I've seen novices spending a lot of time in the portals room until they agree to change their names. But I am sure there's no way guides can deal with the invasion of novices you must be suffering now... Some people just ignore the RP part (or choose names that would be apropiated for a wild tribe lost in the jungle... if they spoke english). They usually don't come back enough to be really annoying.

Besides vulgar names, the guides cannot really force changes. They can highly recomend changes, but it's up to the players to really inforce them. I personnally see nothing wrong with outguilding and refusing to deal with people that have poor names. Infact, I won't deal with someone that has a terrible name, besides to tell them they need to change thier name.

Woohoo, approval to outguild!

It's been done, now, though I might have to remove a few more when I get GM as I'm not sure I got them all dry.gif

A few of my peeves are Polgara, Elros, Solvanis Krynn, and Jiriki all lifted from the pages of popular fantasy novels.
Stangmar2005-09-16 14:10:10
Heh, and Silvanus is in the bible.
Shiri2005-09-16 14:30:54
And Marcalo. dry.gif (Where is Jiriki from? I've never heard that.)
Unknown2005-09-16 15:01:46
Jiriki is from Tad Williams, Memory Sorrow and Thorn series.

Someone--may have been Yrael--asked me if I named Tully after some fantasy character, but I forgot what book he said.

Just make sure you contact a guide if there's one on when you see a bad name, helps them catch all of them.

Tully was a 'pet' name for a Damane (captive Aes Sedai --> as in slave female mage) in Wheel of Time
Unknown2005-09-16 15:14:02
Tully is the name of a family from... Song of Fire and Ice? Think so...
Shamarah2005-09-16 19:14:37
Revan is stolen from KOTOR ohmy.gif

And yeah, House Tully is the house Catelyn and Edmure are from.
Richter2005-09-16 20:08:31
Tully's is a kind of coffee out here. Outguild him!

And when I joined Aetolia, I didn't realize the whole "real fantasy name" thing. I tried to be Lex Pyronis, which didn't work out too well.
Tenebrae2005-09-16 20:21:49
we could have people have an extremely low roleplaying thing, then work up... maybe that would force people to change their names to be more acceptable..

Goyel is too much like Goyle, from Harry Potter. tongue.gif

(and yes, I've heard guide justifications similar to that)
