Eh? I can understand them taking points if you use a lot of french, but if you're only using that which is also used in Delport there's no way they can hurt you for it because they are established IC words.

Aye, I'd agree with that. Using the same words as in Delport would be fine. Using additional french would not.

I don't agree because you can deliver the same expression with any word given you provide two points of reference when you are communicating. What you do with your body speaks more than speaking itself.
I have heard them also say things things that I do not even know. But they word it so you can figure out what they are trying to communicate. That is the difference between a language and a dialect.
Example:
You hand so-and-so a corpse of a chicken. Oh how I love coq au vin, merci monsieur!
So-and-so thanks you appreciatively.
So-and-so were singing songs d'amour by the beach last night cherie!
A celest archon guard says, "Salut, Qaletaqa."
Malicia2005-09-13 03:30:41
Ahee!
Jairdan2005-09-13 03:31:44
Even some of the Celest guards speak french
Salut!
Salut!
Unknown2005-09-13 03:31:55
I would say any french terms (beyond the very basic - yes, no, hello, goodbye) shouldn't be used unless they are in Delport already.
The 'dialect' based differences are already given by the words they use. It wouldn't seem anything more than mildly annoying to me personally, but if you were docked rolepoints for it, maybe you're being encouraged to remain within the bounds established by Delport as is.

It's cute.
Sylphas2005-09-13 03:33:35
As long as he follows the same guidelines seemingly in use in Delport, he should be able to use any word he wants. Delport isn't everyone who speaks that dialect, to restrict it like that is stupid. Now if he started using Russian or something, that would be improper, or so much French that you didn't still know what he meant.
Jairdan2005-09-13 03:33:38
And Elryn.. tell me.. when have you EVER heard a fae say "Fai" "Dor" or "Glom" except in the histories? Hmm?
Or what about the Fae language that Moondancers use that they completely made up? I want to see them all docked rolepoints for using madeup BS.
Edit: Oh! Or the made-up Aslaran language! Get those buggers too.

I don't understand your point.
I'm not saying it's such a terrible thing. I don't really care as I've never interacted with Qalatega yet. If it's mild, within the bounds of Delport's colouring of language, it's probably not hurting anyone.

You reach out and touch a blackened circle.
A deep voice sings in your mind, "Shazbat Gloriana! F'ai Glomdoring!"
You shudder as a powerful presence vibrates through your soul.
Edit: It's part of the Song of Returning, Jairdan.

I'm so glad I found that circle. I love 'shazbat', it's hilarious!
Xenthos2005-09-13 03:44:05
I still need to get the song translated... I tried asking Damian, but it didn't work

There's more? Wow, all in Fae?

Yep, there are four lines to it. And yes, all in Fae- that's why I'm sad NOBODY saved the translations. UGH!
Dritex2005-09-13 04:06:34
honestly, I'd say it's a little dumb to do it now, seeing as how this has been going on since the begining of the game. Qaletaqa already got in trouble with that one full french post, when it was established that they didn't speak french, just had those words. I'm sure he's always kept that in the back of his head, and done nothing but further refined the way he speaks since then. So why dock him now?
Kaileigh2005-09-13 04:08:49
What about that novice that said something in Italian on all the channels...
I'll admit some of the things Qaletaqa say aren't very good french but the Archon's say "Salut" I don't see what the big problem is.

For instance. Saturday I had a little trouble with taking Pilgrims to Avechna's peak. They changed the code so I had to say the word Avechna.Â
185002
They changed the code? Hmm.. Guess I never noticed, cause I've been doing "I'll lead you to Avechna's Peak." since Closed Beta. When I saw people just say "Lead peak," it made me want to tear my hair out
