Oh, and the reason that they're not releasing it to all major theatres is that A. they make most of their money on the DVD's B. they want to forestall people recording the dvd and selling bootleg copies C. they're hoping that the "special edition" DVD's will sell better because people won't have spent money on going to the movie itself too.
They had an interesting survey sent out that talked about a lot of these things as well as how much you'd be interested in paying if there were additional packaged items with the dvd and what items should be packaged. Obviously they got enough response to validate going straight to dvd.

I just want to reiterate, Spirits Within made me want to slit my wrists. This is a bad thing. So they tell me at least.
In all honesty, the movie itself wasn't that bad; it's just that I was expecting something related to one of the FF storylines in some way, and this wasn't.

Spirits Within was NOT what people have come to expect of Final Fantasy. It was what, 2 hours or so? FF games have 20+ hours of story. You just can't fit a normal FF plot into a standard size movie, and trying to do it turns it into crap.

I hated Final Fantasy 9 with the utmost passion and detestment. I still beat it, BUT THATS ALL I DID. I played it for about 10 hours, and beat Kuja or Kujo, or Kuhja, or WTF HIS NAME IS, and that was that. I never once started a new game, or tried for the extra stuff. I WAS SO ANGRY.
Final Fantasy 6, 7, 8 and X, however, make me very happy.
And of course the first one. OMFG fear my elite Knight, Ninja, Master, and Red Wizard Crew of KILLING STUFF DEAD.

It is actually VobSub and it gets included if you grab the Kazaa Lite Mega Codec Pack (Ignore the Kazaa Lite tag - nothing illegal or spywarish about it). The codec pack takes care of two things - virtually all the codecs you will ever need to play video files, as well as Media Player Classic, which pound for pound does is the best movie player in existence. Well I still use WMP10 but MPC does have its good points that are nice.

How can anyone like 8? I can't even pay attention to it long enough to get through the Fire Cavern most times I try. (But it doesn't really matter because Zelda > Final Fantasy anyway).
