I just wanna know why they called it Tracking if its actually Trapping, with a bit of tracking on the side... and when you go rogue, its not Tracking at all. (well, except for the ability to Stalk, but, meh)
Unknown2005-09-11 03:50:08
Why is it called magic if it in no way augments your ability to use magic?
Why is it called environment if it doesn't let you join PETA and set up nature preverves?
HUH?!

Guido made a funny.
Alger2005-09-11 04:04:36
Guido do you even have a clue to what the skills in those respective trees do?
Erion, you should answer Jairdans question, why is the skillset then called tracking?

Not really!

Because Lusternia is geared against rogues and those people who arn't rogues and get a puppy would be trackers, the rogues without them would have intended to be the minority.
Jairdan2005-09-11 04:43:59
I understand that Lusternia is anti-rogue, however, in both the announce post -and- posts on the forum, one of the points of the skill seemed to be that it was pro-rogue. That is the only reason I'm curious.. if they had not once mentioned rogues, it wouldn't be an issue.. but they seemed to make a point out of it.
Hajamin2005-09-11 05:38:33
It is still very viable, as the combat aspect of tracking are the traps. Hence warriors with tracking that go rogue are not called Trackers, they are called.... Mercenaries.
Taika2005-09-11 05:43:26
Game, Set, and Match.
Athana2005-09-11 05:44:35
Are warriors the only archetype meant to be rogue-friendly?

Warriors with Tracking who don't go rogue still aren't called Trackers.. they're called Serenguard, Ebonguard, Paladins, or Ur'Guard... so does that mean they shouldn't be able to track? Cause if the fact they're called Mercenaries and not Trackers is the argument.. well.. yeah.
Still, it may be technically viable, but its not as un-stepped on as it was made out to be. I just think the rogue-aspect was played up a bit too much by the Admin for the Tracking skill if it strips all the meaning from the name of the skill.

Why is the skillset called Arts when it doesn't give you the ability to sing or dance or write music?
Oh, right. It lets you do one aspect of it. Gotcha.
(And I think the skillset was poorely named!)

All that was said was that the skillset would suffer the same serious penalties Moon/Night/Crow/Stag/Celestialism/Nihilism/Necromancy/Sacraments do when you quit your city, and have no nexus connection.
Meaning fighting as a rogue warrior with Tracking as a skillset means very little of your offense is lost. OMG WTF BBQ I LOST MY ANIMAL OMG LYSOL. It's relatively stupid and hardly used for anything more than novelty and quest cheating anyway.
Alger2005-09-11 12:16:14
yes it has one aspect of it but would you say that the focus of arts isnt arts like you say that tracking isnt the focus of tracking?
and yes your statements really show what you know about how a tracker would use their companions...

Thorgal2005-09-11 12:20:55
Well, could always envoy to have the skillset renamed to Trapping, then you'd be a trapper whether you're rogue or not.
Alger2005-09-11 12:34:26
you could then the whole point of those trill teaching us how to track those tigers just get ignored aye
Anyway my point here isnt that it should be viable for trackers to be rogue, but more of if you're going to debunk someones claim dont go give silly arguments like saying the basis of the tracking skillset isnt tracking. Dont even try to say that its not important to the skillset, since its the major appeal of it. Its on the same level of not being able to lich as a necromancer as far as appeal goes. (ie you learn tracking because you want to be able to track, you indulge yourself in the necromantic arts because you want to become undead.) Also I dont think any tracker here who knows what they're doing will say that the companion is not a big part of the skillset's strength. As far as number of skills that cease to function go you lose 5 which is pretty much on par with the number of skills you lose with the counterpart skillsets.

Well, when I try to imagine being a tracker, I do see your point. If trackers are like mercenaries, it'd be the tracking ability that'd be most useful to sell.
Like, quickly bring an army into a city or village, to hunt someone down effectively, retrieve items from enemy territory, listen in on conversations, I'd actually pay a tracker for those services, but rogue trackers only have traps, which is offense-only, and you don't need to hire a tracker for offense.
Idea: Rogue trackers get to use tigers instead of wolves or hounds.

oops, nevermind, i thought that serenwilde had timberwolfs and magnagora had great danes.
Thorgal2005-09-11 13:30:31
Another problem with traps seems to be, that they are immensely expensive, it can easily get up to 25K gold for just one fight .
