Like village influencing! Perhaps they shouldn't be - rogues should be allowed to influence a village for anarchy. Instead of getting influence skills with CR, they get skills based on how many organizations they are enemied to. Guilds are worth one 'point,' cities are worth two 'points.' 6 points for the first skill, 12 points for the second, and 18 for the third. If they succeed in swaying a village, the villagers attack everyone they see, and sack Trader Bob's store for supplies once per Weave.

Best idea I've heard in a long time, Shorlen.
Oh, libraries are great. Now Jitwix can actually have useful contributions to society

I'm such a librarian ...
My immediate concern from that is the controlled vocabulary of subject headings! Different world, so using LCSH or Dewey wouldn't work, so librarians are going to be able to create a basic classification scheme.
Or ... they won't?!
Yeah, I was tempted to take Advanced Cataloging. I think I'm crazy ...

I think the Wilde will be the dominant culture in the Basin. We hold places 1, 2, and 4 in topguilds. Sorry, there's just no contest.

For cultural activity, it is true that Serenwilde has an advantage. However, cultural activity is only a part of the cultural score. Once the system gets going, I guestimate the scores will be in the 2-3k range, though it may be a few game years before the impact of libraries upon culture will be seen. In the meantime, that's all the more reason to improve membership scores and make sure guilds are novice friendly!

Heh, only if Nejii would appoint me and Sylphas or Terenas confirm that could I be our librarian
Hmm, and Kalo thinks I don't/can't multitask?
Seriously, though, I'd be happy if I could just be an aide, and work on establishing a controlled vocabulary classification scheme for subject headings. Such a good little library slave I am
I know I'm crazy. I'm taking Indexing & Abstracting this semester.
Edit: Oo! Nyla's a librarian type too!
Edit2: And I just realized that none of you know the MLSer (Master's of Library Science ... our term for those of us within the program currently) joke of "library slave" ... oops?

You're not the only applicant - send an application to Nejii if you want it, otherwise someone else will get it, and you can be her aide. Not that that's a bad thing

Silly question, but is it only limited to books? Can scrolls be archived as well?

Yes, can other text 'documents' be archivable as well please (if not already)? Or perhaps a new bookbinding skill that creates thin books (paper novels?), 15-20 pages maybe, so it'll be cheaper and won't be wasting too many pages (and while on this topic, pamphlets that are extended to 4 pages ). Of course, you (the Admin) are probably already busy and you should really take a break now, but maybe in the future!
Nokraenom2005-09-19 23:05:52
"Books" that can be archived are any objects created by a Bookbinder to write upon, ranging from scrolls to tomes. So scrolls and such can already be archived into a library.
Unknown2005-09-20 00:03:28
Okay, a couple of quick questions for the admins.
Question 1
Since the help files haven't been 100% updated yet, will there be an ability to read a library book as long as you don't leave the room and the book is still there. It's hinted in the help file, but I don't know if that's true based on me trying to use the commands.
I'm not sure you should have to check out everything just as long as you stay in the room--kinda like the real libraries. Just wondering about the intent of that.
Question 2
How is the submission process for library books supposed to work? Do we have to hand deliver them to the librarian, or will there be some sort of automated submission process.
Question 3
If you wanted to indicate that there was a portrait, picture, landscape, sketch, comic, or diagram on a page of a book or next to an entry, how would you go about doing that while remaining "IC", so to speak? For instance, a "monster manual" is created with artwork of all the beasts in the land, or a who's who of Lusternia, along with portraits.

No. It was considered in an early design but eventually rejected.

Not sure what you mean by submission but everything goes through the librarian. You give your writing to the librarian who decides to archive it, whether or not to publish it, and (eventually) whether to choose it for submission to a realm-wide contest.

I don't know but its a good idea! ASCII art? Little descriptions in brackets? Anyone else have suggestions.
