Thorgal is correct.
If the breaking legs wasn't in there, and the short stun, falling into a pit would just be triggered to CLIMB UP. With those two things, there is actually a chance to hurt people in a pit or keep them in there longer.

Either these pits are a good 20ft deep, or we shouldn't be breaking legs.
Thorgal2005-09-29 18:44:54
You just don't get the point do you?
As to realism, people can break their necks, kneecaps, hips, ankles and arms from just slipping on a normal floor, let alone a damned pit.

Terenas2005-09-29 20:38:09
I agree that you should be able to hit from outside the pit to gain an advantage, but it is just plain wrong that you can be tackle/barged/gusted etc. from one pit into another. So you walk into a spike pit, falls down/stun/afflicted, then you get barged into a snake pit, then barged into another, yeah, great fun. Give us mass vial or something already, this is just plain rediculous.
Thorgal2005-09-29 20:42:09
The charging was obviously an elevation bug Terenas, and as Hajamin said that will be fixed.

Well, Hajamin did say people are supposed to be able to attack into the pit. So theoretically tackling or gusting someone into another room could fall under that. I do hope it is an elevation bug nonetheless.
Shorlen2005-09-29 22:46:36
I'll be happy if you are unmovable while in a pit, personally. I just wish pits were a bit easier to get out of - maybe I'm just too newbie to fighting, but I'm in them for about thirty seconds before I can get out. Maybe if we were told when we were interrupted from climbing up? In all the fighting spam, I couldn't tell, so I started spamming climb up, which I think kept resetting the timer, and I just never left the pit.
Meh.
Meh.
Kaileigh2005-09-29 22:58:28
Riding a horse, fallling into pit, having to dismount before I can climb out, dying because I can't do it all fast enough while being attacked.
why do I have to dismount.. shouldn't I have fallen off?

You do realise that it takes very little strain on a bone to break it, right?
You can break a leg in a damn gopher hole.
One of the girls in my Judo class, who was training for the Canadian Olympic team had her arm broken from a misplaced arm bar in a tournement last year. Needless to say she lost her sponsorship due to the break, but that is neither here nor there. The point is, you don't need a huge pit to break limbs, you need to land badly, which is what is implied when you fall out of a tree or into a pit.
I do think barging from pit to pit is stupid though. In fact I think if you barge/tackle someone into a pit to begin with, you should also fall into the pit.
Thorgal2005-09-30 06:23:10
Tackling someone does not move you into the room you tackle your target to, so I don't see why you should fall into the pit.
And yes Shorlen, you're right about being too much of a newbie to fighting, if you need 30 seconds to get out of a pit. Some practice easily changes that though.

Subj: More Envoy Updates
Yet more updates from the always wonderful envoy reports. How I love
those envoys.
Athletics:
- Regeneration can now be turned off when you have hit 0 willpower or
mana, so you won't continue to drain.
- Adrenaline and hunger are now only stopped by being paralysed.
- You can no longer tackle through walls or other obvious obstacles.
- The tackler now actually will go into the room with the person they
have tackled.

By the way, I think pits are fine the way they are. I hate falling into them, mind, but that's not a valid reason to nerf. Just fix the elevation things, and I'm sure we'll get used to them.
Thorgal2005-09-30 06:33:39
Oh yeah, tackling was changed. Still don't know why I should fall into my own pit when I know there is one.
Aside to that, Tracking is the weakest skillset a warrior can choose, why nerf it even more? If anything, it needs a whole horde of upgrades, it's just useless.

leg breaking in RL is so hard to define. I've fallen 37 feet and landed on my feet and didnt break a leg (pinched some nerves though) and i have tripped and fallen down a couple stairs and broken it. So really you dont need some massive chasm to break legs, its perfectly viable that someone could hit you in a 5 foot deep pit, which, would make sense.
However , if you want a 40 foot deep pit that we cant hit you in, explain to me how you can physically climb out in a few matters of seconds, and we'll talk

Time is different though.. one hour is one day... and thats an odd fraction of how many minutes 3 seconds is

That has nothing to do with it. Otherwise a knight should really be able to attack like 20 some times faster.
Alger2005-09-30 08:13:00
Anyway in Judo I've seen my teamates dislocate their shoulders and what not from throws and no we dont throw them 20 feet up into the air. All you have to do is fall in a bad angle or take the fall in the wrong way. I've even blacked out before just because the bastard I was sparring didnt break my fall(in the sport you're suppose to break each others fall when you throw them) and thats only what, a lot less than his height which would be 5-6 feet. It being a trap people falling badly is actually the idea.
and ummm greg an armbar is a grappling move thats not really a fall Well unless it was a flying armbar.

Gregori2005-09-30 08:17:28
Heh I know. I was illustrating the point of how easy it is to break a limb. Not saying it was a fall. As for falls. I have dislocated my shoulder, cracked ribs, all sorts of nifty injuries in Judo from bad falls.

I think I do agree completely - assuming the tackling/barging from one pit to the next is caused by elevation issues.
EDIT: And can someone remove the phantom pit at Mother? Someone teleported home from a pit and brought the pit with them! Now everyone who teleports to the Mother ends up in a pit
