Back to Common Grounds.

You are surrounded by utter darkness, and can see nothing. The smell of
minerals and dirt fills your nostrils.
You see some loose soil to the north, east, southwest, and west.

Could burrow above please work underwater? At least until this elevation bug is fixed. Because right now I'm rather stuck here, with no means of communication or escape. And yes, I've bugged this... hopefully a cheery divine will be along to dig my ass out.

You should issue it, would probably get seen quicker than a bug.
Unknown2005-09-20 23:50:43
The same exact thing happened with Shiri.

Elevation has been a bit buggy for a while. I've went diggin on the Ethereal and ended up at the top of Avechna's Peak before.

Sweet teleportation bug. We could, uh... try to roleplay that.

Somehow.

Burrow above shouldn't be stopped by anything except maybe stun, asleep, or unconcious. It's too easy to get completely screwed by a random bug.

Trader Bob is actually a Dark Magician using the DNA left on all gold pieces exchanged in his store to tear rips in the Fabric of the Weave, sending confused and innocent consumers to far off locations, that just happen to be near his store.

With all you people getting stuck underground, I should cast dig everywhere I go just to see who I dig up. I might free someone from a prison! Or at least find a fun little geomancer to play with!
Unknown2005-09-21 04:12:13
Um, I'm also stuck underground. Right in the middle of a hamster hunt! HELP!

Cheating, I say! Naughty geomancers and their bizarre earth-swallowing rituals!
Shikari2005-09-21 05:19:20
Hmm.

There appears to be a bit of a misunderstanding about burrowing - not necessarily in these two cases, but perhaps a more general one.

If you burrow under a body of water, you are not likely to be able to burrow back out by going straight up. While this may not be intentional, it's how it's been across most IRE games for some time - so even if you are tempted, please, don't test it out.
Ixchilgal2005-09-21 05:21:31
Oh man, that's an awesome skill idea. You can always burrow above, Geomancers should have a skill to knock people down a few levels underground. Where's my Envoy, I've got an idea for him...

Non-lethal chasm, pulls them underground and gives you time to prepare/heal/escape while they're burrowing above *chuckles*
Shiri2005-09-21 08:57:17
You already have fleshstone!

Duly noted, can't imagine anyone ever seriously suggested you should be able to burrow in a body of water.

It's just that as long as this rather annoying non-escapable bug is around, it'd be neat to have BURROW ABOVE work in bodies of water as a temporary remedy.

I could possibly see if you were on the bottom most level of a body of water (such as in the sea of despair/inner sea) and were thus standing on solid ground that you could burrow below, but if your not how exactly do you burrow underground a level of water?

He said burrow above, not burrow below. I keep getting stuck under the Water Plane and not being able to move, without burrowing there in the first place.

I was responding to that actually, and I know it seems like a bug to me, I was just making a comment
Niara2005-09-21 12:27:40
No offence, but who cares how burrow works in most other IRE games? I see no reason at all why you shouldn't be able to burrow above even if a body of water is above you. I mean, it doesn't really matter if there is air or water above you. Of course, if you cannot breathe under water then you will have a slight problem soon, but no matter what, you should be able to burrow above.
Unknown2005-09-21 12:36:42
It might have something to do with how water works in coding, if you are able to burrow out of it, there has to be a room below the water to be burrowed out of maybe? maybe coding it that way lets there be things like pits in the sea, and we know that that was abused. meh, maybe I'm far off, but perhaps not. All I know is there are things we don't know about, other factors that play into why things work the way they do.
Sylphas2005-09-21 17:33:25
If you couldn't burrow below in water, it wouldn't matter if you could burrow above. It would, however, make this bug much less annoying. Save being asleep/unconscious/stunned, you should be able to burrow above, assumed you are burrowed.
