Magnagora has a total of 6.222 spikes in the necromantate...
New Celest has a total of 83.987 supplicants worshipping...
How the NIL is this possible? This goes beyond a minor imbalance, Magnagora would be the last anyone could accuse of laziness. It's already common knowledge that supplicants can be attainted by every newbie in 3 minutes, while spiking requires much more time and a minimum of tankiness, but this difference is HUGE...

We've been hitting the spikes with converted Demon Lords for quite a while...
Thorgal2005-09-04 12:42:14
Magnagora never even reached 15K spikes far as I know, under whatever circumstances, so no...that's not the reason.
Shamarah2005-09-04 13:13:46
Maybe the parts for the spike quest take longer to respawn?
Or maybe just because Celest always has novices doing the supplicants quest because it's easier?

We had about 9000 spikes when you guys began your relentless assault on Nil. That being said, I don't know much about the supplicant quest, but here are some characteristics of the spike quest:
You need to be able to kill spectres, and they also need to respawn.
If you clear the spectre isles from start to finish, that's about 11 spikes or so.
People are almost always on top of the spectre quest as far as I've noticed. The only difference is that recently Glomdorings have also been doing it. I'm not sure if they always bring the spectre corpses in for the spikes, though.
Nevertheless... it's a pretty big gap. Celest probably alawys has novices doing it becaues easier and safer. Also, what's the respawn rate on quest items? As long as it is instantaneous, you will always have the advantange.

I think it's not so long ago that the Necromandate fall whereas it's been some time since the Star last fell.. I could be wrong, but I think it's mainly that we had more time to build up since that last total destruction.
Edit: In Celest, novices can do the quest and mostly to only them doing it because it's not worth it for the rest of us.
Magnagora: I've hunted spectres right after I got out of Newton, so I wouldn't say it's impossible for newbies to do (Viscanti even get lvl 3 reggen there, all I needed was puella to do it, not even hard sipping )
Plus, I hunted spectres until level 78, they are very good experience, gold and Karma with the spiking quest, so I can imagine quite a few high level people in Magnagora that still spike.. now tell me one high level Celestian that still does the sand quest on a regular basis.

I think it takes around half an hour or an hour for the sands to respawn..

How many supplicants do you yield each time you do the quest? Also, Aesyra, I know that -some- novices are capable of doing the quest right after Newton, but keep in mind that you are experienced and know what you are doing. Most novices don't. On the other hand I'm (assuming) that the supplicant quest is do-able by novices all around.

When I was hunting spectres.. I had nothing, no sipper no reflexes no experience in mudding. I started at zero and was able to do it.
Sands.. -I- think it's only 5 a round, Thorgal claims it's 10.. so no clue.
I haven't done that quest very often either but I'd say the respawn rate is about the same as spectres. (If it's only 5 sands a round then maybe faster, but you guys got 50 spectres..)

I haven't done it in a while, but if you gather all sands, I think you can run around with eight...but I've only ever brought more than four sands back to Celest once. Then you still have to find the kinsman, and I think some of them walk around on the citywalls, who aren't accessible last time I checked, because the towers are locked.
Shiri2005-09-04 14:02:07
It's 10. The problem is, the second level seems to repop a lot slower than the first...or something. That was just my impression when I was doing the quest way back when as Shiri though.
Unknown2005-09-04 14:04:33
When I did the quest, I noticed every kinsman you bring turns into two supplicants, but even so, its good work on Celest's part.
Nice work you guys!
Edit: Meanwhile, my pixie didn't add any to the flames of Glinshari. Oh wait, there we go. Maybe its every second pixie.

1 Kinman, kinwoman, or child is 1 supplicant. Not 2. I'm sure of this...
Unknown2005-09-04 14:10:22
It was just something odd I noticed, maybe I miscounted or something.
Unknown2005-09-04 14:16:30
Yeah, I thought I found this odd because I saw it a couple of times. I just assumed it was meant to work that way:

surrounded by a protective glow.
You see a single exit leading northeast.
Your karma rises in response to your deeds.
A kinswoman of New Celest hands you a small bag of gold.

That might explain it then, since I just did some quick math. And having 83k supplicants should really be damn near impossible. Because ignoring all the lost of supplicants over the months, from decay, supernal deaths, etc. It should only have been possible to have 79200. If you figure that Celest added 10 supplicant every hour since the game begun.
Here's the simple math I used:
10 supplicants * 24 hours in a day = 240
240 supplicants * 30 days in a month(rough estimate) = 7200
7200 supplicants * 11 months since the game started = 79200
Now obviously the days are a little off since I didn't feel like counting the exact days in each month from October to September. But that is a rough estimate and it is assuming the best conditions, which I know are impossible. Since if everything was equal, Celest would have had less than 70k with their efforts. It also must be noted that Celest didn't receive their star until a month or so after the game started.

Hmmm.
Lisaera2005-09-04 14:46:06
Aha! I've been trying to figure out if there was something wrong with that quest for a little while now. Yes, you got two supplicants instead of one. This has now been fixed.
Kayde2005-09-04 14:46:54
Has the number of supplicants they have been adjusted as well?
Unknown2005-09-04 14:50:35
Ooo, we'll take half as a finders fee!
I bet supplicants burn very well, with all those robes and whatnot.
