I just cant see how...

as far as I can tell this thing is designed for a string of eye toy like games, but is supoosedly usable in all areas including FPS (possiblly) well anyway I'll hold off on judgement till I see more.

thoughts, opinions?

http://cube.ign.com/articles/651/651224p1.html -- Way better article.
This truly is a revolutionary concept, and I can clearly say now I will be getting a revolution. This idea makes games so much more interactive, and gives it such a life like feel. Imagine playing a shooter where you control your vision and aim through moving a control around instead of a sloppy analog? Or a hockey game where your actual shot strengths and passes are done by a flick of your wrist rather then holding a button? I am absolutely ecstatic abut this idea and really can't wait to see or try a game with it. The possiblitys of the interactiveness are unlimited and it gives games an amazing spin on things. Picture a gladiator game where you control every aspect of your swing based on hand movements with the controller, and still simple buttons switch around functions and things to that sort. I want to see some videos of this stuff, because in concept it is amazing.

Looks too hard for me to use, honestly. Maybe I'd get used to it, but I dunno.

I should probably mention although I haven't confirmed it that you supposedly can use the gamecube controllers instead of these.

I personally think that any long gaming experience with this will just tire the crap out of your limbs.
Torak2005-09-16 10:14:23
Nintendo has a simple learning curve, I think it would be fairly easy. Games could be based on your reactions and hand-eye rather than your analog stick.
Eyod2005-09-16 10:15:36
well there aiming this at the 'soft gamers' meaning people who just play every now and then, this included your elderly and very young.

Ah, I like that better. I've never been a fan of the "simpler is better" thing. While I never go into the most complex part of every game, I like 1) Having options and 2) Being able to dabble in those options. This kind of controller and the design it indicates hinders that sort of thing because it makes accessing those options unnecessarily complicated.

I guess designers can think of ways around that though.
Eyod2005-09-16 10:19:48
Just remember that IGN's article is hypothetical in nature, although I'd say there probably on the mark.
Shiri2005-09-16 10:24:42
It looked like it to me. I wouldn't have been getting a Revolution anyway - PS3 would have been my choice if I was getting any of the next gen consoles, but my brother is a proper nintendo fanboy and will likely be getting one fairly soon after it comes out, so I might have experimented with it a bit. I can only think that designing games to fit this and are still good and have any kind of depth to them (which probably isn't what they're aiming for, to be fair) is going to be difficult.

EDIT: I've never felt that console shooters are any good. IMO they work best on a mouse-driven system.
Eyod2005-09-16 10:30:41
meh, I suck at the mouse shooters but can hold my own on a console.
It will be an interesting learning curve for developers, with the DS there was a lot of waffling before they got into the groove and started utilizing the thing. But I believe that in this case many developers were shown the new control many months ago. hrm Peter Molyneux (I can't remember his name, the guy behind Black & White and Fable) saw it and was impressed and I'd have to say for his games it would work excellently.

Edit: Faster then moderating fox!
Shiri2005-09-16 10:34:05
Molyneux, I think. Hmm...I don't know how well that would work on a console either, but eh. I never played Fable, only B&W (which was overhyped, IMO.)

I'll stick to my System Shock and so on then, you have your console shooters and we'll leave each other alone. ninja.gif

deal. Although In truth the only two games I really want to keep an eye on are the new Zelda and my favorite Smash bros.

Sums Nintendo up nowadays really. Still the most innovative but it ain't gonna sell to the masses.
Richter2005-09-16 18:04:47
Hey, look, Nintendo invented the first game with a vibrator.

I was checking that out while reading ctrl alt del today, looks like a bad kind of controller, I suppose we'll see though.

You people are too stuck on appearence. Sure Xbox controllers look great with a few flashy buttons and awkward hand positions, but they won't flow half as good as this is designed too. This controller is breaking the areas that Xbox and PS3 are limited in as far as innovation and controls go. This has mass potential, I guess I can't comment completely until I see a game, but Xbox360 and Ps3 are just going to be xbox and ps2 with new graphics..yay?

From what it sounds like, a lot of these games require up/down and side to side movement of the controller. Personally, I like sitting down and resting the controller on my lap or something. If it were like DDR or the EyeToy, and used only as a neat little gimmick, that's fine. Since it will be used for many many games, apparently, I'm a bit concerned about it.

That said, the best controller ever invented was Logitech's second wireless version of the PS2 Dualshock2.

At first I was like "WTF," but then I took the time to read through the article (While looking at other Tokyo Game Show releases) and I found it was quite innovative. Will people use it? Sure, but Nintendo needs to grab all sorts of audiences with its new system (Which I think it will with it's insane library of games. Duuuuude, Shaq-Fu!) if they want to stay up there with the other two systems.

Personally I think Nintendo's Revolution is going to be a hit. In an age where systems are going to run for $400 or more dollars they're going to reach us penny pinchers and the average gamer will end up buying one for Mario/Zelda/Randon Good Looking Game if the ticket price isn't too large. I know I'll be buying one for the back library of games alone.

This might also get a lot of companies thinking about recreating some games based on the amount of players playing the old ones. I'd love to see an english Star Ocean on DS or something. ninja.gif

Peter Molyneux also likes P5 virtual control gloves. Which suck.

Smart people aren't always right.

Ps3 is going to own xbox360 and the nintedo revolution

^^^^^ The masses.
