Okay. Maybe I'm just still a bit angry, but lemme give you guys the scenario.
I was working tonight. Just doing my thing. Serving drinks, smiling to all the cute guys, and ignoring the other guys and trolls trying to hit me up. This one guy, though. He kept being persistent. He had to be at least 50. He was balding, had this horse face look that Mr. Ed would've been proud of, and he had a huge gut. He kept ordering drinks and giving me some good tips. I just thought he was drunk. Its a bartender's trick to wait on the drunk people because they usually leave good tips. No bad karma or wrong in doing that. Its how we make our money.
Anyways, this guy kept trying to hit me up, asking me where I live, if I was single, yada yada yada. I kept asking him if he wanted something more to drink, and when another guy that I found attractive would come up and order a drink, I'd wait on them. He didn't take the hint. So we have this thing at where I work that if you're getting ticked off by someone hitting on you, you make a gesture towards the manager. I can't tell what it is since its not supposed to be known, but all bars/clubs/et cetera have it.
I make the gesture towards another guy I was working with, who happens to be my best friend and the guy I'm always going to work out with, hang out with, and whatever. So he looks at me, perks an eyebrow and I look at the old troll that's hitting on me. He looks at me again, and I mouth, "Help" to him as I turn around to pour some random guy a drink that had just stepped up to the bar. He looked at the troll and rolled his eyes and got from out behind the bar, as if he were going to cocktail the floor (which means going to carry drinks to people who aren't at the bar) and walks by the guy. The guy turns around and watches my friend move pass him and grabs him by the waist. Now, my friend is carrying 3 empty glasses that are pretty heavy and one of them drops off the tray and hits a girl in the face. I turn around and run to the girl to make sure she's all right. She was cool about it, said it was fine fine. I get her a free drink of her choice just to make sure she doesn't go blabbing about some lawsuit for "employee negligence" or whatever. So I go take the girl's drink to her and my friend is telling the troll that grabbed him to ***k off and calm it down or to leave the bar. He knocks it off for the time my friend is talking to him but as he leaves to go cocktail the floor and I'm delivering the drink to the girl, he walks up behind me, grabs me by my waist, turns me around and kisses me hard on the lips.
What did I do? I full out cold-cocked the guy three times, just letting him have it. He throws a fist back at me but misses me as I duck out of the way. I pushed him away from me and hit him again, yelling for my manager's help. My manager comes running up, grabs the guy by his shirt (did I mention saturday manager is this huge ripped lesbian that I totally worship and adore?) slams him into the wall and holds him there while she screams for me to go call the cops. So I call the cops and I had to stand outside in a tank top and my jeans and basically freeze my arse off. The cops get there in like 20 minutes, when they're not even six or seven minutes north of where I work. They ask what happened, I told them, then my friend and another bartender who saw what happened told them, and they asked the guy, who was really drunk, what happened. He said I tried to kiss him and then I hit him. I was like, "Excuse me? 1, you're what? 60 years old? Not even. 2, you have a face that not even your mother could love. 3, you grabbed me by my waist and kissed me hard. I even have a bruise on my lip from it, you a** **le. 4, Four people saw what happened. Don't even say you didn't."
He suddenly throws a punch at me and catches me on my right hip before I could move out the way. The cops cuff the dumb a** and they take him away.
My manager then yells at me, like it was my fault, that he kissed me. Like I somehow mysteriously casted some spell on the guy, colors and all, to force the guy to kiss me.
So yeah. Not in a good mood.

By the way, my question is:
Was this my fault? Or did I do what I should've and protected myself?

Sobran is just too cute to pass up
Sounds like the worse day I've heard of in awhile though.
I'm sure your manager is more upset about what happened, and not why it happened. (ie:not against you, but thinking of the safety of the club)

I would have done worse than punch him.. He wouldn't be able to reproduce after I had gotten done with him.

You told your friend, you move away from the guy to another section of the club, sounds like you did everything you could do.
Edit: hehe, go Joli!
Unknown2005-10-02 06:17:27
Yeah your manager will cool down. You probably shouldn't have started a fight with the guy, but I can't say I wouldn't have done the same thing.
Unknown2005-10-02 06:19:26
You did the right thing, but.. I'm not sure why your manager didn't act earlier when you signalled.
Sobran2005-10-02 06:27:39
I don't know why she didn't see me either. That really irks me. I even told her earlier that night, "Listen. That guy there is peeving me off." She said to ignore him and treat him like a customer.
Joli2005-10-02 06:29:05
why I should never work at a bar.. too many guys having to go to the hospital with squeaky voices.

All I've to say, is you're a better man than I. I'd have pulled a switch on him, twisted out of his grasp (being little is useful!), blown out one of his knees, jerked his arm behind his back, blade-to-throat, and offered to cut him a new smile. But, for the same reasons as Joli - it'd be best if I avoided working in a bar.
Your fault? No. I think you were totally right - as someone else (Quidgy?) said, your manager was probably peeved about it happening, not so much what you did.
Deep breaths, smile. Take a couple shots of Captain. I'd probably wash my mouth a few times, take a couple showers. Scrub really well. Go find someone you like to cuddle.
Although you're a more muscley type, so - go lift? I hear that takes agression out.

Heh, Sobran kicks some ass, he gets points from 'ol Richter.
Dunno if I would have started beating the hell outta the guy, but it sure does make for a cool story. And the guy threw a punch that hit you in the hip? He must have been drunk, even I don't hit like that (and I fight about as well irl as I do in the game...).

In fact, I'd have clocked the sucker just for hitting on me. I refuse to even contemplate a date with a guy who's older than 24 - in fact, I'm a bit wary of spending the weekend with this guy who's 22, and looks 18..

Pretty messed up all in all. Doesn't sound like you gave him any reason to think you were interested in the slightest. I don't think you did anything wrong, however for next time you need to choose better about having good tips, or having an old man make you feel awkward. At the first sign that he was making you uncomfortable you should have switched tables with a co-worker.
Indeed Ye of Little Faith, Captain and some good toothpaste will do the trick in the meantime.

hahaha! i saw the title and i saw you'd posted in it, and i thought you started the topic, so this is what i thought
"he only got married to mell today and he's already sick of her?!"
heheh.
but then i realised it was an OOC section of the forums.

What you did was fine, and from personal experience, your Manager was more upset over the situation itself than you. It works the same way here, except for the fact you are male and there are hideous double standards. If someone touches a female bartender, they are liable to be kicked out by security, pronto. And I do mean kicked out, not politely escorted.
In any case, do go take a break with a few drinks, it works wonders.

Ugh, people like this really piss me off. I agree 100% with what you did, Sobran, my last job was waitressing at a diner where I would often get crap from guys. My manager was awesome though and would always handle things, but I just couldn't help but inwardly scream, "I'm a freaking minor you perv!"
Unknown2005-10-03 13:19:29
Does anyone else find it funny that he got a woman to throw someone out of his bar?
