I remember when we were all so low level and knew so little of afflictions that it was faster to die, come back and rebash the lost xp than to guess what I had to eat/rub/drink/smoke.
And also cheaper, as finding an herbalist was crazy.
I also remember talking with anything that moved in celest because everywhere seemed to be quests-NPCs.
And getting appointed Aqua's GA and thinking OMG I am GA before leaving newton!

I remember healing Moralis' broken legs several times per RL day as he was ALWAYS falling out of the trees.

I remember being offered a 500gp credit by Mistie and not being able to afford it.
I remember all the elemental planes stuff, and just being totally wasted by Visaeris all the time. And the -1000 power, that was annoying. And Shiri and Dumihru being ace and taking us everywhere.
I remember coming out of the portal and being greeted by Achacius, who went on to be the absent GM I think. So the Aquamancers just did nowt for ages, despite having a GA.
I remember how uber blast was! Everyone was like 'Woah'. And then someone got the first staff and everyone wanted to play with it.
I remember not knowing anything at all so when Erion died instead of immolating him I put his corpse in the Pool and he went MAD and started swearing and stuff. And I was like 'Noooo I'm so sorry!'. God that was traumatic.
Oh, and I remember when Daevos first starting wasting Celest and everyone was like 'Who the **** is this Daevos guy?" and everyone else was like 'We don't know but he's a goddamn tanky mother******'
OH and who could forget us all being owned by ectoplasm and scabies cause noone could cure it.

I remember bashing rats with Shiri as an Aquamancer.
I remember being yelled at over CT because I was a Viscanti Aquamancer.

I remember when Val could stop the entire Celestian mob of web flingers with his gem, and we thought that jewelry was horribly overpowered because of it.
I remember when, during all of the knight changes, cosmicfire was seen as the greatest attack ever. Not many people had staff just then, and knights honestly were underpowered.
I remember when demesnes were so weak that the entire playerbase cried for an upgrade...and an upgrade they got.
I remember Revan's demesne being the bane of our existence after that. He would push it all the way up to Celest's gates, and we very rarely had someone with enough skill and health to attempt to remove it. It killed us constantly. For the bigger people, he just demesne summoned into that statue he built.
I remember spamming BW just outside of the city and summoning and killing idle Magnagorans out of their city in retribution. I also remembered being offended because I killed almost twenty of them, then five or six more in the city proper (which didn't work so well, because Visaeris promptly handed my arse to me), but never being enemied. I later was enemied for something I didn't even do (can't remember what at the moment).
I remember when Serenwilde was widely regarded as a lost cause that would always and forever be dependent on Celest.
I remember TELEPORT NEXUS and debating were added almost instantly in response to requests on the forum, and loving our admins ever since.
I remember way back when no one knew how astral respawns worked. Of course, no one was a high enough level to bash them anyways. Celest had honed the art of running from lobstrosities so well that the methods were published in GHELP scrolls and the newsboard. I think Val has a quote from me on the early part of the quotes thread about it. I kinda miss him. He was fun to lose to.

I remmeber trying to do something for the guild as GA and being faced by absolute lack of participation or told that it was the GM who ruled the guild and decided on things, and the GA was quite like a giant Head of Novices.
Thanks gods the GAs finally found their place and sent the GM to work on city politics.
I remember nobody contesting that inactive GM until the situation was unbearable. But lots of people saying somebody should contest. Must be that people were already wary of the problems of politics.

Oh yeah I remember that, we'd all transverse to Celestia and immediately get transfixed and killed.

A topic worthy of my comment!
I remember:
-thinking "OMG how strong blast is!". It was able to kill a fink in ONE HIT.
-killing Nikua in a FFA. He was a champion back there, I felt SO strong
-getting the last influence-hit on a farmer, making Delport pledge to New Celest. Yeah
-being killed over and over each time I left Celest - heck, each time I left the Pool actually. The city was being raided non-stop.
-joking about furrikins, knowing Shiri was around
C:Furrikins are practically animals, and we all know what animals think about all the time.
S:No!
C:Food.
S:No, not that either! >_<
Ah yeah, and the hunting trips on Water, to desperately get some essence to power up the Pool. Only one or two hunters survived after each trip, some of 'em didn't even have the planar skill to survive there.
EDIT: One more thing - getting a statue of myself, just up from the Pool. I still had gray trousers and a shirt back then, just like almost everyone - we looked like prisoners in a hardcore jail from the start of 20th century. And the statue is still there!

- Fighting Visaeris in an FFA with NO curing (rigormortis completely shut me down) and still having him run from my moonbursts until he managed to Soulless me. I was proud for a while, back when people still thought he was a decent fighter.
- Getting a guild advance for getting Pilgrim. It took me walking like 5 rooms down the road.
- Using bedevil to get rid of shivering, because I couldn't afford a fire vial.
- Barely missing the mass CR raise so we could influence.

I'm still relatively new and all, but the thing that sticks out for me right now is when I was doing the supplicant quest for New Celest.
I had just swam to the Isle of Light and I started digging for the gold sand. I unearthed some and picked it up...
And a gorgog came and snatched it out of my hands and disappeared!!!
I was so freakin' mad. I thought it was another player at first, and then I told GNT and someone was like "Just be glad the sand is all they came for."

My times we didn't even know what a Gorgog is. And to reach the island with the golden sands, we had to swim upwards. Both ways! *shakes fist Abeytu-style*

I remember when Val was the gem nazi who told the rest of the jewelers he sold his crowns for 75k when most likely he sold for much less, and only told us that so we wouldn't make sales.
Heh I remember that. I also remember saying no to fixing cartel jewelry prices at astronomical levels... over and over and over and over... and just wishing he'd leave me alone about it. I remember dying... a lot... and I don't remember why I got enemied to Magnagora in the first place.
I remember cheering when we finally got the Pool of Stars up to 0 from negative power.
Did I mention the dying? Good times.
Edit: I also remember, with things fluctuating so much, coming back after a long absence to see half of those on my allies list were now Celest enemies, and half of those on my enemies list were now citizens.
Richter2005-09-14 21:07:09
Almost a year later, I get it explained why Celest was at -1000 power. We thought that was hilarious, didn't know how you could just start the game, and a city was at -1000.

though it wasn't in the begining, it was long enough ago.
The Aquamancers guild wanted to leave Celest, and I took the center part of getting them into actually going ahead to do it. We even had Lacostian ready to help us do so, until he found out that the outcome of what we wanted wouldn't be a feesably good thing, and effectively stopped us from leavig. And then me getting kicked from the city for making a huge three part post to take all the blame myself, and keep other's from getting in trouble for it.

Haha, yeah, that was kinda fun. It was amazing what being so uppity did for our score on topguilds, because everyone was interested in what was going to happen. Leaving the city would have been stupid though And taking the blame for yourself was kinda silly of you, because they weren't going to boot everyone suspected to be involved, because that would have hurt Celest nearly as much as if the guild left
