Anyone want to say what the new skills do for pureblades im interested in what they do?
Shryke2005-09-23 01:16:16
assault is similar to lunge it appears

Just tried Assault...

declare tsai
You declare your intent to bear arms against Tsai.
3485h, 2480m, 2120e, 10p ex-
assault tsai head
Holding a dragon-hilted claymore poised at an angle overhead, you unleash a
violent assault at Tsai's head. You strike through his neck like it's butter,
and his head goes flying through the air.
Tsai's severed head lands on the ground with a thud and rolls around like a
top.
You have slain Tsai.
Tsai drops the corpse of a monstrous gravedigger.
Tsai drops the corpse of a monstrous gravedigger.
Tsai drops the corpse of a monstrous gravedigger.
Tsai drops the corpse of a wild yellow dog.

omg
Your eyes widen in disbelief as you shout, "Oh my GOD!"

Then I repeatedly tried it on Shiro but it would never instantly kill him dunno.gif

Edit: Oh and both had greathelms

Behead is the main reason why I thought giving Pureblade and Axelord an unblockable swing was a bad idea. doh.gif

Thorgal:

Holding Behemoth, a stygian Dreadblade of Iniquity poised at an angle overhead,
you unleash a violent assault at Alger's head. You strike his cheek for a small
flesh wound.
Your blow was of puissant strength!

1105 wounds. Hardly something to worry about.
Thorgal2005-09-23 06:32:22
To alger's head, puissance + assault did a little more wounds than one application of health heals. It seems to increase wounds with the same amount as lunge does, works fine.

And as to heftysword, I did count in partial parries, so I ended up with a 10% chance instead of the actual 25% chance, but that doesn't really change anything about its usefulness.. since partial parries exist and aren't ignorable, the chance you'll pull off heftysword in the end is still far lower than 25%.

If you compare the amount of times riposte and coule happen.. to heftysword.. blink.gif
Singollo2005-09-23 15:26:25
Or even the actuall effectiveness of each. Pureblade just stinks in that department. We'll see what happens though.
Daevos2005-09-23 22:24:58
I'm kind of reluctant to complain about anything related to two handers right now, since I'm extremely happy with most of the changes. But I agree that Hefty sword and Hefty axe could use some tweaks since they are subpar to Coule/Riposte right now. Here is a small list of suggested changes to balance the skills:

1. Create two separate rates of occurrence for the skills, one for activating against pure defense(ie weapon and shield parry), and the other for activating against counters(ie coule and riposte).
2. Lower the chance of the skills activating against pure defense to 10%
3. Increase the chance of the skills activating against counters to 50%
4. Slightly increase the balance lost time.

Personally, I think that it would make both skills more defensive than offensive. And create a interesting dynamic between the one handed skills and the two handed skills. With the one handers having offensive defense skills(coule and riposte), and the two handers having defensive offense skills(heftysword and heftyaxe).

Also it makes sense that it would be harder to counter effectively and accurately after parrying a powerful attack than it would be to just parry it without harm.

Wouldn't this make it more offensive? You find out where they're parrying, and start hitting there to knock their arms off-balance on purpose? And it would also let you basically ignore parrying, wouldn't it? Coule just hits your arms, not all that crippling.

I guess I don't know exactly how it works- if you use it, your weapon gets halved in damage/precision? How quickly can you switch it back and forth?

blink.gif Explain?

Also, you should try testing it first so you know what it's about, get an axelord or a pureblade to hit your parry.. doesn't seem like you get the point of hefty at all.

If you, as a pureblade, hit someone's full parry, you have 25% chance to knock their parrying arm off balance for a second, but your blow is still parried.

Nah, I was asking a question. I had it explained to me as a result of asking, so it worked, hm?

I was under the impression that this allowed you to knock off their arm balance, and this would prevent them from being able to parry. Apparently this is incorrect. My question was based on trying to figure out whether that was factual or not.
Thorgal2005-09-24 08:01:05
Ah, okay.

I believe transmigration may have been somewhat my fault, in the original design spec it was far too weak and would have only served to get druids doublekilled, and I brought that up to Estarra. I think we may have overcompensated...

I think we may assume they aren't planning on balancing transmigration then.

On the other hand, necromancers need not to worry about a single argument against lichdom anymore!
