I am still baffled by this as I am starting to begin my coming through the Portal of Fate within my background. Because its odd going through the portal of fate and just thinking hey I was from delport. Could it be possible to have already lived in Delport and not travelled through the portal or is that not possible.

My questions are as follows:

1. Do we all have to have come out of the Portal of Fate?
2. Why did we go into the Portal of Fate
3. Are those that journeyed into the Portal of Fate stronger than those that do not? (NPCS)
4. Did everyone even NPC'S go through the Portal of Fate or were they already here?


Maybe I missed something but I am trying to figure it out if you guys know anything thanks!

We do assume everyone came through the Portal of Fate. Those who do are marked by the Fates and thus on a path of destiny. Only the cream of the crop can step through and survive. NPC's may or may not have gone through.

Anyway, there's absolutely no reason why you should feel compelled to ever mention the Portal of Fate. Why not just RP that you've always lived in Delport and refuse to discuss whether or not you've been through the Portal of Fate.

Except every mortal adventurer in the lands have stepped through the portal of fate which is where their memory starts off, many regain their memory over time... Its generally believed that the path through the portal of fate is so traumatic that few people can immediately remember their lives previous to their stepping through the portal... Maybe its just one of several possible outlooks

Who's to say that the portal of fate really takes you from one place to another? It could just be a sort of awakening, where you are made aware of the Weave and how you can and will effect it. A side-effect of being awoken is just that you lose your memory.

I am pretty sure it never really specifies where you were before the portal. And, if it does, I don't see why we can't inerpret that in a metaphysical rather than absolute and finite way.

Here's the way I've always seen it, though this is by no means the only way of seeing it:

The Fates erected their Portal as a means of allowing one to better grasp their Fate, a way for them to embrace their inner potential and become something more, the first step of Ascension. Passing through the Portal unlocks that potential within us, allowing us to call upon the Great Spirits, allowing us to link closely with the Cosmic beings, and so forth. The people who haven't stepped through the Portal are the villagers, the kinswomen of New Celest, the faelings and elfen that live in the Serenwilde Commune Proper, that Igasho that runs the Serenwilde elevator, and so forth - the denizens of the world. That is the diffence between denizens and adventurers - the latter has entered the Portal, the former hasn't.

I see no reason why you can't be someone from Delport who entered the Portal of Fate. I've always held IC that Shorlen came from New Celest before running away from home and stepping through the Portal - using it to escape his home and family, to find his Fate elsewhere.

My characters don't remember much of anything from before the PoF.

Angelique doesn't know anything, but since she's going to be adding to the family people who woulda been born before she left it, obviously she's remembering a bit.
