If someone half your height, and a ninth grader when you are an junior tells you that she loves you (you known each other for a couple weeks) and you tell her that you would tell her that you like her when you find a word for it (As you used the word too much) and she takes it the wrong way, what the hell can you say so you don't break her heart?

lets see.. not exactly half, but I am over two meters tall, 6' 5", and she is 4' something...

I'm going to pull the usual adult junk here, and say she doesn't -really- love you, she just thinks she does.

So, if she's the usual 9th grader, with all these new and crazy feelings, you should let her down easy. But man, do let her down. I was too nice in high school to some girls, and they were crazy about me for far, far too long. Imagine if I had let them down, they could have moved on years ago. It's sad to think that I've contributed to wasting a few years of her life.

While parts of the above post make me laugh and titter with disbelief.

However, I find broken hearts heal quicker when they think they don't have a chance. Tell her your gay or something. Always worked for my friends. <3

Though I must point out, the title of the thread sounded very shallow... very thirteen years old.

I know. But, believe it or not, I don't act it. At least, not in public. So I always had this girl or that girl thinking they had a chance. Anyway. And, oft times, I had friends who had girls liking them, but they didn't like them back - versus saying, "No, you're a fat ugly gross mutt", they instead would say, "I'm sorry Sarah.. I'm gay." With me leaning on their shoulder looking all like I was ready to gnaw on his neck and/or ear.

I'm a strong supporter of shallow dating. If you can't get over how someone looks, why try and see if you fall in love with their personality? It leads to just a gross situation in general.

Anyway, enough of that hijack. Honestly, being as nice as possible is the best thing. Point out that you're not far from leaving for college. Be nice, don't be cruel - but point out there isn't a chance.

If the girl's got her heart set on being 'in love' with you, no matter how you break it, it's going to hurt her like hell (either her pride, or her heart - it might take her a while to figure out which). The only way to do it is with honesty and tact.

I still think a white lie won't hurt. It'll hurt less the quicker she gets over you - a lot of girls will take "you're not my type" or "I'm not interested" or "you're too young for me" as her just needing to fight harder for you.

Let her know, no is no, and that it's more than just her. You can't take/don't want a serious relationship, she's just a kid, her mother and/or father would kill you, your mother would kill you, your gay friend would kill you. Come up with something.

You're not available, and you won't be available. She'll get over you quicker, if there's no chance.

I wouldn't say get over. I'd say she's more likely to set her sights elsewhere and realise our boy here is not the one to latch onto. I have such nice opinions of teenage girls. *does the I'm-not-a-teen-anymore dance*

Pros: You'll get to smash box
She will get the idea and you will either get to smash MORE box, or she'll leave you alone

Cons: you'll be labelled an asshole by her friends, but a lot of girls LIKE the badboy thing, so go with it and smash all her friends' boxes too, so its more of a pro than a con
