QUOTE(Shayle @ Oct 3 2005, 10:57 AM)
When the changes went in, Glomdoring knew right away that the conflict on Faethorn wasn't lessened, but over. It was crystal clear from the moment it happened, we wouldn't be seeing any fae at all.
Truth is, it's hard to understand what Serenwilde has to complain about with this new system. Aside from RP, which has been destroyed on BOTH sides, Serenwilde still gains the extra power, and still maintains control (even if not "official, from-the-mouth-of-Maeve" control). The one or two times we actually managed to lure a few fae over to Ethereal Glomdoring, they were quickly -killed- (!!! ) by raiding Seren (to hell with the "special" honeycakes, aye?).
Handholding? Sorry to disappoint, but Glomdoring gained....well....nothing.

power? WHAT power? we get 270 power a weave, which is CRAP, i am sorry, but it is, we used to be able to get TONS more power then that in a few real life hours with a cook around, we don't get the power, or the gold or the xp as ibby said, we die in faethorn when it raids, for no game benifit and squed RP benifit, this isn't a serenwilde/glomdoring thread, this is a faethorn is dead thread. we're fighting over nothingness, when the fighting does happen.
I thought to myself during the last raid... why am I dieing? faethorn is meaningless now, there is nothing to protect. OOC of course... my poor charactor, I can relate to some of those gloomies now, having their RP switched around with the jumping of gods.
I understand where Ibby is coming from as well, the fae used to be wonderful for lvling, it was a wonderful differant sort of 'bashing ground' (god i hate that term, but if i don't use it some people are like "huh what does he mean?") I myself got from around lvl 30-50 just on collecting fae.
Endless fighting=bad
Empty faethorn=bad(I hate telling novices "No, there are no fae in faethorn that you can collect, so don't be making honeycakes from butter unless you are hungry")
Good= ?? I dunno.. i geuss there is no magical answer to this.

I think that's the big issue here. As it is now, even with the general dislike, you have to note that it's not AS bothersome as before. I know when I saw this post I suddenly realized how long ago it was that Faethorn was ALL that the forums talked about.
Thus I don't think we can turn back: Empty Faethorn = bad but Fighting Faethorn= worse. However, I'm not sure what we can turn to.
Perhaps the best thing we can do is to just consider it a 'draw', accept what is there for now, and use this 'downtime' to develop a new system that will be more accepted.
If it's broke, fix it right. If you don't have time to fix it right, fix it till it just does the job and come back when you can.

Not sure if it was pointed out in all this whining, but most of the Changes that have happened concerning Faethorn were NOT asked for by Glomdoring and infact hurt us FAR more than Serenwilde everytime, aside from this last one apparently, which benefited no one.
Archways- Serenwilde and a few of us complained..by few I mean visaeris and for some reason the admin listened to him. Nearly all within Glomdoring asked for them to be removed immediatley
Wisp/Flow changes- Not sure who, but I'm sure both sides had complaints, but in concerns to Faethorn gave Serenwilde a HUGE advantage...and we noticed, nearly all fighting stopped until the next change...
Forest of Faethorn becomes Neutral- Finally Glomdoring's crys are heard and Faethorn is made fair... but this is around the time they mess with the quest and after near 2-3 months of being tossed back and forth with the admin's view on Faethorn... not many of us care to even attempt the quest anymore.
Literally.. it used to be all that the commune talked about was the Faethorn, defending/raiding/the quest... but now, even since I returned there, I've not heard Faethorn mentioned even one time yet.

the sylvan woods part, that I'll agree with, that was needed change that made things more fair.
The Archway's make some sence with Rage/Terror
The Wisping makes sence, as does flow.
lowering unenemy fees so you could all get unenemyed even though some didn't bother to anyway.. meh whatever, maybe it was needed
Killing off our Ladies time and time again... that is -not- something that needed to be done in order to make things more fair. Killing off our Ladies by reweavings and not by players raiding, that's just ripping away our time/work/gold that we invested into them.
The slate has been wiped clean so many times in faethorn... if I work for the next 2 months and build up ladies, who's to say they won't decide that... I dunno glomdoring was at a loss because of the current state of their political system, and needs more time to settle in, so lets wipe the ladies away again.

