Squall didn't have much substance though..Â

Squall was my idol.
"Whatever" attitude was awesome.
Now, I'm not really that familiar with American subcultures, but... was Squall emo?
EDIT: I can agree that too many characters in FF8 were kind of dull.
Unknown2005-09-15 03:50:13
Squall was what I like to call "whiny emo prissy boy", I'm sorry, I have never liked a Final Fantasy protagonist. Ever. Except for Locke, if you consider him the protagonist of 6. Best FF - none. Chrono Trigger beats all other Square games up and down the block. Nasty Elitist mode - off.

Wait until Mistwalker (Gaming company by FF producer, I believe) starts shelling out games. He's already started commenting on his protagonists and how they'll be different.
Edit: Advent Children is almost done downloading. I had closed it earlier since I went to work and didn't want people whining about uploads slowing down the internet.

Never even heard of it until now and I know it's going to suck. *Nod*
And FF3/6 didn't really have a 'main' protagonist.

Doubtful. This guy fathered the Final Fantasy series and both games have the musical, design, and art creators (Toriyama is still alive??) of Chrono Trigger (and various other Square games). Mistwalker is like.. a baby Squaresoft waiting to kick ass.

8 had a y story and the characters were crap.
On the upside, I loved the setting, the Ragnorak is the most kickass airship ever, the card game was decent fun, and the characters looked pretty, at least. Oh, and the draw mechanic was interesting and novel, even if it did suck.

Agreed on all points with Sylphas. The card game SO kicked 9's arse. I can't even remember the name of 9's one it was that bad.
Unknown2005-09-15 06:59:48
Whoa... this movie is freakin' amazing. Oh man..
Yes, I just watched it.

Ialie2005-09-15 07:00:30
So the movie is out? *RUNS TO GO BUY IT*
Unknown2005-09-15 07:11:03
It isn't out. I'm just a goof and downloaded it to watch.

Yeah I hated 8 too.
Ugh. I get the shudders when I think about it. I use the game as a coaster now.
Sylphas2005-09-15 09:26:25
I'm trying (meaning I have it started and plan on finishing it) to go through it again with a no-exp game, just for the hell of it, and because I lost my end of disc 3 save. This is most likely because it's something I've never tried, and I lent 7 to a friend.

I'm tellin' you. If you have ANY computer knowledge just use BitLord and download the movie. It's like 700mb, but it's well worth it.

Gasp, yes it did. It's the half-esper, Terra. But what I liked about VI is that, indeed, no single character was the focal point of the story, but all of them were. Terra was the most focused upon, though.
That's because her and Celes kicked.
Nyla2005-09-15 21:10:53
I hated Chrono Trigger
FF9 was ten times better than FF8, but 7 & 10 were the best

The thing I liked best about 9, I think, is that each character didn't become a carbon copy of each other. Differing in appearance and limit break is BORING.
7 suffered from this, but I can overlook that because it's an awesome game. 10 got that in end-game, which I can forgive, and simply skip. 6 I can play through without equipping Espers, etc.
Though for some reason I don't mind job systems quite as much.

So, Vincent is amazing. God damn. How kickass was he in that flick? Yeesh. Now I'm salivating over Dirge of Cerberus. *sigh* I hate waiting for things! I want to find out more about Lucrecia!
