So... here's an idea for a game...
Basically, it takes place on Astral, and it's a city/commune vs. city/commune game. The idea is to take control over the Astral Plane. If any city or commune controls all the spheres at once, they win. After a certain amount of time has elapsed and no one has yet been declared the winner, the group with the most spheres under their control wins. Celest starts with Cancer under its control; Magnagora starts with Capricorn under its control. The communes get whatever spheres are aligned with them (I forget which are).
To take control of a sphere, you must go to the node and CLAIM NODE. This is an aggressive action, so it doesn't work through grace and lowers shield/rebounding/prismatic/etc. It takes 15 seconds of inaction (too long? too short?) to claim the node. Once it is claimed, your group claims the whole sphere.
Now, here's the catch. Remember the Kethuru event, and how the nodes couldn't be drained below crackling, and the mobs were unusually strong? The nodes would be like this for the game. This means that they could be used as a weapon for either side, and if they were shrewd and quick enough, they could summon a wave of creatures to wipe out the defenders on a sphere. Also, during the game, connections between the spheres would open and close at incredible speeds, so each possible connection for a sphere would generally open and close within about every minute. That, or they could just all be permanently open... I'm not sure. I think it'd be more interesting with connections constantly changing and the risk of getting stranded temporarily on a sphere, though.
If you died in the event, you'd conglutinate at your prime nexus with no experience/essence lost regardless of whether or not you have the skill. Psionic burnout also incurs no experience loss.
During the event, warriors would temporarily be able to use their nexus to transverse to cosmic. Communes would get a portal at their Ethereal nexus leading to Astral (same equilibrium loss for entering as for transverse).
For the duration of the event, the following abilities would be disabled:
-Greatpentagram
-Serpent
-Barrier
-Astral exits from Limbo
-Worldburn
-Rage/Terror
Also, for those wondering, no, demesnes would not be uber-powerful for this event, as effects only work in local area now. It is possible, therefore, to approach a demesne - particularly a large demesne - from many directions, and it would be hard for the keeper to fight you, thus making it somewhat difficult to hold the lead once you have taken it.
Thoughts? Comments?

For some reason it reminded me of musical chairs when I first read it. I'll comment seriously later when I have time to think about it.

Sounds like a fun idea!

Dude, this reminds me of plots on Halo 2
It sounds like an awesome game, and I hope the Admin can find a way to implement it

Wait, wait...Halo 2 had a plot? O.o

Love the idea. Hope it can be implemented.
Problem: If a game like this is started, is Astral closed to all the people who are up there hunting, or are they just in the middle of it? Or maybe this takes place in an "alternate astral."
Anyway... I like it!

I'd think they'd be up there helping their city/commune (though I suppose I shouldn't be that naive...).
I guess it could take place in an alternate astral, but I think it'd be cooler to have it on the real one.

everybody gets conglutinate?
interesting though id like something like this

Just for the game, obviously, and just on Astral.
Shiri2005-09-30 01:24:42
Yeah, since it'd be like an out-of-arena arena game.
That would be awesome.
EDIT: Though I think controlling all 12 is asking a bit much. Maybe ask for 7 or something? That's still a clear majority. But there's no way in hell anyone's going to be able to defend 12 spheres from 3 other orgs.

I don't really like it for RP reasons, but meh, majority wins.
Expansion: Weren't the Communes against exploring so far from the Prim and Ethereal planes? Didn't we warn about the dangers? Why would we go frolick for control of it?

Because the communes aren't against it anymore. They were in the past, but the present additude is similar to the Cities: "everything seems ok, but our ansestors didn't like it so keep your eyes open".
However, because of this, the communes don't have a sphere of their own. In fact, I could've sworn their nexuses aren't even linked to Astral.
Oh yah, and the game sounds neat. Perhaps make it Order based instead.. at a time when the planets are properly aligned (or some such), with the spheres being fed to the Divine instead of the nation. The diety with the most spheres when the planets dealign (time's up) will have the power to overwhelm the other's control over the spheres, gaining a large amount of essense from them.
Of course, I say "make it Order based" when I'm not in an Order.

They are linked to Astral, actually. Serenwilde is linked to Taurus - when I astroglide it takes me up to the node there. I think Glomdoring astrologers go to Scorpio.
Cwin2005-09-30 03:51:10
Ohh, cool. Shows what I know about Astral: I've never even seen it.
Though, Glomdoring = Scorpio? I know, RL Astrology has no place here, but still.. jeesh that's an odd way of looking at that commune.

I have no idea what the connotations of RL Scorpio or Taurus are, but yes, that's the case IC. In Lusternia the signs are the Antlers and the Spider (vs. the Dolphin and the Skull for the cities, IIRC), but by the time they devised that new system the Astral Plane was already out and stuff.

Scorpio: Human explosive. They can destroy anything in their way, anyone that crosses them, or even ruin themselves. They also have a habbit of being able to go from said ruin to glory in under an hour.
Taurus: like how you would think of a bull. Slow to move, likes stable, regular things and luxuries. Slow to anger, but nasty when angry.
and that ends another session of "more Astrology than you realy wanted to know"

Plots on Halo2 was a multiplayer game. Basically you had 3 "plots" or areas that you claimed. Each plot you controlled gave you a second of time (so if you had 2 plots, your timer would go up 2 seconds per second). The other team would try and wrest control of the plot from you (usually via grenade whoring or running in, guns blazing), while you did the same to your opponent. Not quite what Shamarah was saying, but vastly similar.
Shamarah2005-10-01 16:29:00

I really think this would be a fun game.