I don't know any Seren who wanted the Archways, Ethelon. The Archways, as I understand, were brought about because our Druids kept standing at the entrance to Ethereal Glomdoring and cudgeling across. Visaeras complained, and voila, Archways.
The rest of it I don't think can be pointed at one person in particular.
I will say that the Moondancers ideals have been a bit shaken by all the changes. Protecting the Fae was a huge part of what we believed. We still do believe that, of course, but it is much harder to demonstrate it to younger and newer members. They often argue against it, saying the Queen doesn't want it so why should we?

At this point, I think we should just scrap the whole quest, and have Maeve always neutral. For one, I think it makes more sense then her fluctuating back and forth (ideally) between two opposing viewpoints. If she's trying to balance the two, being neutral is a lot better way to do it. Then change the fae back to living in Faethorn, so we can get power and experience and gold that way. Also, gives Moondancers something to protect, etc, etc.
Unknown2005-10-04 05:56:45
I like Sylphas' idea I guess. Perma neutral Maeve, the Fae themselves can be brought under the sway of Mother Moon or Mother Night, in which case they go and live in their respective areas.
Could it bring back the conflict? Probably, but what else can we do?
Although it does scrap the whole sceptre quest, which was fun in a sadistic sorta way, but oh well.

I hate the sceptre quest because while Faethorn is neutral it nerfs one my major gold sources. I want 500 gold, not a damn sceptre chunk.

As soon as those piece of Archways were put in, we were asking for them to be removed. Very few people wanted them to remain, but as custom in Lusternia, once something is coded in, it's unlikely to be removed. Alot of Serenwilde members also though the Archways were a good idea once they were put in and loved it.
Another thing, Rowena teaches us to love the fae, not mistreat them, saying that they are not to be abused. I forgot her words exactly, but from our standpoint we are not harming the fae... our shadows bound to the fae to us is the same as you having to feed a honeycake to one to get it to go with you. Now, I will admit this was different when we had to kill them.. but that was our only option at the time. Then again, maybe it changed back considering no one friggin searches for fae anymore.
Shiri2005-10-04 15:13:08
Woah woah woah, selective memory? Serenwilde didn't really like the archways either. I think the first post made complaining about was Tuek's, actually. It seemed to us a lot like handholding Visaeris and co. because they didn't want to shield or whatever from cudgelling in.

Actually your top fighter Narsrim literally loves the Archways... even Kalodan has stated he liked them in the past. I just went through most of the pages though and it does seem I was wrong, there were others within Glomdoring who liked the Archways.
Shiri2005-10-04 15:52:03
Ah. Well, I don't like them much for what that's worth. Not worth complaining about though really. As I say, better having no conflict in Faethorn than too much. I bet there were Seren who were getting PO'd to the point of quitting over having to go defend neutral ground from Alger/Eiru/Daevos/Ixion/Whoever else wanted to turn up day in and day out, but not so many about to leave over not having any conflict at all, even if it's not the most desireable state. I enjoyed the constant conflict, but I'm one of only a few there, so eh.

1. Gold, exp, karma, and power for those who don't hunt and enjoyed Faethorn was taken away with little to no compensation.
2. The slate was wiped clean FOUR times now, FOUR. We didn't really even complain the first three times. This latest is just CRAP. Especially after 2 months of work.
3. Moondancer teaching the young about their duty to the Fae ... is harder. It is still done, we get around it, but it is much easier when they can actually interact with the fae -regularly- (not every 6 days).
This isn't about archways, wisp, flow, or any of that. I didn't care about them then, I don't now. And for me, it's not even about the damn sceptre. It's about the way the fae are now with this 6 day turnaround thing that gets us NO WHERE. In fact, it's been brought up to me that now that it's like this, the average Seren can't even contribute to the Fae because they've got to get past all the 'important' people. Unfortunately the 'important' people don't see this, they're doing what they believe is their duty, and it is. The thing is, the newer folks to the realms or those who aren't well known get completely left out of the process now. Before, everyone could contribute if they wished. 27 fae every 6 days. How many people need to even bother? No more than 5 people. I garantee it.

Well... yet another bug is that Gwyllgi still accepts only dead fae. This one's been around since Maeve's spell was cast, and still's present.

Err, okay. Stop mulching the trees in Faethorn, then. You guys do realize that hurts the fae, right? We're getting tired of this whiny moany dryad. She's gone again, but please, no encore. Stop killin' our trees.
