Oh my God I've loved this show for ages but I saw an episode last night and it's just doubled my love of it, and I reckon it deserves a thread put favourite quotes and episodes here
One of the best moments is when the Kool-Aid man bursts into the court! So funny I wet myself laughing at that!
Oh and I saw a clip where they're watching a blooper show, and the presenter goes 'Look what happens when (some guy) tries to say 'She sells sea shells by the sea shore'.
Girl: Oh say, what does your mother do again?
Guy: Oh, she sells sea shells by the seashore.
*Bear bursts through the window and eats the girl*
So hilariously random I swear I lost a rib laughing at it!
If anyone could link me to a place I could download that particular clip I'd be so happy
Anyway. Post

I really liked Family Guy for a while but eventually the racist jokes sorta got to me, I can't really watch it anymore. American Dad is pretty much the same way.
Manjanaia2005-09-26 21:13:54
Racist jokes always tend to wash over me because I find racism so pointless and unnecessary that as long as there's noone actually getting hurt then I just ignore it.

This is about as worthwhile as playing Marco Polo with Helen Keller.
*swims around* Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco... Marco...

"You see, ah, we're Catholic, so..."
"Ah, well then you want 'You're a naughty baby and that's nothing but concentrated evil coming out the back of you!'"
"Perfect!"
Ah I love that show, obviously.

The last few episodes have been dull, but the first ones this season were much better than the original seasons. Since I don't have cable (so no South Park), this is currently my favourite show. As for the quality of the jokes, I find that the race jokes go both ways. They've poked fun of whites and blacks. For example, I thought the scene where they play board games and one of them is based on living the life of a black American (brought in by Cleveland) was mocking the white family stereotype of being ignorant of life outside their own middle-class suburban neighbourhood. And when Stewie tried to make a race joke at a party and a black guy popped up, his reaction was mocking racists who are willing to make their jokes behind closed doors but are too cowardly to speak their mind in front of the people they look down upon. I know there were other examples, but I don't recall them at the moment.
Though maybe I'm take more notice of that sort of thing so notice it more. It seems to me that white people in America don't notice when they are being made fun of as easily as other cultures. For example, the trailer for the movie "White Chicks" had white stereotype parodies that would have had the NAACP up in arms if the racial stereotypes were reversed, but I don't really know many others besides myself who found that offensive. So open yourself up to being offended by white jokes and you will find that Family Guy is an equal opportunity offender. I don't mind those sorts of things. I'm willing to laugh at a vegetarian joke if I know the teller of the joke can laugh at me firing off a meat-eater joke right back at him, etc. Though if he can't take it then he's a hypocrit. (Same goes with anyone who can tell a joke about any other demograph but is offended when one comes back at his own demograph.)
Edit: Another example of "Family Guy" taking pot shots at the other side: Peter - "Look Lois, the two symbols of the Republican Party: an elephant, and a big fat white guy who is threatened by change."

Family Guy is okay. The Simpsons is better. Everything else is just an imitation of that. The jokes are often politically incorrect and it's okay. No one really complains about either show. I like them both. Malcolm in the Middle sort of reminds me of the Simpsons as well.
Manjanaia2005-09-27 15:35:40
The Simpsons has never made me laugh out loud, Family Guy has. South Park is better than the Simpsons, because there's about 10 series of sheer crap Simpsons episodes.
Singollo2005-09-27 15:46:36
The last 4 or 5 Simpson's seasons have been HORRIBLE. Its time to retire the family and Groening.
As for American Dad and Family Guy, American Dad gave me the hugest laugh from a TV show I've ever experienced.
Alien guy/girl hits escaping teenagers with a flying frying pan.
Alien: "Did you see where they went?"
Boy: "They're on the ground there!"
Alien: "No, the black guys who did this."
Look, it might be a stereotype, but if you don't find it funny, be your skin color black or white, just take a hike and learn to breathe.
As for Family Guy, just genius.

You're lucky I ran out!
Nyla2005-09-27 16:56:37
I saw the DVD/Movie and I have never laughed so hard in my entire life. Though it may have been because I was high, but It was still hella funny.
Racism jokes are kinda iffy.. cause it depends on how its done.

My friend only told it to me, but I imagine it was even more funny on T.V.
*Peter finds out his great great great great uncle was black and is driving down the road when he gets pulled over*
Cop: Hey, arn't you the new black guy?
Peter: umm yes
Cop on radio: I have a stolen car here
Peter: This car isn't stolen!
Cop on radio: The driver is getting beligerent
Peter: I'm not getting beligerent, all I'm saying is this car isn't stolen
Cop on radio: Officer down! Officer down!
*cop falls onto the floor and starts to squirm*
______________________________________________________________-
edit: One issue I have with the family guy is with some of the people who watch the show. Peter was saying some really bad sexist remarks, and while I as an educated viewer could see that they were showing how BAD Peter was, the young kid who was watching it also started running around saying all the bad jokes to his parents and to whomever would listen thinking it was hilarious.
For example: Why do women have breasts?: So you have something to look at when your talking to them. (this got Peter sent to a sensitivity seminar where he turned into a woman)
Edited to be more accurate

And Peter was the one who had a black ancestor.

Well, he has only his parents to blame for letting him watch the show .
Corr2005-09-28 02:24:22
Yeah, damn those parents letting 19 year olds watch whatever they want
