Not sure how it creates problems. It's their choice to choose hunting, and they're told what the downside of choosing it is.

Don't you think that's incredibly selfish?

I have made a pretty valid suggestion--throw in a clan and seperate the guild into two orders, with equal power and chances to get in.

The point I am trying to make is this. The GM is there to serve the needs of the players, not to become a despot. You need to realize what is good for the game. If that means your guild changes for the future, why does that bug you? The gist I am getting is that you want to continue running the guild your way when circumstances have changed.

Ultimately, skills, balance, hack-and-slash, strategy, conflict, PK, and even Role-Play comes secondary to the following. Are the majority of the players entertained. That is the key role, and something all have to take into account.

If you try to setup an "old boys network", you're going to have a lot of problems.

I'm not saying GM and GAs should give up everything, but at the same time, they should be adaptable. It seems the people who are complaining the most about these changes are those who have a high level of political power who disagree with the gods and the players wishes, and aren't as willing to adapt.

You hit the nail right on the head. This is a GAME, first and foremost, before everything else. Games are meant to be fun, and if a game is not fun, it is not fulfilling its purpose. And most people - note that I say most, not all, because some people might actually enjoy it, though I wouldn't - most people wouldn't enjoy playing a role where they are constantly placed below the other people in the guild just based on a skill choice. And this will lead most people to do one of two things: a) quit the guild and find another that doesn't treat Hunters like second-rate members or B) not take Hunting and let the skillset and the work of the coders vanish into oblivion. I think we can all agree that neither outcome is positive.

Being annoyed is one thing, but going so far as to start separating and defining elites and second-rate members within a guild is just pathetic. One of the reasons why Achaea went to houses because there were so many damn elitism in guilds. I honestly don't see anything good that can come about with having something like this in Lusternia. There is a reason why we get class upon joining the guild, so we don't have to put up with craps like they had in Achaea. If you're going to implement requirements like needing to follow Totems to advance in the guild, you're only alienating Hunters in your guild, not to mention send out a bad message to newbies and novices. DON'T TAKE HUNTING OR YOU'LL NEVER BE AMOUNT TO ANYTHING IN THE GUILD BECAUSE WE HATE HUNTING!

It's a bit complicated issue.

See, Estarra's suggestion makes sense. Those warriors who choose hunting over rituals/totems really are more detached from the city/commune. Necromancy requires Megalith power. Tracking, I suppose, uses any power. So they are not connected to the city in any real way. It's like you have their word for it, and that's it.

On the other hand, I agree that such separating isn't fair.

I think there are ways to deal with it. Hunters might be neglected now (though it's not really true when prominent people from the guild take on hunting biggrin.gif ) but in the future, when they prove their loyalty, it's gonna change. Hunting is useful, they are useful, they are needed.

And there's always rogue path. Survivalists. But still, I don't know if it's feasible in Lusternia, even for hunters.

Separate path in the guild for hunters... it can work out.
I also always say you create the rp, not the other way around. It's just that consistency might take a hit now.

Right, I think everyone has expressed their opinion by now, and had quite enough opportunity to complain about the new skill. Further problems can be settled IC where they belong.
