i'd seen seraphi's thred about some odd new guild, from a real long time ago, and there was a sidenote about night time seeing differences that noone commented on. i think this is a very good idea, and i'd like to expand on it, too.
well, it'd work like this;
at night, people would be harder to see, so if you did something like glanced to the next room, you'd not see the name of the people there, but only that there was people, and maybe a different message for each race.
lanterns could be placed in rooms, and the rooms would be light like day, or people could weild a lantern. lanters would be made by either forgers or artisians, or both(one part made by each, and then artisians stick both parts together, or something) or maybe even jewlers. they'd be lit with a normal tinderbox, and stay lit for a long time, perhaps blowing out if there was water or an earthquake in the room.
cities and communes would probably make shure to set them up in rooms so that the mates in their organization could see during the night, on poles or something. it would bring another level into raiding, it could be good to try and remove the poles and lanterns to hinder that commune or city in the night.
the not seeing wouldn't be so bad, only something like not seeing people's names but seeing all their movements and such, just not being able to tell who they are unless you looked at them or something, or they said something.
abilities that hide people would still be affective in the night since they block movements and entrances/exits from rooms.
perhaps there could be a skill in discernment that allowed you to see everything all well at night, or some races(like dwarven) could see in low light like that, and a low level skill in the skill of night that let them see in night.

it wouldn't be ment to be much of a hinderance, just so that the names of people, and maybe npcs, are written as something, like a person, or an igasho, or an aslaran stands here, instead of their name.

It would at least give a meaning to nightsight. I like it. happy.gif

The thing I would desperately love to have is changing room colour text for day/night. That is, being able to have room description text dark grey during the night, and light grey during the day (or something equivalent), so that we can sense it implicitly. I think it would be extremely helpful especially as so many abilities are time-based.

Sounds good to me.

On a sort of tangent, why is everything that is time based nighttime-only? Other than lucidians, is there anything _good_ in the daytime?

Beause day sucks. All that blinding light... dry.gif

Sun allergy needs sunlight to work.

Not much else, unless you're an enemy to a commune.

I've played on muds where the room description actually changess between day/night. So, some quest clues would only be visible in one or the other, or sometimes it would just be tiny things that would change.

Overall, it was a really nice effect.

Nice, but twice as much code as we have now, and a lot of people don't even have verbose on to notice most times, so it's mostly wasted effort, I think. The color change would be cool though.
