does, in the existance of a perfect omnipotent god who is incapable of sin, Satan/Hitler/other bad people exist? God knew about them and had the ability to end their existance berfore they even started living., and by choosing to allow them to live, he was in fact partly at fault for their sins.

And yeah, tarot is cool. I've got a deck, but i dont know how to read them sad.gif

I use tarot cards instead of dice for determining randomness in tabletop RPGs biggrin.gif I know how to read them well enough for that. It works wonderfully, except sometimes too well. Makes me almost believe there's something special about tarot cards - I mean, I can't decide how a situation will turn out, so I draw a card and get 'Many choices lie before you." Or I decide I really don't care the outcome of something, draw a card, and get "Apathy."

I have just something to say about this, before I go on. God, Allah, is an idea. We like to believe in ideas. That doesn't mean that the ideas really exist. The bible, the torah, the qur'an, they are all off what people said. It is not word for word, and it would be foolish to take it as the exact thing. But still, Lucifer, Hitler, and others can be viewed as not bad by a luciferist, neo-nazi, or a "bad-person lover" or my best friend.... *shrug* it is a matter of perception.

So anyone play Tarok? I picked it up after reading Weiss/Hickman's Darksword series.

On this same token, giving in to the belief there once was a short arabian man by the name of Jesus that was called 'rabbi' and most likely was married (probably to the woman that is known to us as Mary Mag., the much-debated, alleged "Holy Grail"), as well, he was probably no more than five feet tall, had short, dark curly hair, and a short, scrubby beard. As well, his name wasn't Jesus, it was Joshua. Jesus is a greek name, not a Jewish one.

Just noting my appreciation for historical veracity over dogma. Well said.
Gwylifar2005-08-31 18:22:34
Okay, this really needs to go into the Real World, but I'm unclear on one thing. Tenebrae, when you say this is about the "rp players", does that mean players or characters? If it's about characters, shouldn't you devise a system based on the Tarot that's actually available in the game? Make your own deck from index cards and figure out the right meanings for them so everything fits the cards and yet everything that can be is expressible in terms of some combination of cards. A fascinating project.

happy.gif My thanks. And, yea. If someone doesn't move it, I'll probably throw a message at Richter, see if he'll notice it and move it. =\\
