I'm just curious, but, Lisaera had said on the forums that Tracking supposedly was nicer to those warriors who wanted to go rogue, and in the announce post, it even states that rogue warriors with tracking are known as mercenaries..
so.. one would think this meant that rogue trackers woud be plausible, as they wouldn't lose anything... wrong.
It seems that trackers without a city/commune cannot request a dog at a kennel. Now, as it seems, a Seren can easily request a wolf at the Glomdoring kennels, but a Tracker without a city/commune cannot request a dog period.
Is this the way its supposed to be? Because, as it stands, with a few of the tracker's nice abilities requiring their hunting companion, isn't it essentially the same as having the ability require nexus power? I had thought the reason it didn't require power, unlike ecology, was so that a rogue tracker WAS plausible.. this seems to shatter that perception..
So.. i'm just curious if this is a oversight, because many signs seemed to be pointing towards rogue trackers being unshafted by their rogue status.

It'd mean rogues wising up real fast.
Jairdan2005-09-10 08:49:24
Just seems cruel to imply that rogue trackers were plausible, then not mention that if you don't belong to a city/commune, you can't get a hunting companion.
Like.. surprise! >.<
Like.. surprise! >.<
Thorgal2005-09-10 09:59:32
Traps are the most important feature of tracking really, despite the name.
Jairdan2005-09-10 10:06:44
Well, yeah, but still, the HuntingCompanion is there with non-PK uses, and even for the RP... it just seems odd.. because there isn't really any justification for losing the dog. I mean.. if a Seren can request from Glom kennels... obviously they aren't that picky about who they give dogs to, so I don't see why affiliation has anything to do with if you can have a hunting companion or not. At least with Nexus Power it makes sense.. but in this case.. it just doesn't.

Since you have to join a guild to get Hunting in the first place...
Just be veeeery careful.

The reason probably deals with the ability to easily raid secure locations and rob unprepared guildhalls and stores. I doubt that rogues are intended to be able to do this, since every other theft-type ability in the game requires being a member of a city/commune and is thus open to regulation by that group.

Estarra! Can we get a rouge kennel in Deepnight?

Ugh! Richter, you whinge about your and you're, and here you are doing the biggest one of them all! Rouge is a color, damnit! Rogue is a spy/thief/adventurer/whatever.
GET IT RIGHT!

he might be wanting a rouge rogue kennel.
i'd like that, it'd make deepnight seem a whole more step complete, of course, you can't make hunting companions change planes, so it'd be useless except in aether.
Soll2005-09-10 15:15:45
You can't just make them follow when you portal exit? I'm sure you can...
Taika2005-09-10 15:39:11
You can.

oh. i'm not high enough in tracking to have gotten the ability to order them to follow then.
Genos2005-09-10 15:46:08
If you have a hunting companion, you can order it to follow you. Just read HELP DENIZENS, it gives you a list of abilities for all creatures that are loyal to you.

i tried that before and it didn't work. i just found out that it was because Daganev's wolf was in the same location.
Genos2005-09-10 15:58:19
That's why I made a variable to make "wolf" whatever my wolf's number is, I always hated that on otehr characters because I would always forget and get frustrated.
Hajamin2005-09-10 16:40:54
Very simple to explain, it's a bug that a Seren can request a wolf from Glomdoring.
Thorgal explained it perfectly, traps are the main part of tracking.

Retitle it to Trapping then?
Jairdan2005-09-10 17:52:22
Meh.
*puts his $ away*
So much for spending money on a new char.
I was really looking foward to a rogue tracker, but without a hunting companion, it loses one of the coolest parts for me. Oh well. I need clothes anyway

I was thinking about this a few days ago, good to see it brought up. If rogues don't have the ability to get a dog/whatever somewhere (maybe a kennel somewhere on Avechna's Peak with all the other miscellany? They could have rotweillers instead of golden retriever/bloodhound/whatev), then... meh, half-formed plans of mercenarydom:
