Give us the ability to go into Newton Caverns, but cannot perform *any* aggressive action there at all? Would be nice to go in to try and speak to novices who seem to have problems with tells and other things without having to bug guides.
Lisaera2005-09-05 03:34:13
Guides are there to be bugged, they need to be made to do more anyway! *peer Guides*
Xenthos2005-09-05 03:34:36
I feel bad about bugging them though. sad.gif Whether we're supposed to or not.

Edit: And Spindle just disappeared wink.gif
Sylphas2005-09-05 04:04:53
I'd be cool with that, if all you could do was move, say, and tell.
Xenthos2005-09-05 04:07:26
We'd need some way to get through the portal to higher levels... actually, probably not, those who are having issues will only be on the lower end anyways. And that limits us from picking up quest items and such too, or stealing gold and corpses. (But let us keep using our guild/city/clan channels too).

So good idea. Let us move and do all communication and nothing else. smile.gif
Sylphas2005-09-05 04:13:48
Yeah, communication is fine. Didn't feel like listing them all. But it would suck to have people in there puellaing novices and such to powerlevel them through quests and bashing or something.

Didn't even think of this. Guess it comes of me not having skills of this type. Would definitely have to be disabled.

Edit: All of which means, it'd take a fair bit of effort to code, so probably isn't going to happen (any time soon, at least).

There would still be people that would lead the novice around and say "Do this.. this and this" and BAM they get the honours lines..

I don't really need it that much.. It would be useful to go and haul some novices out that feel like not responding though.

I can just tell them every single step anyways if I felt like spoiling it (instead, I try to give them a few hints and figure as much of it out themselves as possible)... and since I won't be able to enter or follow, we can't go through the portal to the higher levels.

I like the Newton Caves being cut off completely from non-newbies, regardless of who they are. The Caves are a place where Newbies don't feel intimidated by people who are more experienced than them - everyone's a newbie there. Meet a random person in the caves? They're bound to know just as little as you about what the heck they're doing biggrin.gif In the Caves, newbies can and do help other newbies. If someone has a question and doesnt' want to bother a random person they see bashing finks next to them? They can ask on NEWBIE, on GNT, or they can send tells to specific people who offered help in the past. I don't think any guild discourages questions from newbies, and all the one's I've made alts in very much encourage such questions in a rather friendly manner.

This doesn't help one of my newbies who I eventually had to ask a different newbie to go over and help him... he wasn't able to respond to tells even being told how to do it for some reason, once he had face-to-face help he managed to figure it out. *shrug*

And this is actually the event that spawned this post smile.gif

I agree with this. If I'm running around in the newbie areas I don't want high ranking people there.

And judging from some of the comments made trying to recruit people on NEWBIE.. we really don't need the GAs running around telling them how wonderful the opposing team is. ... just my opinion but when someone answers a novice's question with something that states "Celest blows Taint is better" .. it makes me want to harm them in the most painful way possible or at least have them muted for a while.
Sylphas2005-09-05 05:21:00
I just do that during my tours of the Seren. Already got one Shadowdancer converted to Moon. biggrin.gif

You don't teach your newbies how to use GNT in their initial welcoming? If they can speak on GNT, I find they nearly always do so when they are trying to talk to someone in the guild and do not know how to use tells yet. Then when they try to have a conversation with you through GNT when you are talking in TELLs, you tell them that they can speak to you more privately if they wish . :shrugs:
Xenthos2005-09-05 05:36:00
Yeah, we do. And for some reason, it didn't work.

Scrolling up:
QUOTE(Me)
You tell Wyrm *, Disciple of the Way, "Hmm? You can reply using "TELL XENTHOS Hi there"."

Wait some time, nothing (even though with QW I can see he's doing stuff), eventually ask a different novice to help, he walks up to the fellow and a few moments later I get a tell back. I can't really explain it.

Agreed.
It's like a newbie enclave.
I like it the way it is and I don't think anything needs changing.

i just found out that wolves can go into newton caverns, although they can't travel through any portals.
that may be of use.

i'm not shure if it's a bug or not, same as how wolves can translate when listening to people.
Anisu2005-09-06 12:11:23
If you really have such a big problem with newbies not responding to you, you could always suggest to make a function callled GUILD NEWBIESUMMON that will cause them to be thrown in a certain room in the Guildhall. (maybe restrict it to 1 time a newbie so it won't be abused for a summon/teleport)

Stay out of Newtons though, it's the only place our novices can feel safe from all the political nonesense we spread tongue.gif

This is a decent idea, too... allow you to guildsummon a novice under level 5 to the guild tutor in your guild, *IF* you are already standing there. This gets around the "summon them to a guildhall and teleport to them" thing.
Unknown2005-09-07 00:54:35
Maybe something that would let you summon a newbie to a specific room in the guildhall, that had some kind of barrier that let only non-newbies pass through, and another command to send them back where they got summoned from. So if you need to talk to a newbie, you could summon them to you, but you couldn't use it to save them from being attacked in an enemy city or something, since they would be sent right back where they were.
