What is the point of keeping a 'Balance'?

In contrast: When one side is winning in SC, for balance, skill, luck, or whatever reasons, the game ends, everything restarts. Can't have that here.

Thus we can't have one side really 'win once and for all' (though I would like it if we could). Thus we have the big question: what DO we do when one side is winning?

I wasn't trying to close it, I was trying to see if she got the answer she needed, so that we could... answer it.

Can I break your legs?

WHY! Does everyone think I'm a girl!?

And yes, it did answer my question for the most part... Though I think an unbalanced Lusternia would be just as fun as the balanced one... I wouldn't mind playin the underdog if we were thrown a bone now and then to throw the unbalancedness a different way...

I believe our definition of "balance" is probably different - there is balance in real life, at least to a degree.  And where there isn't balance (Say, environment (greenpeace, Julia Butterfly Hill, etc) vs Industrialism (Loggers, strip-miners, whalers, Bush), we are seeing the cost of it.  Slowly the environment is dieing - I can't say many of us are too pleased with it.

Although Lusternia seems to pride itself on balance, and the maintaining of it.  Night vs Sun, Light vs Darkness.  Iunno.  It's too early for me to think.

And, Richter, Protoss were superior.  Dark Archons > all.

OMG OMG OMG!!! Starcraft/broodwar players? I'm in love! wub.gif

I was totally addicted to Starcraft, hmm havn't played it in a few years, college got in the way, and now Lusternia, damn you lusternia I luv ya, but you stold Starcraft from my avalible timeslot! crying.gif crying.gif oh, and ninja.gif

Life isn't always balanced, and neither is Lusternia, but the Admins try to always keep it fair to all sides; or at least comperable, though not always 'even' cause even is boring.

Find 75 builders.

Each one makes 3 rooms.

Bam, city COMPLETE.

and BAM city=crap

no thank you I don't need crappy cities, I like how nice Lusternia is.

Edit- do you really thing 75 people could even be on a team working on the same idea? no, even 20 people would have major problems with that

I could imagine major headaches having 20-75 people working on one area. Best team is one or two, one to build the place (easy and quick) and one to write the descriptions for everything (hard and time consuming, doubly so if the writer isn't of the creative writing sort)

When I used to build MUDs I could do a full 100 room area in about two or three days... five if I took my time... Its not that tough, and the rooms were pretty nice... I did a couple forests, one city that was sorta ancient china-ish with multi level temples and stuff that was pretty cool... The thing I always had trouble with was learning how to set in the Mobs right... they'd always end up wrong in so many ways I'd have to holler at someone else to come show me what I did wrong...

That said, IRE's worlds are much bigger than anything I ever built, and the MUDs I built were just the K weasel, weasel dies kinda games, nothing as interesting as Lusternia... Still, building rooms can't be horribly more complicated here, its still about the same deal, the coding is just a few hundred times more frustrating biggrin.gif

The simple reason why Lusternia has to be balanced and real life isn't and doesn't have to be, is because in Lusternia, the skills are made for us, and in real life the 'players' make the skills/technology... I.e in real life, the players are the builders, if life is 'unbalanced' it's the 'players' own fault for not working hard enough at their skills/technology. In lusternia, if the skills/technology is unbalanced, it is NOT the fault of the players nor can they do anything about it.

The most balanced world is one in which everyone looks out for themselves... take that socialists.

Hmm... That brings up an idea for an interesting Mud... Tough to pull off though... Like... Insanely tough to pull off.... Be fun as hell though... Ah well

It's balanced, because it's a game. As has been said, when things are unbalanced, no one wants to be on the loosing side of the equation.

Balance is maintained, so that people are happy, and keep playing. Balance is to keep up the player base, and encourage it to grow.
