What are the quality games from the good ol' days that you remember? Continues from a discussion on the Revolution thread.
I feel that you can't get the same sense of fun from the games of today that you could then, and urge you all to save yourself a lot of money on the new consoles and dig out a vintage one. Couldn't beat a SNES with Super Mario and Donkey Kong.

FIRST POST CHRONO TRIGGER AND FINAL FANTASY SERIES
Hmm...Clock Tower was awesome, though it's probably topped by the more recent Silent Hill series IMO. Harvest Moon on SNES too. That funny thing with the jetpack oppossum, I forget his name now. Sparkster? :/ Good times.
Really...I don't think the classics are necessarily better than modern games. I got a LOT of enjoyment out of DMC1/3 (not 2) and a lot of immersion from SS2 and so forth. Of course nothing tops CT but most of the real classics aren't any better off for their simplicity than the tops of '03-'05.
Maybe it's just because I only really started gaming about a year after FF7's release though.
EDIT: Also, Master of Magic and Master of Orion 1-2, if anyone played those.

Bonanza Brothers and Alexx the Kidd and Super Tennis on the Sega Master System.
Wonder Boy and Sonic the Hedgehog (THE ORIGINAL) on the Sega Mega Drive. Damn that Mega Drive was just so sexy and cool when it came out.

I think alot of times it was easier to have fun playing a simplistic game such as Mario, or something to that sort. But once you learn the ins and outs of a more modern in depth game , IE Starcraft (Or dawn of War just because Amaru will cry if I don't mention it!! ) you cna have alot more fun.

A game I loved playing was Secret of Mana for the snes. Lots of days spent happily swinging a sword and getting lost in that four seasons place. I also enjoyed all the old mario games and countless others.

Diablo 1, and the origonal Age of Empires, I loved those games, played them all the time. heh I look at them now and just cry, I can't stand how utterly slow everything is, they were ment for computers a decade ago.
Age of Empires was cool, cause you started in the Stone Age, and if you ran into a heard of Elephants and tryed to kill it for food and didn't have like 20 villagers trying to kill it, then it killed your villagers, and you were dead

Theme Park is the best game ever. I have the original computer version around somewhere, but because my computer is SOOOOO much faster than the general ones were back when it came out, it starts on normal speed and goes so quickly the game's over in two minutes without me doing anything
You gotta be damn quick to change that so you can play it.
Shiri2005-09-20 07:26:53
Theme Hospital rocks.
Dungeon Keeper I only ever played 2. Still waiting on 3.

Tetris anyone?
The orginal one. With the four-block shapes. None of this five-block nonsense.

I remember playing Tetris attack with eight other people while raving drunk. That was some fun stuff.
I liked Secret of Evermore, Earthbound. And the original Kirby for the Gameboy, that was my favorite game for years.

OMG, the original Tetris on the Game Boy (the big chunky one).
That game blew my mind, my whole family (my mum, brother and I, my sister was too little) used to play it NONSTOP.

Bau2005-09-20 15:17:38
