And I'm sure a 360 will continue working far longer than an old used XBox will. Just like I'd much rather at this point buy a PS2 to play my PS1 games on, because it's more likely to be in far better condition.

New systems aren't only made to make prettier games; powerful processors and more memory will expand possibilities.
And on what Acrune said, the free version of Live is supposed to allow you to play only on weekends.

Never heard that before, which is interesting, because I've been following OXM, xbox.com, and some other xbox magazine. Where'd you hear that, out of curiosity?
Also, the 'rumor mole' of OXM is saying that 360 could be coming out November 15th, that is exactly 4 years after the first xbox came out. Also, this same 'mole' says the following on backwards compatibility: "By the time the system ships in November, Rumor Mole has heard that anywhere from five to 20 games will be supported. Between zero to five of those could be on the hard drives shipping with the pro system. The others would then be available for download through Xbox Live Marketplace."
I'm excited for this to come out, can you tell?
Sylphas2005-09-10 03:42:51
I'm more excited about the Revolution, actually. I'll probably never actually own an xbox of any sort, and just play Halo at friends.

All of those Square games (Even Secret of Evermore).. Zelda..

I think I read that on IGN or an Xbox site. I can't remember.
EDIT: Nevermind, when I read that you can play games, the text meant that you could play downloadable games.

Don't think I'm gonna bother with one of the new consoles until they come down in price. I rarely play my GC/PS2 so it's not worth it.
Eyod2005-09-11 03:45:37
i'd be surprised if they ever went down majorly in price, apparently sony loses a small amount of money for every P3 it produces.
Sylphas2005-09-11 04:25:59
Pure speculation on my part:
They're using the best tech they can, and by the time the price on components has fallen enough to matter, there's not enough competition to lower prices, especially if that means they start to make a profit. I expect they'll come down some, but not much, until the next generation of consoles hit.
As it is, they seem to like selling the hardware at a loss, and making it up on game sales. For that to work, they need a huge console base, and enough great games to make it worth it. At the prices they're going for now, that's going to get harder and harder to pull off, I think.
Of course, I could be completely and utterly wrong.

If they sold consoles for a reasonable profit, they wouldn't sell, and they'd be destroyed by the competition.
Sylphas2005-09-11 04:57:18
If they keep selling at a loss though, and their games are outclassed by another system, they're quickly going to start losing money.
Acrune2005-09-12 04:08:00
I don't really think any system's games are really outclassed by any others at the moment.
Sylphas2005-09-12 04:14:26
Not at the moment, but for a long time Xbox didn't have much, and Gamecube has been slow but steady. They all work differently, and if they stumble, they're going to go down hard, the tighter their profit margin gets.
Eyod2005-09-12 08:59:05
xbox also had a problem with the cost of their games, you could almost get two and half play station games for an xbox game
Torak2005-09-12 09:54:43
No one buys xbox games anyways. All you do is buy a 10-20$ mod and download all the games . There is also a way you can link it to your PC and get free online play too. Another thing I find really intresting about them pushing new consoles so soon is they haven't stretched the limits of the ones they have currently.
Eyod2005-09-12 12:02:01
with Xbox and Sony it's because they want to be THE entertainment station in the house, they want to be the one box everyone owns for watching DVD to listening to music and playing games, this is more true for sony, look at the PSP.
Sylphas2005-09-12 16:32:09
I HATE that attitude. I'd rather have everything seperate, so it's easier to get what I want. I already have a CD player, a DVD player, an MP3 player, and I can upgrade and manage those a lot more easily when they're not my goddamn game console. I want a console for playing games, not for running my life.

Eyod2005-09-13 05:56:43
