Zack. I don't remember if he was shown in the game, but he's the guy Cloud pretended to be.

I think he was - he's the one who Cloud got the sword from. <3

If you ever went back to Nibelheim you saw a few flashbacks with him in it.

Just watched the movie. My impressions?

I could complain that the plot was rather simple (the bad guys' motivations were clear from the start) and the movie was too Cloud-centric (even the Turks appeared more often than non-Cloud team members, with an exception of Tifa - maybe).

But I can't. Because Advent Children simply rocks. By rocks I mean it's OMFGXFWRIOA Awesome. Almost as good as the original game. cool.gif

The Turks have their own cell phone game too. smile.gif

The movie made me love the Turks though. If they ever remake FF7 (I'd like 6 though) it'd be a BIG hit.. again.

If you are in the San Fransico area, The Metreon is playing Advent Children in the Playstation store.

*drool* Its got some wierd dialogue though.

I didn't understand most of what you were all talking about, since I've only played X and X-2 (I can't seem to find any PAL versions of other games in Australia for PS2)... But someone said Immeteria on the last page and I was like "Yeah.. I hate those things. RNG hates me," because of the Penultimate Fantasy Airship on Kingdom of Loathing.

One additional thought (gah, I'm writting this at 4 am... I need help). Mild spoilers (nothing serious) and some cynism to follow.

If for some reason you don't like mild spoilers or cynical opinins, do not copy this text to a notepad.

One thing the movie ruined almost completely was the drama of Aeris' death. We are unsure about her fate in the game - yeah, we speculate that it was her that mobilised the Life Stream to save the planet from the meteor, but it was just speculations (about her hand reaching towards Cloud at the end, it might have been simply a hallucination - Tifa doesn't see it, for example). In the movie her spirit is actively helping the alive part of the crew, and we see her having a flowerbed in the afterlife and being with her boyfriend Zack, generally being happy, despite not being very alive.
But hey, maybe it's a good thing - I have seen many emotional people be depressed after seeing their favourity lego-girl-in-pink die to a lego-prettyboy-in-black in the game (I didn't hear about suicide attempts, but I wouldn't be surprised if some happened). It's probably a balm to their silly romantical hearts, pfft. tongue.gif

EDIT: Whatever. It won't be smaller than it is.

I must be an old fogey. I've never played a Final Fantasy Game nor would get any of the references.

How is this possible? ninja.gif (Not that the games are godly or anything)

Yeah...I was depressed. I cried at the ending too, but that was because I misunderstood what was going on. (I was like 10-11, gimme a break. tongue.gif)

Probably because I'm going to turn 36 shortly before Christmas. Games I play would exclusively be computer games, and I pretty much have not played this generation's console games. The last console games I played were probably an old-time sega (the one before genesis).

X-Box, Playstation, Nintendo, whatever--all beneath my pop-culture radar.

FF 7 was on PC too.

As for Shiri - I'd probably be depressed too. If I didn't hear about Aeris' death 4+ years before even playing the game - so I got used to it, I knew she's going to die as soon as I've seen her in the intro.

Now I'm going to ramble. I'm practically semi-sleeping by now, so be ready to experience a badly-written stream of consciousness.
This reminds me of a Polish poet, Kochanowski (pronounced Kohanovskey - I think). He was depressed when his youngest daughter (3 years or so) died, and made a bunch of 13 or 16 poems dedicated to her. Inside them, he verges on blasphemy against the Church (it was the 16th century, he could get severely punished on that!), not being sure what happened to her and even doubting is there any afterlife at all - but at the last one he writes about the vision he had, when his dead mother visits him in a dream with the little girl on her hands, saying that she is happy in Heaven as she didn't have a chance to experience the real cruelty of the world - wars, famine etc.

Yes, I am weird.

ok...
so i just finished watching the movie for the third time.

i didn't even finish ffvii(got it two years ago, started playing then something new came out and got distracted) but i have to emote worthy.gif
You have to love the entire bahumut scene, especially the realitic way that all of the team members help cloud get high enough with out plumeting to their deaths (cid and barret are the exception) and then cloud surviving.

Though my friends wanted cloud to die.

also i think that Spirits Within was ok, but you kinda had to understand the whole life force thing that was 9 if you wanted to understand the movie easily as that was kinda similar.

hmm oh yeah... WE NEED MORE RPGS. damn most of the games that you see now are action (which can be fun), shooters, or racers. The only good rpg thats come out recently (that i've seen) is Shadow Hearts 2 (Suikoden was lame cause your ship is too slow and the encounter rate high) Yuri is fun. Baiten Kaitos is alright but the maps are a little annoying and the twist is weird.

I think you can consider me one of your friends then.
However, I have a theory that Aeris and Zack simply didn't want Cloud to be with them - not dead, but at the same "afterlife place" inside the Lifestream as they are, for one or both of the reasons:
1. Aeris is simply a goody-two-shoes, as for Zack he simply didn't want to have others who will try to hit on her - that explains the look on his face during the last scene
2. (more likely) Cloud is so boring and angsty that they didn't want him to spoil their parties with Tellah, Galuf, Shadow, Leo and whomever else died in FF series
Saran2005-09-22 13:47:02
hooray for materia, *plots to try and annoy the divine into adding personal materia for us bwahahaha*

also this movie makes me think that the whole choice of who cloud likes pointless as the movie seems to show that he ends up with tifa regardless.

aww now i wanna play one of those ff muds, but eww they aren't as good as here

RPGs are lame these days. I just bought and beat a section of Radiata Stories and the ending is so empty. Maybe if I care to replay it with my beefed up characters and get all 177 characters I'll get something worthwhile, but it still seems odd. Thankfully the Wild ARMs remake is coming out next month and I'll probably borrow Eternal Mana from a friend before the second comes out.

I think it'll pick up someday (When I'm designing games at 30 when I move up in wherever I work. ninja.gif), but for now there isn't much innovation anmore.

Suikoden owns! Just.. not 4 (Which I won't buy until it's like $10 since I played the other 3 and LUFF them.). Five will be nice though and when all of these Tales games come to the U.S. (And UK) we'll once again have some great games to play.

I might go buy the .hack series now that it's cheap and maybe Xenosaga when it drops another $10 (It isn't even worth $30 if it's as short as its former).

Is Advent Children available in English, or am I forced to read subtitles?
