MUSHclient combat system sought
I am offering 20 credits to someone who can make an effective, personalized set of triggers, macros, and aliases for me. I use MUSHclient and am currently trying Ethelon’s free system. My character is a lowbie Ur’Guard with a broad palette of skills.
I will test submitted systems before awarding credits. PM me for details.

20 credits is barely payment for a personalized combat system, in my opinion. I provide some large scripts for free, but if I were going to write a combat system in MUSHclient tailored to a specific person, it would be more than 20 credits. Coding in zMUD is simpler than in MUSHclient, especially because imports are more straightforward and easier to explain to a non-experienced user.
Have you considered learning to code yourself and modifying Ethelon's system? Or even just cannibalizing the triggers and making your own from the ground up? Building your own is really the best way to learn to fight and will be much more effective than buying one.

You tell me, what is a reasonable offer?QUOTE(Zarquan @ Oct 3 2005, 12:24 PM)

That's good to know.QUOTE(Zarquan @ Oct 3 2005, 12:24 PM)

Time is valuable to me, more valuable than a few bucks, and certainly more valuable than mastering a hobby with little real life application. I'm not a college kid with nothing but time to burn on leisure. It is worth a few credits to have someone work on the tedious parts for me. That being said, it would be ridiculous for me to be completely ignorant of the process. It is really a consultation fee- I thought it was implied that I would be working with, and asking questions of whomever accepts. Goyel2005-10-03 23:54:32
No good system makers seem to sell for less than 100 CR, from what I understand.
Coding does have real life applications - look at bill gates, for example. Cant deny how he is greifing the computer industyr (to greif, you must pwn ass).

If that is so, I'd like to see some justification for the investment before I rush out and buy. QUOTE(Goyel @ Oct 3 2005, 04:54 PM)

It certainly does, if you wish to invest time and passion in to it. However, tinkering with MUD triggers so my fictional character can whack mobs is not a productive use of my time. It's the same reason I choose to buy credits- I prefer my time spent on RP and conflict, not "earning a living".Diamante2005-10-04 02:07:27

The people who sell decent systems have spent HUNDREDS upon hundreds of hours making their system work like it does. Aside from that, the game constantly changes, requiring updates. So even if you look at it in terms of a job, selling a system for 20 credits is like getting payed less than a penny an hour. Sure, it is a hobby, and they do sell it to multiple people, but the system tends to do just about everything you could need, with the exception of a little personalization, which most of the system sellers are willing to do. In regards to thorgals system for zMud, I think 100 was cheap. Ethelon's system for mushclient is pretty good too, the 100 credit one, though you can take his free one, Rip it apart and use the base code to start a new one. Thats what I did before thorgals.

Playing muds is not a productive use of your time.
Your point?

Let's get to the bottom line. I want an effective MUSHclient system, have credits to spend and am willing to negotiate price. Others have the time and skills necessary to do so, and presumably a desire for credits. It sounds like a compromise can be made, so let's stop the bickering and get down to business.

Man, 100 credits for a general (as in non-customized) system is considered rather cheap (I like to say it's a fair price).

If that's the case, again, I am willing to negotiate.198190

Make your own SIMPLE one, it will take a few hours but will help you understand the game better as well as enable you to know what everything is in your system; I for one could not understand Ethelon's free system, so I'm making a Frakenstien out of bits of his code (for ZMud, it's easier). On another note if things start to screw up you can fix it immediatly. Get really good and you sell systems like Thorgal .

He's already said he doesn't want to start from scratch. He wants to work with someone to design something to his needs. If he's willing to pay the right price, I'm sure there are people out there who could oblige.
If it has to be MUSHclient specific, I'd advise you to speak to Ethelon. He's the best coder we have for MUSH, as far as I am aware. I use his free system and while I am by no means a good fighter, it keeps me alive more often than not.

This matter has been taken care of. I'd like to thank everyone for their interest.

Did I mention that I have a free, but incomplete, Lusternia curing system for MUSHclient? If you know me, you know where to find it. If you don't, oh well. It's completely unsupported.
Good luck with your partnership.
